  • As the data volumes and complexity rapidly increase, data-intensive science handling large-scale scientific data needs to investigate new techniques for intelligent storage and data distribution over networks. Recently, Named Data Networking (NDN) and data-intensive science communities have inspired innovative changes in distribution and management for large-scale experimental data. In this article, analysis on NDN testbeds for large-scale scientific data such as climate science data and High Energy Physics (HEP) data is presented. This article is the first attempt to analyze existing NDN testbeds for large-scale scientific data. NDN testbeds for large-scale scientific data are described and discussed in terms of status, NDN-based application, and features, which are NDN testbed instance for climate science, NDN testbed instance for both climate science and HEP, and the NDN testbed in SANDIE project. Finally various issues to prevent pitfalls in NDN testbed establishment for large-scale scientific data are analyzed and discussed, which are drawn from the descriptions of NDN testbeds and features on them.

  • Limitation of the TCP/IP network technology included in the vehicle communication is due to the frequent mobility of the vehicle, the increase in intermittent connection requirements, and the constant presence of the possibility of vehicle hacking. VNDN technology enables the transfer of the name you are looking for using textual information without the need for vehicle identifiers like IP/ID. In addition, intermittent connectivity communication is possible rather than end-to-end connection communication. The data itself is the subject of communication based on name-based forwarding using two types of packets: Interest packet and Data packet. One of the issues to be solved for the realization of infotainment services under the VNDN environment is the traffic explosion caused by data broadcasting. In this paper, we analyze and compare the existing technologies to reduce the data broadcast storm. Through this, we derive and analyze the requirements for presenting the best data mitigation technique for solving the data explosion phenomenon in the VNDN environment. We expect this paper can be utilized as prior knowledge in researching improved forwarding techniques to resolve the data broadcast explosion in connected vehicles over NDN.

  • When VNDN technology is used as a communication technology for infotainment application services of connected vehicles, it is possible to realize data-centric networking technology in which data is the subject of communication.Vehicle security attacks and hacks, performance degradation during long-distance data transmission, and frequent data loss It is possible to innovate the limitations of the current host-oriented Internet-based infotainment application service technology of connected vehicles. The data packet forwarding issue to deliver critical information data that is very sensitive to delay in the VNDN on a push-based basis to RSU (Road Side Unit), etc. is one of the issues to be solved for realizing VNDN-based application services. We comprehensively analyze existing forwarding techniques to support push-based data traffic under the environment, and compare and analyze each technique in terms of performance.

  • Recently, many studies on VNDN technology have been conducted to graft Named Data Networking (NDN) into VANET as a core network technology. VNDN can use the content name to deliver various infotainment application content data through name-based forwarding. When VNDN is used as a communication technology for infotainment applications in connected vehicles, it is possible to realize data-centric networking technology in which data is the subject of communication. It can overcome the limitations of connected vehicle infotainment application service technology based on the host-centric current Internet, such as security attack/hacking, performance degradation in long-distance data transmission, frequent data cut-off. In this paper, we present the main functions provided by VNDN technology, and systematically analyze and organize the issues necessary to realize infotainment application services for connected vehicles in the VNDN environment. Based on this, it can be utilized as basic information necessary to establish infotainment application requirements in VNDN environment.

  • Future network architectures such as Named Data Networking (NDN) were born to change the way data can be transmitted from current host-centric network technologies to information-centric network technologies. Recently, many studies are being conducted to graft Vehicular NDN to the communication network technology of smart vehicles including connected vehicles. Explosion of data traffic due to Interest/Data packet broadcasting in Vehicular NDN environment is a very important problem to be solved in order to realize VNDN-based data communication. In this paper, the generation of data packet copies according to the increase in network size, vehicle speed, and frequency of interest packets in VNDN network is simulated and evaluated using ndnSIM, in order to show how severe the data broadcast storm phenomenon. The CDP(Copies of Data Packets) increased proportionally in the increase of network size or Interest frequency.
