Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a commercialized friction material in friction pendulum systems used for earthquake hazard mitigation in structures, and it has excellent chemical resistance and frictional performance. However, PTFE has a relatively low wear resistance for the friction pendulum systems in service. As an alternative to PTFE, a cost-effective frictional material, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) strengthened by magnesium oxide (MgO), with enhanced wear resistance performance is proposed in this study. The frictional performance of the developed PVDF/MgO was evaluated through experiments and compared with that of PTFE. Accordingly, a friction pendulum system was designed using the measured friction coefficient. The performance of this friction pendulum system was evaluated via nonlinear time history analyses of bridges. Subsequently, the plausibility of using PVDF/MgO as an alternative to PTFE as a friction material for friction pendulum systems was discussed.

Up until now, most protection design has been concerned primarily with concrete's exterior protection from corrosion, its waterproof ability and its reparability. However, there are many cases in which service life of the concrete is shortened because suitability of the type of concrete surface has not been thoroughly investigated in the development process. According1y, this paper presents the development and test of the material for its reparability and its protection against corrosion in the case of wet surfaces (i.e. water supply facilities, sewage systems, and port facilities) in this country. From the test, both A type and B type are excellent for durability in watertightness, chemical resistance and abrasion. Test results of adhesive strength over $15kgf/cm^2$ under both wet and dry conditions, curing conditions and various temperatures conditions were also achieved in field tests.

Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) sheets have been widely used to retrofit and rehabilitate RC structures, while in case of retrofitting steel structures, there are no codes and researches. It stems from configuration of member and characteristics of bonding behavior. This study focused on the static behavior of steel beams reinforcement by AFRP sheets. The main objective of the experimental programme was the evaluation of the force transfer mechanism, the increment of the beam load carrying capacity and the bending stiffness. A bending test was conducted on a H-shaped steel beam, with aramid FRP sheets bonded to its flanges. The mid-span deflection and the strain from three points along AFRP sheets were recorded Test results exhibit that the increment of the load-carrying capacity with reference to a mid-span deflection level of 15 mm(1/125mm of the clear span) was equal to 9.4% and for the two layers case, an elastic stiffness increment is slightly higher than one layer case.

The heat resistance of steel materials tends to weaken due to its high heat transfer properties, which might result in deteriorated strength because of rapidly rising temperature on surface in a fire. Particularly in case of CFT column that bears tensile stress of the structure on its external steel members, a numerical analysis on deterioration of strength and variation of stress shall be first carried out to ensure the structure will have sufficient fire resistance. In the study, based on values obtained from the high temperature material property test of steel materials and concrete, the test to forecast the fire behavior of CFT column was conducted using a finite element analysis method (ABAQUS). An Analysis in a bid to predict the heat transfer and the behavior characteristics by varying the strength of the concrete filled to the range of 40MPA and 50MPA was carried out. As a result of analysis of CFT column on condition of 180-minute exposure under the standard fire condition, 123mm of strain appeared with 40MPA model, while 91mm contraction with 50MPA model.
To obtain a lower story height with a long span and better fire resistance, a new composite floor system using GFRP (glass-fiber-reinforced plastics) was proposed. This floor system consists of asymmetric steel with a web opening, a hollow core ball, concrete, and GFRP. To evaluate the flexural performance of the new composite floor system, an experiment was conducted. The test parameters were the presence of GFRP, the void ratio in relation to the hollow core balls, and the web opening. The test results showed that the resistance and stiffness of the specimen with GFRP were 10% higher than those of the reference specimen, and that fully composite action was accomplished up to the yielding point. After the attainment of the yield strength, the ductility of the specimen was reduced due to the stress concentration around the web openings. The slip between the concrete and steel beam, however, was small. Thus, in the design of the proposed new floor systems, it is desirable that the calculated resistance be reduced by 15%, for safety.

The unsaturated polyester(UP) and epoxy resin have a superior material properties and a chemical resistance using sewerage pipes rehabilitation. However, UP and epoxy have not a low temperatures harding, the requirement $8{\sim}11$ hours long times harding and heating system used by reinforcement liner. This study is to evaluate the effects of low temperature harding properties methyl methacrylate(MMA) monomer using expanded polystyrene(EPS) and UP in addition of initiator and promoters. From the test result, viscosity tends to increase with increasing EPS and UP contents. However, harding time change of the MMA resins which it follows in addition of the initiator and promoter.

It is well known that high strength concrete with compressive strength higher than 50 MPa shows severe material and structural damages under fire due to spalling. To understand degradation of structural capacity of fire damaged high strength concrete structures, not only thermo-mechanical behavior needs to be defined, but also structural behavior of high strength concrete member under high temperature needs to be investigated. In this study, structural tests are performed by applying axial loads on high strength concrete columns exposed at elevated temperatures for assigned amount of time. The tested columns are prepared to have different concrete strength and polypropylene fiber percentage. The test results show that structural capacity of the columns decreased with increased compressive strength of concrete under same heating condition. Especially, it is interesting to note that high strength concrete columns with polypropylene fiber for spalling proof did not improve structural capacity compared to the columns without polypropylene fiber. The findings from the test are able to improve fire proof design of high strength concrete structural members and predicting structural performance of fire damaged structural members.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the properties of composite systems using polymer cement and epoxy resins for waterproofing and anti-corrosion to concrete structures such as water supply facilities and sewage-works. For the waterproofing and anti-corrosion of concrete structures, there can be required various properties such as absorption capacity and water permeability, adhesion and tensile strength, hair crack-resistance, impact-resistance, repeated low and high temperature test and chemical resistance, soundness for drinking water, soundness for drinking water and etc. In this study these engineering properties of composite systems using polymer-modified mortar and epoxy resins were examined and could be confirmed to satisfy the guidelines of KS. Especially, it was turn out that the adhesion properties was excellent and high crack-resistance up to 1.49 mm will be perform.

Installation of a proper root barrier in a green roof system is very important in order to protect the concrete slab of roof and the root penetration in the waterproofing layer. To select the proper root barrier materials and methods, it is necessary to understand the environmental conditions affecting the waterproofing-root barrier system in green roof construction site. Therefore, we suggested as the environmental performance indexes four kinds of performance requirements; root penetration, chemical attack by chemical agent or fertilizer, load impact by soil depth and size of plant, and water pressure. The related four test methods were suggested for the inspection of these performance indexes. In this research, we could suggest for kinds of test methods as standard test methods to evaluate the environmental performance of waterproofing-root barrier for greening roof system.
