  • Three small scale hollow circular reinforced concrete columns(4.5 aspect ratio) were tested under cyclic lateral load with constant axial load. Diameter of section is 400 mm, hollow diameter is 200 mm. The selected test variable are transverse steel ratio. Volumetric ratio of spirals of all the columns is 0.302~0.604% in the plastic hinge region. It corresponds to 45.9~91.8% of the minimum requirement of confining steel by Korean Bridge Design Specifications, which represent existing columns not designed by the current seismic design specifications or designed by seismic concept. The final objectives of this study are to provide quantitative reference data and tendency for performance or damage assessment based on the performance levels such as cracking, yielding, steel fracture, etc. In this paper, describes mainly failure behavior, strength degradation behaviour, displacement ductility of circular reinforced concrete bridge columns with respect to test variables.

  • The shear wall system with coupling beams has been known as an effective means for moderate and high rise buildings up to 40 stories, because this structural system can provide the enhanced lateral stiffness compared to individual shear walls. Typical reinforced concrete coupling beams have difficulties in construction due to complicated reinforcing work on site, and steel coupling beams also have disadvantages in economical point of view because of a large number of stiffeners required for its stability under lateral loading. To overcome these disadvantages in existing coupling beam systems, this study developed the prestressed composite coupling beam with discontinuous webs, which have improved constructability, economic feasibility, and reduced sectional size. The reversed cyclic loading test on two prestressed composite coupling beams with discontinuous webs having different shear reinforcement ratios have been conducted to investigate their structural performances, and test results showed that the proposed composite coupling beams had good seismic performances.

  • RC frames with unreinforced masonry infiledl walls are common in worldwide. Since infilled walls are normally considered as non-structural elements, their presence is often ignored by engineers. In this study, to improve the seismic performance of masonry walls, hexagonal block was developed and the influence of masonry infilled wall on the seismic performance of reinforced concrete(RC) frames that were designed in accordance with current code provisions without the consideration of earthquake loadings are investigated. Two 1/2 scale, single story, single bay, frame specimens were tested. The parameters investigated included that the strength of infilled wallls with respect to that of the lateral load history. The experimental results indicate that infilled walls can significantly improve the lateral stiffness and strength of RC frames. The lateral loads developed by the infilled frame specimen is higher than that of the bare frame. It also indicates that infilled walls can be potentially used to improve the performance of existing nonductile frames. For this purpose. methods should be developed to avoid irreparable damage and catastrophic failure.

  • This paper evaluates seismic capacities of slab-column joints in flat plate system which has columns with various aspect ratio as experimental parameters. Continuous - bended shear reinforcements were applied for the prevention of punching shear failure in this study. The specimens of FIS1-05, FIS1-10, and FIS1-20 have the aspect ratio of 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 respectively. Static lateral force was applied to the specimens in a horizontal direction and vertical load was applied by constant gravity load ratio. The test results were evaluated by lateral displacement and strength of slab-column joint. Consequently, the lateral resisting capacity of rectangular type column such as FIS1-05, FIS1-20 is superior to the square type column such as FIS1-10.

  • In this study, quasi-static according to the displacement-controlled (strain control) method tests on RC columns for seismic reinforcement performance in accordance with the provisions of the seismic design and construction before 1992 design code for highway bridges in korea. Used reinforcement that improves the performance of Inorganic Helical Bar, a kind of alloy steel, circular columns were tested outside the seismic reinforcing. In the experiment, fracture behavior, lateral load-displacement relation, ductility and energy assessment evaluation was performed through tests. The variables in experimental are section force of reinforcement, spiral reinforcement spacing, reinforcement method. Improved seismic performance and effect were confirmed through quasi-static test experiments. The results of study confirmed determination the appropriate size of reinforcement, reinforcement forces, spacing and selection of the type required, furthermore, not only mechanical reinforcement but also substitution of high-strength concrete reinforced with concrete cover improved seismic performance.

  • Recently, there are highly interests on structural damping to improve resistance of seismic and wind. It has been frequently used hysteresis damping devices made of steel because of economic efficiency, construction, and maintenance. This paper presents the effective reduction of seismic response by using Kagome damping system(SKDS) in rahmen system apartment building. The proposed system is designed to be activated by the relative displacement between the building and the stairs. It is performed nonlinear dynamic analysis to review the effects of earthquake response reduction for the 20-stories rahmen framed apartment building. In the analysis of the SKDS system, the reduction of maximum response displacement, maximum response acceleration and layer shear force are compared with the seismic design, and the result show that allowable story displacement is satisfied with Korean Building Code (KBC 2016).

The selected test variables are longitudinal steel ratio (2.017%, 3.161%), transverse steel ratio, and axial load ratio (0, 0.07, 0.15). Volumetric ratio of spirals of all the columns is 0.335~0.894% in the plastic hinge region. It corresponds to 39.7~122.3% of the minimum requirement of confining steel by Korean Bridge Design Specifications, which represent existing columns not designed by the current seismic design specifications or designed by seismic concept. • This study presents continuous and discrete optimum design algorithm and computer programs for unbraced and braced steel frame structures under earthquake loads. The program, which is avaliable to perform structural analysis and optimum design, continuous and discrete, simultaneously is developed. And the program adopts various braced types, Untraced, Z-braced(V), Z-braced(inverse-V), X-braced(A), X-braced(B), X-braced(C) and K-braced, in steel structures with static loads and seismic effects. The objectives in this optimization are to minimize the total weight of steel, and design variables, based on the ultimate strength requirements of AISC-ASD specifications, the serviceability requirements and allowable story drift requirements of ATC-3-06, and various constraints. The purpose is to present proper braced type for seismic effects by comparing and analysing results of various cases.

  • Constitutive modeling of constituent materials is very important for reinforced concrete (RC) frames. Cyclic constitutive behavior of unconfined concrete, confined concrete and reinforcing steel should be well defined in fiber-based discretization of RC sections. This study performs nonlinear dynamic analyses of RC frame structures to investigate the sensitivity of seismic behavior of such frames to different constitutive models of constituent materials. The study specifically attempts to examine confinement effects in concrete modeling and degrading effects in steel modeling, which substantially affects the monotonic, cyclic and seismic responses of RC members and frames. Based on the system level analysis, it is shown that the response of non-ductile frames is less sensitive to confined concrete models while the modeling of reinforcing steel is quite influential to the inelastic response of both non-ductile and ductile frames.
