한국천문연구원은 2009년부터 지구형 외계행성을 검출하기위한 외계행성 탐색시스템(KMTNet: Korea Microlensing Telescope Network) 개발 사업을 수행하고 있다. KMTNet은 칠레, 호주, 남아프리카 공화국에 설치할 광시야 망원경으로 은하 중심부를 24시간 연속관측을 하고 600GB/1일의 관측 자료가 산출된다. 이 발표에서는 KMTNet에 필요한 데이터베이스의 사양을 설명하고 실제 관측 자료를 이용하여 자료 표출 방법 및 최적의 성능을 얻기 위한 실험 결과 등을 제시한다.

현재까지 제3세계 국가들은 주로 미국과 소련의 무기체계를 표본으로 삼아 자국의 전장개념에 맞는 무기체계를 개발해 왔다. 여기에는 전술용 유도탄과 전략용 유도탄이 포함되어 있으나, 앞으로 이들 국가들에서의 유도탄 개발은 상당한 제한을 받게 될 것이다. 그동안 아르헨티나, 브라질, 중국, 이집트, 인도, 이란, 이라크, 이스라엘, 리비아, 북한, 파키스탄, 사우디아라비아, 남아프리카, 시리아, 대만 및 예맨 등과 같은 나라는 자체 연구개발, 해외구매 또는 국제적 연구개발 협력체계를 통해 탄두와 전술탄도탄 체계를 확보해 왔다

보리새우는 보리새우과 보리새우속에 속하는 대형새우로서, 전세계에서 일본, 대만, 필리핀, 베트남, 남아프리카, 케냐 등지의 해역에 분포한다. 우리나라에서는 영일만과 전북연안을 포함한 남해안에 주로 분포하며, 특히 6∼9월에 거제연안을 중심으로 가장 많이 어획되고 있다. 최근 고급 기호식품으로 소비가 점점 증가하고 있는 매우 중요한 수산자원이나, 본종을 어획하는 합법적 어구가 개발되어있지 않다. (중략)

Experimental studies are carried out to find the behavior of sulfur compounds which are evolved during high temperature pyrolysis of coals at the smelting reduction process for iron ore. Three kinds of bituminous coals, such as Hunter & Mt. Thorley (Australia), and Ensham (South Africa) are used. And forms of sulfur compound and their amounts are analyzed at the temperature ranges of 800~110$0^{\circ}C$. Then H$_2$S is the major gas, but CS$_2$ and COS are minor gases. Sulfur compounds in three coals are distributed into the volatiles (gas & tar) and coal char as the ratio of approximately 50%：50%, respectively.

얼굴 인식 성능을 저해하는 환경으로 인한 축구 비디오에서의 낮은 선수 인식률과 제한된 해공간의 문제점을 해결하는 차원에서 본 논문에서는 다음과 같은 특징을 갖는 얼굴 인식 기반의 축구선수 인식 방법론을 제안한다: 1) 조명 변화에 민감하지 않은 얼굴 표현 방법인 ULBP를 사용하여 얼굴 인식 성능을 향상시킨다; 2) 얼굴 인식 성능을 저해하는 다양한 환경에서도 이미 강인한 성능이 검증된 SRC를 선수 식별 과정에 적용함으로써 안정적이고 높은 선수 식별 성능을 보장한다; 3) 클로즈업 샷뿐만 아니라 미디엄 샷의 정면, 준정면, 측면 얼굴 이미지를 대상으로 선수 식별의 해공간을 확장한다; 4) SRC의 점증적 갱신 학습 능력으로 축구 선수 얼굴 데이터베이스의 변화에도 능동적으로 적응한다. 실제 2010년 남아프리카 공화국 월드컵의 스페인 경기를 대상으로 제안된 방법론의 성능을 실험적으로 검증한다.

This essay examines how the figure of Liberty has been refashioned in the streets of post-apartheid South Africa, addressing three public art works installed in Johannesburg over the past decade: Reshada Crouse's oil painting Passive Resistance, Marlene Dumas' tapestry The Benefit of the Doubt and William Kentridge's and Gerhard Marx's sculpture Firewalker. Even as these monumental works all reprise Delacroix's Liberty on the Barricades-an icon of the city street and its revolutionary barricades-so too this trio of Liberties have become mere phantoms of their vaunted archetype. Haunted specters, they quarrel with the mythologized chimera of Liberty, taking issue with the fraught tradition of pinning regime change onto the body of the female nude. Drawing instead on South African histories of women's resistance, in which female nudity has been repeatedly marshaled as a form of dissent, the Liberties circling Johannesburg hybridize their European template with local traditions of female political opposition to colonial and postcolonial male authority.

본 논문에서는 장기간 축적된 대용량의 축구 비디오 데이터를 데이터 마트로 저장하고, 이를 이용하여 다차원의 고수준 분석이 가능한 멀티미디어 데이터 기반의 데이터 큐브 시스템인 Soccer Cube의 프로토타입을 설계 및 구현한다. 이로써 축구 전략가들은 본인이 분석하고자 하는 관점에 따라 해당 차원들을 선택하고, 각 차원들의 추상화 정도를 조절함으로써 축구 비디오에 대한 고수준의 분석이 가능하다. 실제 2010년 남아프리카 공화국 월드컵의 스페인 팀을 대상으로 Soccer Cube 시스템을 구축한 후, OLAP 연산의 사례 연구를 통하여 다양한 분석이 가능함과 함께 그 실효성을 검증한다.

한국천문연구원에서 개발 중인 외계행성 탐색시스템(Korea Microlensing Telescope Network, KMTNet)은 칠레, 남아프리카 공화국 및 호주에 3대의 동일한 사양을 갖는 1.6m 광시야 망원경과 $18K{\times}18K$ 모자이크 CCD 카메라를 설치하여 우리은하 중심방향에 대한 24시간 측광 모니터링을 통해 외계행성을 발견하는 것을 주된 연구목표로 가지고 있다. 특히 3개 관측소 중 가장 좋은 시상조건을 갖는 칠레 관측소의 경우에는 하룻밤에 최대 200GB의 관측 자료를 생산하고, 관측된 영상을 관측 다음날 네트워크를 통하여 모두 한국으로 가져온 후 일괄 자료처리과정을 거쳐 측광자료로 변환할 계획이다. 이에 우리는 효율적인 자료처리를 위해 관측영상을 특정 크기로 자르고 클러스터 시스템을 이용하여 분산 처리할 수 있는 파이프라인을 개발하였다. 이 발표에서는 우리가 구현한 KMTNet 자료처리 파이프라인의 전반적인 구성과 모의 관측 자료를 이용한 성능시험 결과 및 향후 영상자료의 증가에 따른 저장장치와 클러스터 시스템의 확장 계획에 대해 소개한다.

This study examines the ways District 9, a film released in 2009, reworks the sci-fi genre to explore the human encounter with "other" alien populations. Like Avatar, released in the same year, District 9 addresses the tropes of conflict over land and human-alien hybridity and introduces non-humans and aliens, not as invaders, but as objects of human oppression and cruelty. Unlike many other science fiction films where the encounter between humans and non-humans occurs in an unidentifiable future time and location, District 9 crosses genre barriers to engage with urban realism, producing a social critique of contemporary urban population problems. The arrival of aliens in District 9 occurs as part of the recorded human past and the film's action is carried out in the present time in the specifically identified city of Johannesburg. A distinctly anti-Hollywood film that locates the action at the street level, District 9 plays out human anxieties about contact with others by referencing the divisions and conflicts historically attached to South Africa's sprawling metropolis and its current problems of urban poverty and illegal immigrants. Focusing on how this particular urban setting frames the film, the study investigates the ways Blomkamp's sci-fi film about extra-terrestrials presents a curious postcolonial mix of aliens and immigrants surviving in abject conditions in an urban slum and forces a realistic examination of the contemporary social problems faced by South Africa's largest city and by extension other major global cities. The paper also examines the film's representation of the human-alien hybrid and its potential as a force to resist human exploitation of the other. It also claims that though the setting is highly local, District 9 speaks to a wider global audience by making obvious the exploitative practices of profit-seeking multinationals. A sci-fi film that is keen on making a social commentary on urban population conflicts, District 9 resonates with the wider sense of insecurity and fear of others that form the horizon of the uncertain and potentially violent contemporary human world.
