A Study on the Development of the Seismic Fragility Functions of the High Speed Railway Tunnels in use (기존 고속철도 터널의 지진취약도 함수 개발에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the staged seismic performance evaluations were conducted to the 91 high speed railway tunnels in use for checking whether to comply with the recent design criteria or not. In addition, the seismic fragility functions of the tunnels were developed to allow the probabilistic risk assessment. The results of the staged seismic performance evaluations which consist of a preliminary assessment and a detailed assessment, show that the tunnels comply with the recent design criteria. With reference to the results of previous studies, a form of the proposed seismic fragility functions was set as a log-normal distribution by PGA, and the parameters of the functions were determined by using the probability of damage for the design PGA level. The seismic fragility functions were developed for each types (Cut & Cover, NATM) of tunnels. The seismic fragility functions from this study and the existing research results (FEMA, 2004) were compared to evaluate the seismic performance level of the tunnels, as a result the tunnels of this study were relatively superior to the ASSM tunnels on the seismic performance.

Some Thoughts on the Preliminary Seismic Performance Evaluation Procedure of Subway Infrastructures (도시철도 시설물의 내진성능 예비평가체계에 대한 소고)

  • There is a few problems in the preliminary seismic performance evaluation procedure of subway infrastructures, such as cut-and-cover tunnel structures and bridge structures, recently because the characteristics of subway infrastructures are not properly considered in the procedure. In particular, the evaluation procedure of vehicular bridge structures is applied to subway bridges without any modification. Moreover, the present evaluation procedure is lack of both theoretical and empirical backgrounds, which makes the evaluation less reliable. This paper presents problems in the existing preliminary evaluation procedure and proposes possible modification(revision) to the procedure.

A Study on Seismic Performance of External Reinforcement for Unreinforced Masonry Buildings (비보강 조적조 건축물의 외부 보강에 따른 내진성능 연구)

  • In this study, we evaluated the seismic performance of a masonry building that was not designed to be earthquake-resistant and attempted to improve the seismic performance by adopting a seismic reinforcement method on the exterior of the building. In addition, the building seismic design standards and commentary(KDS 41 17 00:2019) and existing facility(building) seismic performance evaluation methods were applied to evaluate seismic performance, and a pushover analysis was performed using non-linear static analysis. As the result of this study, it was determined that seismic reinforcement was urgent because the distribution rate of earthquake-resistant design of houses in Korea was low and masonry structures accounted for a large proportion of houses. When reinforcing the steel beam-column+brace frame in a masonry building, the story drift angle was 0.043% in the X direction and 0.047% in the Y direction, indicating that it satisfied the regulations. The gravity load resistance capacity by performance level was judged to be a safe building because it was habitable in both X and Y directions. In conclusion, it is believed that the livability and convenience of the house can be secured by reinforcing the exterior of the building and the seismic performance and behavior of the structure can be clearly predicted.

Seismic Performance of Circular RC Bridge Columns with Longitudinal Steel Connection Details (축방향철근 연결상세에 따른 철근콘크리트 원형교각의 내진성능)

  • The longitudinal steel connection of reinforced concrete bridge column is sometimes practically unavoidable, however the current Korean bridge design specifications have no special provisions about lap-splices of longitudinal steel. This paper reports experimental results of a research program investigating the seismic performance of circular RC bridge columns with respect to longitudinal steel connection detailing. Twenty-one circular column specimens were tested under quasi-static test. The columns with the entire longitudinal steel lap-spliced within plastic hinge region show relatively sudden strength degradation and low ductility than the columns with continuous longitudinal steel and the columns with half of longitudinal steel lap-spliced. However, the seismic performance of the column with mechanically connected longitudinal steel is similar to that of the column with continuous longitudinal steel. The final objectives of this study are to suggest appropriate longitudinal reinforcement connection details for the limited ductility design concept and to provide quantitative reference data and tendency for performance or damage assessment based on the performance levels such as cracking, yielding, collapse, etc. Ultimate displacement/drift ratio, displacement ductility, response modification factor, equivalent viscous damping ratio, residual deformation index, and effective stiffness are investigated and discussed in this paper.

A Seismic Capacity of R/C Building Damaged by the 2016 Gyeongju Earthquake Based on the Non-linear Dynamic Analysis (비선형동적해석에 의한 2016년 경주지진에서 지진피해를 받은 R/C 건물의 내진성능에 관한 연구)

  • On September 12, 2016, the Gyeongju District was strongly shaken with M=5.8, which was the largest one since measured by the actual seismometer in Korea, and some buildings were damaged. The field survey of reinforced concrete school buildings in the affected area was carried out, and their residual seismic capacities(R) were estimated based on the Japanese Standard for post-earthquake damage evaluation. In this study, the M school, which was greatly damaged by the 2016 Gyeongju Earthquake, was selected, and its damage level was evaluated on the basis of the Japanese Standard. The seismic capacity of the M school was also evaluated using the nonlinear dynamic analysis, and relationships between its damage level and seismic capacity was also conducted to investigate causes of earthquake damage. The damage level of M school was classified into light with R=88.2%. The result of the dynamic analysis agreed reasonably well with the damage of M school sustained by the 2016 Gyeongju earthquake. This will provide fundamental data for earthquake preparedness measures, such as the seismic rehabilitation of low-rise reinforced concrete buildings in Korea.

Effects of the Recorded Earthquake Data on the Seismic Fragilities of Korean Nuclear Power Plant Structures (한반도 기록지진의 특성이 원자력발전소 구조물의 지진취약도에 미치는 영향 평가)

  • Seismic fragility analysis (SFA) has been utilized to evaluate the actual seismic capacity of structure and equipment in nuclear power plants (NPP). This paper briefly introduces an improved method for evaluating seismic fragilities of components of NPP's in Korea. Engineering characteristics of small magnitude earthquake spectra recorded in the Korean peninsula during the last several years are also discussed in this paper. Some significant differences between the Newmark's spectra and the recorded spectra as a site-dependent spectra are assessed. Several comparative SFA's have been performed to evaluate the effects of the recorded earthquakes on the seismic capacities of Korean NPP structures. The results showed that SFA using the Newmark's spectra might over estimate the actual seismic capacities of Korean facilities.

  • 준공 후 상당한 시간이 지나 내진설계가 되지 않았거나 내진상세가 이루어지지 않은 건물의 부족한 내진성능을 보완하기 위한 방법의 하나로 좌굴이 제한된 가새형 댐퍼를 적용할 수 있다. 이 방법을 적용할 경우, 기존 내진보강법의 불확실성을 줄일 수 있었음에도 불구하고, 댐퍼의 설계과정이 복잡하여 실무에 적용하기 어려웠다. 그러나 본 원고에서는 강성과 강도개념을 적용한 댐퍼의 설계법을 적용함으로써, 실무에서 쉽게 적용할 수 있도록 하였다. 준공된 지 16년이 지난 비틀림 비정형 건물에 대한 내진성능을 평가한 후, 가새형 댐퍼로 보강한 결과는 다음과 같다. (1) 일방향해석결과 나타난 골조별 하중-지붕변위의 관계를 이용하여, 연약골조의 강성을 강한 골조의 강성과 일치시키고, 이 강성비로부터 댐퍼가 부담하는 최적의 내력비율을 정하여 내진보강을 수행한 결과, 가새를 설치한 방향으로는 가새형댐퍼가 비틀림 방지와 연성증대효과를 구조물에 부여하여 성능이 획기적으로 증가하였다. 또한, 그 가새의 직각방향 하중에 대해서도 가새를 설치함으로써 비틀림 강성이 증가하고, 가새와 코어벽체가 인장과 압축으로 횡력에 저항하여 횡저항 성능이 증가하였다. (2) 내진성능이 부족한 비틀림 비정형 건물의 내진성능을 증진시키기 위해 가새형 댐퍼를 적용함에 있어, 댐퍼의 강성을 이용하여 구조체의 비틀림 거동을 최소화하고, 연성을 증진시키는 방법을 체택할 경우, 실무자들이 보다 쉽게 적용할 수 있으면서 그 효과도 상당히 클 것으로 기대된다.

Seismic Performance Evaluation of a Structure Using Direct Displacement-Based Design Method (직접 변위설계법을 이용한 구조물의 내진성능평가)

  • A procedure for determination of performance point was developed based on the concept of the direct displacement-based design method. Using the proposed procedure, parametric study has been performed for various natural periods of the structure, yield strength, and the stiffness after the first yield. The proposed method was also applied to a 10-story steel frame, and the results were compared to those from the capacity spectrum method and the time history analysis. It was found from the comparison that there were good agreement between the results.

  • In this study, nonlinear finite element analysis procedures are presented for the seismic performance assessment of circular reinforced concrete bridge piers with confinement steel. This paper defines a damage index based on the predicted hysteretic behavior of a circular reinforced concrete bridge pier. Damage indices aim to provide a means of quantifying numerically the damage in circular reinforced concrete bridge piers sustained under earthquake loading. The proposed numerical method is applied to circular reinforced concrete bridge piers with confinement steel tested by the authors. The proposed numerical method gives a realistic prediction of seismic performance throughout the loading cycles for several test specimens investigated.

  • 1995년 일본 고베지진 이후 우리나라에서도 지진에 대한 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있으며, 현재 국내 여러 기간시설에 대한 내진안전성 평가와 내진설계가 실시되고 있다. 국내 기존 항만시설에 대해서도 내진 안정성 평가가 수행되고 있으며 현재계획ㆍ시공되고 있는 항만에서도 내진설계가 반영되고 있다. 중요한 항만시설물 중 하나인 잔교식 안벽은 연직말뚝과 경사말쪽을 조합하여 사용하고 있으나, 최근 내진설계에서 경사말뚝이 지진과 같은 동적 하중에 취약하다는 이유로 사용에 제한을 받고 있다. (중략)
