  • Freon gas has been replaced with LPG in the cosmetic industry because of its bad effects on environment. In this paper, skincare product with a cooling effect was developed using LPG as propellant. A cooling effect is obtained by the ice which is formed through spraying. Ice formation is affected by the composition of LPG and most of all, the high content of propane gas in the LPG results in the irregular surface of ice formed because of its high vapor pressure. Also the ratio of LPG to skincare solution affects the formation of ice.

  • The combustion and emission characteristics of propane and n-butane which are the main components of LPG were compared with gasoline. The experiment was performed in a stratified DISI engine under lean combustion conditions. Mixtures of propane and n-butane wre more homogeneous because propane and n-butane have better evaporation characteristics. As a result, combustion speeds of n-butane and propane were slower, and emission levels of NOx and PM were lower. However, in spite of better evaporation, PM from propane was higher.

  • The autoignition temperature (AIT) is important index for the safe handling of flammable liquids which constitute the solvent mixtures. This study measured the AITs and ignition delay time for n-Butanol+sec-Butanol system by using ASTM E659 apparatus. The AITs of n-Butanol and sec-Butanol which constituted binary system were $340^{\circ}C$ and $447^{\circ}C$, respectively. The experimental AITs of n-Butanol+sec-Butanol system were a good agreement with the calculated AITs by the proposed equations with a few A.A.D. (average absolute deviation).

  • Autoignition characteristic is an important parameter for designing diesel or PCCI engines. In particular, diesel spray flames are lifted from the nozzle and the initial flame is formed by an autoignition phenomenon. The lifted nature of diesel spray flames influences soot formation, since air will be entrained into the spray core by the entrainment of air between the nozzle region and the lifted flame base. The objective of the present study was to identify the effect of heat loss on the ignition delay time by adopting a coflow jet as a model problem. Methane ($CH_4$), ethylene ($C_2H_4$), ethane ($C_2H_6$), propene ($C_3H_6$), propane ($C_3H_8$), and normal butane (n-$C_4H_{10}$) fuels were injected into high temperature air, and the liftoff height was measured experimentally. As the result, a correlation was determined between the liftoff height of the autoignited lifted flame and the ignition delay time considering the heat loss to the atmosphere.
