  • The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of the Fall Prevention Education Program (FPEP) on those providing direct care in elderly care facilities regarding fall-related knowledge, fall-related burden, and caring behaviors for fall prevention. The FPEP developed in the study was implemented for 80 minutes per session and four sessions in total. Participants included a total of 47 subjects, 24 in the experimental group and 23 in the control group. The program was implemented from July 16 through August 31, 2012. Data were analyzed using ${\chi}^2$-tests, Fisher's exact probability tests, independent t-tests, and analyses of covariance using the SPSS/Win 19.0 program. According to the pre-and post-test, the experimental group participated in the program showed an increase in fall -related knowledge (t=6.71, p<.001), a decrease in fall-related burden (t=-2.31, p=.026), and an increase in caring behaviors for fall prevention (F=49.50, p<.001) as compared to the control group. The results of the study demonstrated that the FPEP developed for those providing direct care in elderly care facilities was an effective intervention for decreasing fall-related burden and increasing fall-related knowledge and caring behaviors for fall prevention.

  • This study aimed to compare job stress and job satisfaction of long-term care staffs caring for demented seniors with rating 3 and physically disabled seniors with rating 1. Survey was conducted upon 212 long-term care staffs in long-term care institutions in Ejungboo, Goyang, and Paju. There were, first of all, statistically significant differences between those groups in the level of overall stress, stress related to service subjects, and stress in service procedures. Regression analyses, secondly, showed that the relationship between job stress and job satisfaction was statistically significant only for long-term care staffs for demented seniors with rating 3. The results suggest that it is necessary to lower the level of stress especially for the staffs caring for demented seniors with rating 3. Furthermore, we need to consider the stress, that the staffs feels in the process of caring for long-term care service beneficiaries, as a important variable for intervention programs to reduce the level of stress among long-term care staffs.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop evaluation indexes for improving the quality of long-term care institutions (facility salary) evaluation in the sense that the applicability and effectiveness of previous studies related to the development of evaluation indexes for long-term care facilities for elderly are insufficient. There was this. To this end, an analytical review of the 2018 long-term care institution (accommodation benefit) evaluation index, an analysis of Japan's elderly long-term care home evaluation index, and the elderly long-term care facility workers in Korea and the special care home for the elderly in Japan FGI on evaluation indicators and evaluation system was conducted. Based on the results of the research, evaluation indicators were developed in terms of supporting users to receive high quality services. The characteristics of the elderly, that is, the characteristics of elderly diseases that are difficult to maintain and improve, the direction and transparency of institutional operation, and the need for terminal care were reflected. Forty-three evaluation indicators were presented, covering institutional operations, environment and safety, beneficiary rights protection, payroll process, and payroll results. In addition, we proposed a four-step multi-level evaluation system that can improve the efficiency of the evaluation process by improving the redundant and unnecessary evaluation process.

  • Elderly people want to live in the community even if they are in poor health. However, there is no integrated care support system suitable for the health and functional status of the elderly. So the elderly are choosing living facilities. The purpose of this study is to explore exploring whether the elderly are applying for a long-term care certification. First, mild geriatric patients were mainly using home care services such as visitation care. However, some of the milder elderly were enrolled in nursing homes. And the service that does not fit the functional status of the elderly is used. Second, it is concentrated on the use of visiting care services. Third, elderly people outside the class did not receive sufficient help for daily life, and the use of community welfare services such as the elderly welfare center was low. As a result, long-term care admitters are not able to continue to live in the community even though their health and functioning status is mild, and elderly people out of grade are unable to properly use the necessary community care services. The condition is likely to deteriorate.

The nationwide mailing survey was conducted using structured questionnaires from February 7th, 2013 to February 18th, 2013. With regard to the organizational culture, a relationship-oriented culture was predominant. The relationship-oriented culture(${\beta}=0.45,p<0.001$) and innovation-oriented culture(${\beta}=0.34,p<0.001$) had a positive influence on organizational commitment. This study has 56% of the explanatory power(F=14.83,p<0.001). The long-term care facilities with higher evaluation grades showed higher organizational commitment(F=7.18,p<0.001), which affected positively the evaluation of long-term care facilities (${\beta}=0.53,p<0.001$). On the basis of the above results, the conclusions were as follows: First, managers in the long-term care facilities should strive to build good relationships with staffs as to achieve greater organizational commitment and higher evaluation scores. Second, more researches are needed to find out how to improve the relationships among staffs.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of family relations on facility adaptation of the elderly. In January and February of 2018, a questionnaire survey was conducted on 5 ~ 6 elderly residents of each long-term care facility, and finally 353 data were used for analysis. The main results of the study were as follows: First, the adaptation level of the elderly was high. As for 'maladjustment of group behavior' and 'movement shock', the level of maladjustment is low as 2 points, and adaptation dimension such as 'accept of new residence' and 'making friend' is above the middle level. Second, the influence of family variables was more influential than the demographic characteristics of the elderly and the influence of the facility-related variables. Among them, the closeness with family is the most influential. Therefore, it is suggested that the elderly need active support and efforts to maintain the intimacy with the family from the entrance to the facility and the time after the entrance.

For this research, primary caregivers that provide care the elderly requiring long term care services sanctioned by National Health Insurance Corporation were drawn and surveyed. Among collected data, data for 258 primary caregivers by type of long term care services were used for this study. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, on average, the elders that utilize care service in institutions for the elderly were higher proportion of women, older, higher rate of bereavement, more children than the elders that utilize in-home care service, but some cases were vice-versa. Second, the elders that utilize care service in institutions more ADL dependency, higher proportion of severe dementia or severe stroke, higher care rank by National Health Insurance Corporation than the elders that utilize in-home care service on average. Third, primary caregivers with elders that utilize in-home care service were higher proportion of women, older, lower education level, higher rate of spouse and daughter-in-law in relationship with care recipient, less health, lower income than primary caregivers with elders that utilize care service in institutions. Fourth, subjective indicators representing caregivers' reactions to caregiving for the elderly significantly impact on caregivers' stress(ie, depression), and pathway of caregivers' stress are differentiated by type of long term care services. Fifth, stressors that have direct impacts on depression as caregiving family are differentiated by type of long term care services. Therefore, policies or programs to reduce negative mental health or stress of caregivig families should be designed differently by reflecting pathway of various stressors and stress by use types of long term care services for the elderly.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the facility adaptation characteristics, and the relationship between facility adaptation and the potential affective factors; ADL, self-efficacy, and quality of care facility, and to identify the affective factors on facility adaptation for elders in long-term care facility. Data were collected from 177 none dementia elders over 65 in 9 long-term care facilities from Jan.2, 2011 to March 15, 2011. The data were analysed through t/F test, correlation coefficient, and multiple regression (stepwise). The major findings of this study were as follow; Facility adaptation shows significant difference from admission decision maker(p=.004), religion(p=.027), and motive of admission(p=.009). And facility adaptation has weakly correlated with ADL and quality of care facility. The affective adaptation factors were decision maker, motive of admission, personal interview, religion, and perceived health status, but showed 22.8% of explanation. Thus the findings from this study could be used as bases for nursing intervention supporting elders' care facility adaptation.
