Understanding the relation between basic science and applied science is important for students in understanding the importance of learning science, the relationship between scientific knowledge and human life, and for enhancing their science motivation. In this study, we evaluated the statistical validity of this hypothetical model and explored the effect of gender and students' preferred courses (e.g., humanities, science, and art) on four dependent variables. We also evaluated the differences of students' understanding across scientific domains and students' understanding concerning basic and applied scientific knowledge. Three hundred and twenty five 10th grade students participated in this survey research. Statistically, we employed bivariate correlation, partial correlation, path analysis, two-way ANOVA, and repeated measures ANOVA. Our findings illustrated that our hypothetical model was statistically valid. In addition, the significant interaction effects of gender and students' preferred courses on each dependent variable were shown. Students have different levels of understanding of the convergence of basic and applied science, the relation between scientific knowledge and human life, and the importance of learning science across scientific domains (e.g., physics, chemistry, earth science and biology).

The purpose of this study was to compare the color of maxillary primary central incisors, lateral incisors, canines with the color of various composite resins using a spectrophotometer VITA Easyshade®V. One researcher measured the color of sound maxillary primary anterior teeth of 100 children aged 1 to 6 and specimens which were made by composite resins with a total of 10 types and 31 shades, and CIE L*, a*, b* values were obtained. There was no clinically recognizable color difference between the maxillary primary central and lateral incisors. However, the maxillary primary canines showed difference in color above the clinical acceptability threshold with the primary central and lateral incisors. These findings showed no significant color differences between men and women, and no significant color changes with age. A1 shade is the most common in all maxillary primary anterior teeth. Composite resins, which are thought to be similar to the color of maxillary primary anterior teeth were selected from 9 types of maxillary primary central incisors, 6 types of primary lateral incisors, 6 types of primary canines.

This study investigated the effects of varying visuals in drawing and writing as methods to assist students in connecting and integrating multiple external representations provided in learning the particulate nature of matter. Seventh graders (N=233) at a coed middle school were assigned to control, static drawing (SO), dynamic drawing (DD), static writing (SW), and dynamic writing (DW) groups. The students were taught about "Boyle's Law" and "Charles's Law" for two class periods. Two-way ANCOVA results revealed that the scores of a conception test for the two drawing (SD, DD) groups and the two writing (SW, DW) groups were significantly higher than those for the control group. Within the writing groups, students of lower spatial visualization ability in the DW group scored significantly higher than those in the SW group. However, no significant differences were found in the scores of the conception test for the two drawing (SD, DD) groups regardless of students' visualization ability. Researchers also found that most students in both DD and DW groups had respectively positive perceptions of dynamic visuals in drawing or writing.
This study analyzed plans for retirement by focusing on preferred retirement timing(PRT) measure. Current pension program show rather strong guideline about the timing of full-retirement. This study asked whether the middle age group are willing to retire correspond to the policy guidelines or not. Research sample came from 2008 KLOSA data, recruiting 1,367 workers who are residing in cities or in metropolitan area (women: 34.8%). I have analyzed one item question asking "In what age do you want to fully retire?", The results showed that, about two third of respondents declared they do not want to retire unless they have health problems, or would expect to retire no earlier than age 70. However, a third of respondents expected normal retirement coming between 60~64. Second, the determinants of timing for retirement were differ by PRT. Social determinants, such as gender, short work hours, being employed, and higher status in family income were associated with early PRT. While, good health status, positive view on the future economics were highly associated with late PRT. The results reveal that the timing of retirement is getting more diverse and obscure in the individual level.
This paper aims at figuring out specific characteristics of affective attitude of gifted and talented in information, predicting follow-up activities and desirable direction of learning. Based on the analysis of this paper as educational directions and suggestions for elementary gifted and talented students in information are as follows: First, in gender ratio of gifted and talented in information, including the fact that ratio of boys is high, there remain the previous prejudice of higher information capability and it seems that girls who depend on external factors, parents and teachers should make more efforts to help girls trust their own capability in information science and lead them to give more value to attribution of efforts for achievement in information science. Second, as grade is higher, motivation to learn information science and attitude for success in information science among sub-elements of attitude to information science, motivation to seed positive recognition to higher graders is required. Third, in screening and selecting gifted and talented students in information, attitude to information science should be considered as main cause and the existing gifted and talented students in information should be prompted to improve their attitude to information science with value on effort for information science.
This study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of constipation, bowel habits and nutrient intakes of college students. The subjects were 353 college students (166 males and 187 females) aged 19 to 29 years in Incheon area. The subjects were asked about bowel habits and dietary intake using questionnaires during march, 2008 and the prevalence of functional constipation (FC) was based on the Rome II criteria. The prevalence of FC in male and female students was 12.7% and 28.9%, respectively. The prevalence of self-reported constipation in male and female students was 12.0% and 36.9%, respectively. Both were higher in female students compared to male students. Among the subjects that have self-reported constipation, proportions of FC were 35.0% in male students and 55.1% in female students. Of subjects that did not self-reported constipation, the proportions of FC were 9.6% in male students and 13.6% in female students. Over 90% of respondents that self-reported constipation in male students, had neither visited a hospital and nor used laxatives or functional foods for constipation relief. Seventy five point three percent of male students, and 40.1% of female students, had a defecation frequency of over 5 times per week (p < 0.001). Ratios intaken under the estimated average requirement (EAR) of Vit A, Vit C, folic acid and Ca were over the 50% regardless of functional constipation. Mean daily consumption of total dietary fiber was 15.0 g/day in male students and 13.5 g/day in female students. According to these results, both functional constipation and self-reported constipation are more frequent in female college students and further studies are required in case-control study and related to psychological factors as well as nutrients to relieve of constipation.
In this study, a survey was conducted to determine consumer perceptions and satisfaction for onion hot-water extracts. Among the study subjects, females (53.3%) were in greater number than males, and individuals in their 40s (35.1%) made up the largest group. Cocerning the detailed efficacy of onion hot-water extracts, most respondents (84.5%) were aware of their efficacy and females recognized this more than males (p<0.001). Most consumers (67.3%) purchased onion hot-water extracts from 'health food stores prepared using a double boiler', and many consumers (47.4%) received information on the extracts from families and relatives. Of the respondents, 51.8% said they purchased 'quantities for $1{\sim}3$ months' at one time, and 33.1% stated that the price of onion hot-water extracts was expensive. They considered 'health' the most important aspect when purchasing, and preferred 'pouch packs' (60.3%) and considered 'easiness to open convenience to drink, and safety' (42.0%) the most important product features. Also, 62.8% of the respondents consumed onion hot-water extracts, and many drank them $1{\sim}3$ times a week, with '70 mL' as one dose, and drank them 'regardless of time'. The consumers were satisfied with the listing of health effects, but were not satisfied with the 'taste', 'smell', or 'color' of products. Concerning advertisements for the efficacy of onion hot-water extracts, 72.5% replied 'I trust them a little'. And concerning the expanding onion hot-water extract market, many respondents said it is difficult to choose an onion hot-water extract due to many similar products at the market. They also requested improvements of taste and flavor.

This study was conducted to examine the awareness of workers in public institutions of automated external defibrillators, their usage intention and related educational experience in an effort to increase the efficiency of education and the rate of automated external defibrillator usage in emergency situations. The subjects in this study were 243 selected. male and female adults who worked in public institutions in Gangwon Province. A survey was conducted from June 13 to August 21, 2016. The statistical analysis was based on the frequency analysis and the $X^2$-test. There were significant differences among the public institution workers awareness of how to use an automated external defibrillator according to gender (${\chi}^2=6.32$, p<0.05) and academic credentials (${\chi}^2=5.91$, p<0.05). Additionally, there were significant differences in usage intention according to academic background (${\chi}^2=5.70$, p<0.05). The most common reason for having no intention to use an automated external defibrillator for patients with cardiac arrest was that the respondents did not know how to use it (31.5%). There were also significant differences in educational experience with automated external defibrillators according to age (${\chi}^2=6.15$, p<0.05), academic credentials (${\chi}^2=11.56$, p<0.01) and career (${\chi}^2=11.92$, p<0.01). The most common form of education that the workers received pertaining to automated external defibrillators was a combination of theoretical and practical education, which represented 55.9%. The findings of the study seem to suggest that workers in public institutions used by many people must receive compulsory standard education regarding automated external defibrillators and try to boost the revival rate of patients with cardiac arrest in real emergency situations.

Objectives: The purpose of this article was to evaluate the health related quality of life (HRQoL) of cancer survivors and to identify its predictors according to gender. Methods: The research was conducted with the data for 203 (cancer survivors?) taken from the 6th wave of the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the EQ-5D index score was used for the measurement of the health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The independent variables inluded socio-demographic data, health related factors (survival duration, disability, subjective health recognition), and psychosocial factors (stress, unmet medical needs). The data were analyzed by the t-test, ANOVA, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Results: the HRQoL of the female cancer survivors was significantly worse than that of the males in terms of their mobility, usual activities, pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression quality of life. The only statistically significant factor affecting the HRQoL of the male cancer survivors was their subjective health recognition. In the case of the female cancer survivors, the statistically significant factors were their age, subjective health recognition and unmet medical needs. Conclusions: the results of this study showed a different pattern of predictors according to the gender of the cancer survivors. Therefore, gender should be considered when assessing and addressing the individual care needs of cancer survivors, in order to obtain optimal treatment outcomes.
