Developing an Education Image Retrieval System based on MPEG-7 using KEM 2.0 (KEM 2.0을 이용한 MPEG-7 기반의 교육용 영상정보 검색시스템 개발)

  • WThe education information have been increased. Accordingly, the necessary of developing on education information metadata standards has been increased. By the reason, the Korea Education & Research Information Service developed KEM(Korea Educational Metadata) 2.0. And MPEG-7 was developed to describe metadata of multimedia data. In this paper, we developed a education information image retrieval system. This system used XML schema to accept education information image metadata. We integrated contents-based retrieval and a semantic-based retrieval to overcome there problems that content-based retrieval system can not support semantic-based retrieval and a semantic-based retrieval can not support content-based retrieval. As a results, we expect to handle metadata more efficiently.

  • Recently, there has been studied on feature extraction method for efficient content-based image retrieval. Especially, many researchers have been studying on extracting from color information, because of its advantages. This paper proposes a feature and its extraction method based on color information in an image. The proposed method is computed from the image segmented into two parts: the complex part and the plan part. Our experiments show that the performance of the proposed method is better as compared with the original color correlogram method.

A Contents-based Drug Image Retrieval System Using Shape Classification and Color Information (모양분류와 컬러정보를 이용한 내용기반 약 영상 검색 시스템)

  • In this paper, we present a novel approach for contents-based medication image retrieval from a medication image database using the shape classification and color information of the medication. One major problem in developing a contents-based drug image retrieval system is there are too many similar images in shape and color and it makes difficult to identify any specific medication by a single feature of the drug image. To resolve such difficulty in identifying images, we propose a hybrid approach to retrieve a medication image based on shape and color features of the medication. In the first phase of the proposed method we classify the medications by shape of the images. In the second phase, we identify them by color matching between a query image and preclassified images in the first phase. For the shape classification, the shape signature, which is unique shape descriptor of the medication, is extracted from the boundary of the medication. Once images are classified by the shape signature, Hue and Saturation(HS) color model is used to retrieve a most similarly matched medication image from the classified database images with the query image. The proposed system is designed and developed especially for specific population- seniors to browse medication images by using visual information of the medication in a feasible fashion. The experiment shows the proposed automatic image retrieval system is reliable and convenient to identify the medication images.

  • 영상 검색 시스템들은 아직까지 내용 기반에 의한 검색 기술이 실용적으로 쓰일 만큼 높은 성능을 보이고 있지 않기 때문에 대부분 텍스트기반에 의한 검색을 지원하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 웹 에이젼트를 이용하여 웹상에서 멀티미디어 정보를 검색하는 것으로 HTML문서에 나타나는 텍스트 중 영상 이름이나 링크에 붙어 있는 텍스트를 추출하여 멀티미디어 자료를 데이터베이스화하였다. 이 데이터베이스에 저장된 영상 자료는 웹 브라우저에서 질의자의 스케치에 의한 검색과 그리고 예제 영상 질의로 검색하는 방법을 제시하여 질의 효율성을 개선하였다.

Query-by-emotion sketch for local emotion-based image retrieval (지역 감성기반 영상 검색을 위한 감성 스케치 질의)

  • In order to retrieve images with different emotions in regions of the images, this paper proposes the image retrieval system using emotion sketch. The proposed retrieval system divides an image into $17{\times}17$ sub-regions and extracts emotion features in each sub-region. In order to extract the emotion features, this paper uses emotion colors on 160 emotion words from H. Nagumo's color scheme imaging chart. We calculate a histogram of each sub-region and consider one emotion word having the maximal value as a representative emotion word of the sub-region. The system demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed emotion sketch and our experimental results show that the system successfully retrieves on the Corel image database.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient feature extaetion method for content-based approach and implement an image retrieval system in the Oracle database. First, we estract color feature by the modified Stricker's method from input images, and this color feature and ART2 neural network are used for the rough classification of images. Next, we extract texture feature using wavelet transform, and finally exeute the detailed classification on the rough classified images from the previous step. Exsing the proposed feature extraction methods, we implement a useful image retrieval system by Extended SQI, statement on the relational database. The proposed system is implemented on the Oracle DBMS, and in the experimental results with 200 sample images, it shows the retrieval rate 90% and 81% in Recall and Precision, respectively.

  • In order to process video data effectively, it is required that the content information of video data is loaded in database and semantic- based retrieval method can be available for various query of users. Currently existent contents-based video retrieval systems search by single method such as annotation-based or feature-based retrieval, and show low search efficiency and requires many efforts of system administrator or annotator form less perfect automatic processing. In this paper, we propose semantic-based video retrieval system which support semantic retrieval of various users by feature-based retrieval and annotation-based retrieval of massive video data. By user's fundamental query and selection of image for key frame that extracted from query, the agent gives the detail shape for annotation of extracted key frame. Also, key frame selected by user become query image and searches the most similar key frame through feature based retrieval method that propose. Therefore, we design the system that can heighten retrieval efficiency of video data through semantic-based retrieval.

A Video Information Management System for Supporting Caption- and Content-based Searches (주석 및 내용 기반 검색을 지원하는 동영상 정보 관리 시스템)

  • Generally, either caption-based search method or content-based search methods is used to retrieve video information. However, each search method has its limitations. Caption-based search is apt to lose consistency as for user's subjects, and content-based search is hard to extract general means. To enhance efficiency and correctness as for complementing each other, we propose the Integrated Video Data Model(IVDM) which integrates the two search methods, to device the model, we analyze video data and construct the structure of video information hierarchically. IVDM supports caption-based search as assigning meta-data by analyzing thematic-unit in the higher level, and also supports content-based search as extracting feature data by analyzing the content of video data in the lower level. We design Object-Oriented database schema of news video, based-on the IVDM. And we provide 4-type of queries and query processing algorithm to retrieve news video information.

Content-based Image Retrieval using the Color and Wavelet-based Texture Feature (색상특징과 웨이블렛 기반의 질감특징을 이용한 영상 검색)

  • In this paper we propose an efficient content-based image retrieval method using the color and wavelet based texture features. The color features are obtained from soft-color histograms of the global image and the wavelet-based texture features are obtained from the invariant moments of the high-pass sub-band through the spatial-frequency analysis of the wavelet transform. The proposed system, called a color and texture based two-step retrieval(CTBTR), is composed of two-step query operations for an efficient image retrieval. In the first-step matching operation, the color histogram features are used to filter out the dissimilar images quickly from a large image database. The second-step matching operation applies the wavelet based texture features to the retained set of images to retrieve all relevant images successfully. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm yields more improved retrieval accuracy with computationally efficiency than the previous methods.

2-D Invariant Descriptors for Shape-Based Image Retrieval (모양에 기반한 영상 검색을 위한 2-D Invariant Descriptor)

  • 모양 정보를 이용하는 내용기반 영상 검색 시스템에서 검색 정확도는 시스템에서 사용되는 모양 기술자에 매우 의존한다. 정확한 검색을 위해서 기술자는 이동, 회전, 스케일에 불변해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 모멘트 불변량과 푸리에 기술자를 복합적으로 사용하는 유사도 기법을 제시한다. 이 방법은 하나의 불변량 기술자를 사용하는 것보다 더 우수한 결과를 나타내었다. 푸리에 기술자와 네 개의 모멘트 불변량(Hu의 모멘트 불변량, Taubin의 모멘트 불변량, Flusser의 모멘트 불변량, Zernike 모멘트 불변량)을 구현하여 성능을 측정하였다. 영상분할된 이진 영상 데이터베이스로부터 각 기술자의 검색 정확도를 계산하였다. 실험 결과 경계선에 기초하는 푸리에 기술자와 영역에 기초하는 모멘트 불변량을 동시에 사용하는 방법이 영상 검색에 있어서 우수한 성능을 보였다.
