This study recognizes the seriousness of mental health damage in the aged these days including stress, depression, suicidal ideation and intends to verify structural relationship between mental health and those expected to affect it such as health behavior, quality of life, and subjective consciousness of health. According to the results of this study, first, as the aged's quality of life is higher, it has more effect to reduce stress, depression, or suicidal ideation. Also, quality of life enhances subjective consciousness of health and improves mental health. Based on the result of this study, in order to improve the aged's mental health, it is needed to consider the enhancement of their life quality in advance and make systematic efforts to change their health behavior.

The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of stress on the relationship between oral health behaviors and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in the elderly. We analyzed 8148 subjects aged 65 or older who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2010-2015). All individuals were asked about their socioeconomic history, general health, and oral health behaviors (the frequency of tooth brushing, regular dental check-ups, and use of interdental cleaners). In the results, HRQOL was low in the elderly from a low socioeconomic class, or with diabetes mellitus, hypertension, or poor oral health behaviors. A partial mediating effect from stress was confirmed on the relationship between oral health behaviors and HRQOL. In conclusion, HRQOL was associated with oral health behaviors, with a mediating effect from stress. Therefore, it is necessary that a convergence health promotion program should be planned with an oral health education program and a stress management program for the elderly.

Objectives : This study was to compare the level of activity participation(instrumental activities, leisure activities, and social activities of living) and quality of life for elderly people with and without stroke, and to analyze the correlation between the level of activity participation and quality of life in their scores on measures. Methods : The Korean Activity Card Sort(K-ACS) was conducted among 25 elderly people with stroke and 25 elderly people without stroke living in Busan, and their level of activity participation and quality of life were evaluated using the The Medical Outcome Study 36-item Short Form Health Survey(SF-36). Results : Elderly people with and without stroke both showed a significant difference in the retained level of activity participation, instrumental activities of daily living, leisure activities, social activities, and the SF-36 score. The scores of the elderly people with stroke for the retained level of activity participation and instrumental activities of daily living in the Korean Activity Card Sort had a significant correlation with the SF-36 score, whereas leisure activities and social activities did not show a significant correlation with the SF-36 score. Among the elderly people without stroke, there was a significant correlation between scores for the retained level of activity participation, leisure activities, and social activities of living in the Korean Activity Card Sort and the SF-36 score, but there was no significant correlation between instrumental activities of daily living and the SF-36 score. Conclusion : The level of activity participation and quality of life could be considered to correlate with one another, and an intervention to improve the activity participation of elderly people with stroke would help to enhance their quality of life.

This study attempted to identify the health-related quality of life and its related factors in urban elderly women. This study used the data of the 2011 Community Health Survey. The subjects of this study were 704 elderly women. Based on the literature review, this study examined variables with health-related quality of life and construct integrated conceptual framework of the study. For data analysis, SPSS 18.0 and LISREL 8.8. were used to calculate the percentage, mean, standard deviation, Spearman correlation, and path analysis parameter. The total mean EQ-5D index score was $0.81({\pm}0.20)$ and the major problems were pain/discomfort (62.5%) and mobility (53.9%) and normal activity (38.9%). The model showed a goodness of fit to the empirical data. Age, income, health promotion behavior, social support, physical health and mental health had significant direct effects on EQ-5D and age, income, health promotion behavior and social support had indirect effects on EQ-5D. These variables explained 28% of the variance of EQ-5D. To improve the quality of life in urban elderly women, it is essential to have a comprehensive program for elderly women.

Participants were drawn from hospital in Busan. Twenty two were selected for the experimental group while 22 were assigned to a control group. Cardiovascular risk, health behavior and quality of life were measured. Results: There was a statistically significant difference in the cardiovascular risk(U=118.5, p=.002), health behaviors(t=5.200, p=<.001) and quality of life(t=2.431, p=.001) between the experimental group and the control group. Conclusion: Education and counselling-based cardiac rehabilitation program can be not only an effective nursing intervention for old patients having coronary artery disease, but also the very basis of further research on aged people who have the same symptom.
The Purpose of this paper was to explore the effect of hearing impairment on HRQOL in Korean elders. We carry out a cross-sectional analysis using nationally representative data from the KNHANES, 2018. A total of 528 elders who had hearing impairment were included. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 25.0, χ2-test, t-test, correlation, and regression analysis to confirm the quality of life, and the influencing factors. There were significant differences in HRQOL according to gender, age, education, marital status, income, occupation, number of household members, tinnitus, number of comorbidities, smoking status, alcohol drinking status, subjective health status, regular exercise, restriction of activity, depressive mood and perceived stress. The results indicated that age, BMI and number of comorbidities had a significant negative association with HRQOL. In addition, marital status, number of comorbidities, body mass index, subjective health status, regular exercise, restriction of activity and perceived stress were predictors of life quality in elders with Hearing Impairment and the variable in the health-related quality of life was explained by 37.3%. In order to improve the HRQOL of elders with hearing impairment, multidisciplinary efforts and development of educational programs are required.
