  • The purpose of this research was to investigate how the plyometric training and weight training program, applied in the field for exercise performance of throwing players, influenced improvement of athletic abilities, including agility, maximum muscular power, and strength. After implementing plyometric training and weight training to 21 high school throwing players for 10 weeks, we designed the next step. The 21 subjects were divided into two groups - women's group and men's group. All subjects were tested to determine agility using sidestep, burpee test, reaction time, lower body power and strength using standing long jump, standing jump, 30 m running, squats and leg presses. Additionally, isokinetic strength was measured using Cybex isokinetic dynamometer. The results showed that both groups demonstrated improvement in the standing long jump, standing jump and 30 m running after training. Particularly, the women's group indicated better improvement. Second, women's groups showed higher improvement in the sidestep and burpee test. However, in the reaction time test, the men's group indicated better improvement. Third, both groups showed better improvement in squats and leg presses after training. Particularly, the women's group indicated better improvement. Fourth, in the left and right side extension torque and flexion torque at a velocity of $60^{\circ}$/sec, both groups showed better improvement after training. In the left side extension peak torque, the men's group showed higher improvement, but the women's group showed higher improvement in the left side flexion and extension peak torque. Fifth, both groups showed better improvement in bench pressing and back strength after training. Particularly, the women's group indicated higher improvement.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare successful and failed trials of the dean and jerk exercise performed by an 2008 Beijing Olympic gold medalist. One successful and one failed trial of an Olympic gold medalist (2008 Beijing Olympic 77 kg event) were investigated for this study. A three-dimensional motion analysis was performed, using three digital camcorders (SF: 6Hz). The events were recorded during the 89th Korean National Athletic Games. After analyzing the jerk motion, the following results were found. The successful trial revealed a shorter performance time at Phase 1 and a longer one at Phase 3 and Phase 4 as compared to the failed trial. The vertical displacement of the knee in failed trial was lower than that m the successful one. The differences in the vertical velocity of barbell and knee between the trials were seen at Phase 3 and Phase 4. A faster COM inferior velocity was seen in the successful trial at Phase 3. A more flexed knee angle was seen in the failed trial as compared to the successful trial at E3.

  • This study was conducted with 8 male table tennis players who won national competitions. Of the subjects, 4 used a racket of penholder grip and 4 used one of shake hand grip, and all of them were right.handers. We analyzed three-dimensional angular characteristics such as angular component, swing trajectory and swing posture related to the racket swing motions of forehand drive and smash in table tennis, and drew conclusions as follows. Racket angle(p<.05) and racket swing angle(p<.01) were significantly different between the two motions. In smash, the back swing posture maintained the racket angle large by holding the racket upright and made the racket swing angle small for high ball speed. In addition, the height of the racket head in back swing posture was also significantly different between the two motions. In phg on impact, the open angle of the long axis of the racket was significantly different between the two motions. This shows that impact was applied a bit behind for giving top spin to the ball. In the back swing of drive, the gradient of the upper body was slightly larger in shg than in phg probably because of the structural difference of the racket grip in the neutral posture.

  • The purpose of this study were a two-fold: (1) to analyze event and phase of handspring salto forward stretched with turn; (2) to know the differences in the kinematic variables between two groups. A Kwon3D program served for the estimation of this study. The group was divided into three National representative and three well-trained calisthenics in this study. The results of this study revealed that (1) the forward somersault performance was increased when duration time in the air was long during the salto forward stretched that the duration time of Handspring is short, the pressure at takeoff is high, the stride is large, and hands are supporting on the ground quickly; (2) comparing the angular movement of anterior and posterior y axis and vertical z axis, the angular movement of right and left $\times$ axis was higher during the performance. As a result, the national representative players showed better performance in Handspring salto forward stretched with turn.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the muscle activities of pectoralis major, upper serratus, lat dorsi, anterior deltoid, rhomboids, infraspinatus, and posterior deltoid using Noraxon 8 channels EMG system during T-ball swing in children with Down syndrome. Five Down syndrome, one healthy children, and one baseball adult player were participated in the study. Down syndrome's children showed higher muscle activity than one healthy children and one baseball adult player during address to backswing and backswing to impact swing phase. While Down syndrome's children showed lower muscle activity than one healthy children and one baseball adult player during impact to follow swing phase. The strength of the pectoralis major and upper serratus muscle may help to improve T-ball swing movement during impact to follow swing phase.

  • Calcaneal apophysitis is a relatively common disease in young athletes. On the other hand, if not treated properly, it can lead to apophyseal avulsion fracture in rare cases. In the case of apophyseal avulsion fractures, it is often necessary to remove or preserve the bone fragment, which often requires a suture of the Achilles tendon. A 10-year-old badminton athlete visited the outpatients' clinic with pain in both heels from 10 months ago without any trauma history. After conservative therapy, the pain in the left heel was relived but the right heel pain persisted. After 10 months of conservative therapy, the patient visited the outpatients' clinic showing a calcaneal apophyseal avulsion fracture with a total rupture of the Achilles tendon. In the operation room, a bone fragment needed to be removed because of its poor viability and the fragment was too thin for fixation. After removing the bone fragment, the ruptured Achilles tendon was fixed with an anchor system.

  • Fitness of clothes becomes a major concern in apparel industry. But male sports athletes had difficulties to buy ready-made clothes of good fit. Because ready-made clothes manufactured in companies are produced accordingly to the general person's body types. To solve this problem, it is necessary to classify athletes' upper body into several kinds of somatotypes. The purpose of this study was to classify upper body types of male sports athletes based on the analysis of their upper body types and to provide fundamental data on the development of ready-to-wear clothing appropriate for the upper body types. The subjects for anthropometric measurement were 189 male sports athletes of 20 to 29 year-old. The result of factor analysis indicated that 6 factors were extracted from anthropometric measurements through analysis and those factors comprise 73.807% of total variance. 3 clusters were categorized using 6 factor scores by cluster analysis. Type 1 was taller than other types, had average size in circumference, width and thickness and was bending somatotype. Type 2 exhibits a large circumference in the upper body and straight somatotype. Type 3 was characterized by short, exhibits a large circumference in waist, abdomen and hip and swayback somatotype.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the Roche technique performed by three male subjects in 2003 Taegu World Students Game. Conclusions are as followed. If the angular momentum was increased to counter-clockwise on voulting, the momentum acted like an interrupting factor of body spinning force. The biggest body angle was at VTD phase and the smallest was at BTO phase. At the phase of contacting on vaulting board and taking off from the vaulting board, the biggest personal angle difference between VTD and BTO was found. As the Roche technique was needed not only to fly high but also to increase body spinning rate, the projection angles of Roche technique were showed smaller than those of Cuervo technique. The angular velocity was peak during 2 times forward turn phase. The angular momentum was influenced by angular velocity from BTO and VTD phase.
