Vascular Plants Distributed in Namcheon Stream in Gyeongju City (경주시 남천에 분포하는 관속식물상)

  • The purpose of this study was to present the ecologically important data for conservation and management of river ecosystem. Namcheon Stream, the study site, is a local river flowing from the east to the west of Gyeongju. The results are as follows. The numbers of vascular plants were summarized as 518 taxa including 98 families, 321 genera, 467 species, 9 subspecies, 32 varieties, 4 forms, 4 hybrids and 2 cultivars. The rare plants were 4 taxa including Aristolochia contorta, Koelreuteria paniculata, Hydrocharis dubia and Sparganium stoloniferum. The Korean endemic plants were Populus × tomentiglandulosa, Salix koriyanagi, Lespedeza maritima, Weigela subsessilis and Hemerocallis hakuunensis. The floristic target species were 27 taxa including 2 taxa of grade IV, 4 taxa of grade III, 7 taxa of grade II and 14 taxa of grade I. The invasive alien plants were 92 taxa including Pterocarya stenoptera, Conyza canadensis, Vulpia myuros and so on. The ecosystem disturbing species were 6 taxa including Rumex acetosella, Sicyos angulatus, Solanum carolinense, Ambrosia artemisiifolia, Lactuca seriola and Symphyotrichum pilosum.

Protein Characteristics of the Recommended Soybean Varieties in Korea (장려품종 콩의 단백질 특성)

  • Soybean proteins of 19 varieties recommended In Korea were characterized by solubility classes, SDS-PAGE and amino acid composition. In distribution of the protein fractions by solubility difference, glycinin content was $48.19{\sim}58.86%$ of total protein. Prolamin, constituting about 1.16% of total protein, was the fraction showing the significant differences between varieties. The electrophoretic patterns of whole soybean proteins exhibited no varietal differences except in 6 varieties of Padal, Jangbaek, Jangyeob, Danyeob, Nameheon and S-138 in molecular weight range of $21.5{\sim}31.0%$ kd. Cystein, methionine, tyrosine and threonine were the minor components of soybean protein and percentage of tyrosine to the total proteins showed significant varietal differences.

  • Rhizobium japonicum wild type strains isolated from local soybean variety Jangback root nodules with higher nitrogenase activity than R. japonicum 3I1110 or 61A76 was mutangenized by N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine and UV-irradiation, and screened by effectiveness assay with soybean. One mutant strain JB65 nodulated the roots earlier than the wild type and also expressed higher acetylene-reducing activity in the presence and absence of fixed nitrogen. The selected mutant was compared with SM35 strain and showed greater nodulation and symbiotic nitrogen fixing activity with local soybean variety Jangback than SM35 strain.

Effects of Abscisic acid on Ozone Injury in Rice (벼의 오존피해 경감에 미치는 ABA의 효과)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects or abscisic acid (ABA), three concentrations, on growth, activities of antioxidant-related enzymes and grain yield of two rice plants (Oryza sativa L. cv. Hwamyungbyeo and cv. Namchunbyeo) exposed to ozone (0.150 ppm) for 6 hours a day for 30 days. The leaf chlorop0hyll contents, plant height, and tillering numbers were not shown significant difference. But ABA 10$^{-5}$ M treatment affects to growth slightly. In all concentrations of ABA, superoxide dismutase (SOB) activities were increased at tillering stage of Namchunbyeo which was exposed to ozone. It is considered that the optimum concentration of ABA is 10$^{-5}$ M for minimizing loss of grain yield loss.

Incidence of Rice False Smut Caused by Ustilaginoidea virens in Different Geographic Regions and Cultivars, and Its Chemical Control (지역 및 품종에 따른 벼 이삭누룩병 발생과 약제방제 효과)

  • Currently the rice false smut caused by Ustilaginoidea virens (Cooke) Takah. has occurred widely in Korea. A survey on the disease incidence at rice fields in 8 inland provinces was carried out in 2000, showing that the disease occurred at 104 (7.5%) out of 1,152 rice fields examined, ranging from 1.5% to 13.7% in provincial average. It was found that the disease incidence was greatly affected by local weather conditions and rice cultivars. In case of the most susceptible cultivar Namchunbyeo, the disease incidence was only about 1.3% in Icheon, while it was over 20% in Namwon which had weather conditions of the shorter sunshine period (about 64%) and the higher amount of precipitation (about 130%) during the rice cultivation than Icheon. In Icheon, artificial inoculation of the pathogen failed to induce the disease, probably because of the weather conditions unfavorable to the disease development, which also suggests that its incidence may be dependent on the weather conditions. Susceptibility of rice cultivars to the disease varied greatly; eight resistant cultivars including Heukjinjubyeo were not damaged by the disease, but 2 cultivars including Geumnambyeo and Namchunbyeo were severely damaged, having more than 20% of the disease incidence. Among chemicals tested fur the control of the rice false smut tebuconazole WP showed the highest control efficacy of 83∼88% on cvs. Geumnambyeo and Namchunbyeo. Other chemicals such as azoxystrobin WP and ferimzone WP also effectively suppressed the disease development in the field trials.

Diagnostic Evaluation on the Riparian Vegetation in the Changwon and Nam Streams for Preparing a Restoration Plan (창원천과 남천의 생태적 복원을 위한 식생 측면의 진단평가)

  • The Changwon and Nam streams that run through the Changwon city were evaluated based on longitudinal and horizontal configurations and vegetation state in order to prepare a restoration plan. Riparian vegetation of the Changwon and Nam streams are normally dominated by herbaceous plants. However, the woody plants, Salix pseudolasiogyne, Rubus parvifolius, Salix koreensis, Robinia pseudoacacia, and Amorpha fruticosa have appeared. Planting to introduce various types of plants for landscape architecture has also been observed. Evaluation of naturalness based on the vegetation state of both Changwon and Nam streams showed very low naturalness of degree 1 or 2, with the exception of a few reaches of the upstream sector. In these few reaches of the upstream sector, Salix koreensis and Salix chaenomeloides showed heights at the subtree level, however, they were located at the position of shrubland close to the waterway. These reaches were, therefore, evaluated as degree 3 rather than degree 4 in naturalness. The result of diagnostic evaluation classified by reach indicated the requirement for active restoration, such as transformation of the channelized stream into a meandering one and a step-type cross section into a pool-type one, introduction of vegetation suitable to the region and site, and creation of an ecological network between the stream and the surrounding terrestrial ecosystems.

A Study on Runoff Analysis of Urban Watershed by Hydrologic Infiltration Experiment of Permeable Pavement (투수성 포장의 침투 실험을 통한 도시유역 유출 변화 연구)

  • Recently, due to increase of the impervious layer, the storage of surface layer has been reduced. Otherwise the peak runoff and the total surface runoff have been raised. Because of larger amount of the peak runoff and the rapid time of concentration, the flood damage of the urban watershed was increased. The groundwater level is descended by reducing the amount of rainfall that infiltrated into the soil. Thereby the hydrologic cycle is degenerated by the dry stream. Therefore, in this study, the evaluation and the quantitative analysis of the percolation effect were performed through the infiltration experiment of permeable pavement, which is one of the ways that can reduce the problem of the dry stream. Also the SWMM model is used to analyze the effect of the hydrologic cycle for permeable pavement in Changwon stream and Nam stream watersheds, with the coefficient of permeability from the infiltration experiments.

Advection and Diffusion of Pollutant Inflow of Freshwater in Masan Bay (마산만에서의 담수 유입시 오염물의 이송 및 확산)

  • An estuary is very important that the seawater and the freshwater meet and they formed wide foreshore and estuarine which is used as the habitat of various living thing and spawning bed of fish. Masan bay is typical closing bay in Korea. It is located 9 km from the open sea and most inside of Jinhae bay. The width of bay entrance is less than 1 km, where the flow velocity is very low. The large scale industrial complex of Masan bay is located in near Masan and Changwon city whose population is about 100 million. Because of low tidal velocity, the pollutants from the land are accumulated, which makes the water quality worse in Masan bay. The purpose of this study is to analyze the various hydraulic characteristics using RMA-2 model. The advection and diffusion of pollutant is also simulated using RMA-4 model according to the inflow of Changwon-stream and Nam-stream. The hydraulic simulations include the effect of tide which can be characterized by the tide data of Masan bay tide observatory.

  • 본 연구에서는 2차원 수리모형을 이용하여 자연하천에 보가 없는 경우, 직선 보, 경사 보 3가지 경우로 적용하여 2차원 수리분석을 실시하여 상 하류 수리특성을 검토하여 향후 하천개설 및 하도 설계의 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다. 보의 배치가 하천에 미치는 영향으로 수리특성의 변화와 유속의 변화, 토사의 이동 등 하도 내 흐름 특성의 2차원 해석결과를 도출함으로써 하도 내 횡단구조물 설치에 따른 기초적인 자료를 제공하고자 한다. 보 설치로 인한 하천 주변 친수 공간 발달로 인한 여가시설, 이동편의를 위한 도로설치 등 공간조성 설계 시 기초자료로 활용가능 할 것이다. 연구대상 하도구간은 경주 시내를 통과하는 형산강의 남천합류부 2.7km 지점부터 경주시 천북면 모아리에 위치한 모아수위관측소까지 약 8.7km 구간이다. 연구대상 유역인근에 위치한 수위관측소는 경주, 모아 관측소가 있으며 수리해석을 위한 경계조건으로 활용하였다. 연구대상 구간의 상류 부근에 경주 북천이 합류하고 있으며 현재 월령보가 경사 방향으로 설치되어져 있다. 본 연구에서는 상류경계 입력자료 계획홍수량은 형산강하천기본계획보고서(2011)을 참고하였으며, 경주 금장대 부근 합류하는 북천의 계획홍수량은 북천하천기본계획보고서(2011)를 참고하였다. 하류 경계입력자료 계획홍수위도 형산강하천기본계획보고서(2011) 참고하여 2차원 수리특성을 분석하였다. 수문량에 따른 홍수위 변화특성을 분석한 결과 풍수량과 100년 빈도 홍수량에 대해서 직각보 최대수위가 높게 분석되었으며, 유속에 대해 분석한 결과 풍수량과 100년 빈도 홍수량에 대해서 직각보가 경사보보다 물넘이 부분에서 최대유속이 빠르게 분석되었다. 또한 보가 없을 경우와 풍수 시 흐름특성을 분석한 결과 유선방향이 현재의 경사보 방향과 일치하는 것으로 분석된다. 이상의 연구결과를 검토할 때, 직각보 상류에 자전거 교량을 건설할 때 최대 유속이 발생하는 위치에는 교량기초공이나 교각 부분의 보강이 필요할 것으로 판단된다. 둔치 주변 유속변화가 발생할 수 있으므로 수위와 유속을 동시에 고려한 친수시설을 설치할 필요가 있는 것으로 판단된다.

A Study on the Variation of River Vegetation by Seasonal Precipitation Patterns (계절별 강수 패턴에 따른 하천 식생 변화 양상 연구)

  • In Korea, excessive vegetation in rivers made up of sand and gravel is emerging as a nationwide problem, which is attributed to increased spring precipitation and decreased annual precipitation. Therefore, this study was conducted for the purpose of identifying the effect of changes in precipitation patterns on river vegetation in Namcheon, Gyeongju, and analyzing the area of vegetation and ecological characteristics. As a result of the study, the amount of monthly precipitation in the summer of Namcheon decreased after 2007, and the area of vegetation increased continuously compared to the area of the sandbank. The proportion of naturalized plants increased steadily when precipitation continued to a level that did not cause flooding, but the area occupied by naturalized plants was small. Also, when the water level is maintained, the species diversity is low due to the dominance of a single species, and the dominant species was mainly native plants. Dominance of native plants inhibited the growth of naturalized plants, but the vegetation area increased even more. Therefore, it is necessary to manage the spread of vegetation itself rather than the division of native plants and naturalized plants in order to eliminate the active growth and prosperity of river vegetation. High water levels and continuous flooding caused by torrential rains in summer disturbed the plant communities, and vegetation formed afterwards was mainly native plants. Such flooding in river ecosystems is a positive factor for the emergence of native plants and over-formed vegetation communities, so it should be considered when establishing a vegetation management plan.
