This paper deals with an analytical study on the aileron reversal characteristics of anisotropic composite aircraft wings modelled as thin-walled beam and having bending-torsion structural couplings caused by Circumferentially Asymmetric Stiffness layup scheme. For a study on the aileron reversal of CAS composite wings, it is essential to consider the following effects such as warping restraint, transverse shear flexibility, bending-twist structural coupling, wing aspect ratio, ratio of span-wise and chord-wise length of aileron to wing, and sweep angle, etc. The results on the aileron reversal could have a significant role in more efficient designs of thin-walled composite wing aircraft for which this aeroelastic instability is one of the most critical ones.
Wing and secondary cracks are unique types of cracks observed in rock masses subjected to uniaxial and biaxial compressive loading conditions. In this study, morphological features of wing and secondary cracks developed in gypsum specimens are investigated in the macro and micro scales. Along the path of wing crack, microtensile cracks are observed. Microtensile cracks coalesce with pores and show branch phenomenon. From the onset of the wing crack, multiple initiations of microtensile cracks are observed. Microtensile cracks show tortuous propagation paths and relatively constant aperture of the cracks during the propagation. It is shown that microtensile cracks propagate by splitting failure. At the micro scale, microfsults are observed in the path of the secondary cracks. Along the path of the secondary cracks, separation of grains and conglomerate grains, oblique microfaults, and irregular aperture of microfault are observed. These features show that the secondary cracks are produced in shear mode. The measured sizes of fracture process zone across the propagation direction near the tip of wing and secondary cracks range from 10$\mu{m}$ to 20$\mu{m}$ far wing cracks and from 100$\mu{m}$ to 200$\mu{m}$ for secondary cracks, respectively.
This paper deals with an analytical study on the aileron reversal characteristics of anisotropic composite aircraft wings modelled as thin-walled beam and having extension-twist structural couplings caused by Circumferentially Uniform Stiffness (CUS) layup scheme. For a study on the aileron reversal of CUS composite wings, it is essential to consider the following effects such as extension-twist structural coupling, wing aspect ratio, and ratio of span-wise and chord-wise length of aileron to wing, initial angle of attack, and sweep angle, etc. The results on the aileron reversal could have a significant role in more efficient designs of thin-walled composite wing aircraft for which this aeroelastic instability is one of the most critical ones.

Mathematical modeling and vibration control of a tiltrotor aircraft composite wing-rotor system are investigated in this study. A wing-mounted rotor can be tilted from the vertical position to a horizontal one, and vice versa. Effect of vibration control of the wing-rotor system via piezoelectricity is studied as a function of tilt angle, ply angle of composite wing and rotor's spin speed. Composite wing is modeled as a thin-walled box beam having a circumferentially uniform stiffness configuration that produces elastic coupling between flap-lag and between extension-twist behavior. Numerical simulations are provided and pertinent conclusions are outlined.

A circular composite spar in the wing of ultra-light aircraft is subjected to both bending moment and transverse shear loads. However, the beam being used in the aircraft may be inefficient because the design would not take into account the characteristics of the circular tube that supports the bending moment in top and bottom arc parts and the transverse load in left and right ones. Therefore, it is necessary to efficiently fabricate the circular tube beam by properly selecting the stacking sequences or the laminated composite structure. In order to increase both bending and transverse shear strengths of the beams, in this study, a cross-section of circular tube is divided into four arcs: top, bottom, left and right ones. The commercial program, MSC/NASTRAN is used to calculate vertical displacement and the normal and shear strains with variation of parameters such as division angle of arc and fiber orientation. Based on the results, the effective parameters for the new circular composite beam are presented to increase its bending and shear strengths.
A cosmopterigid species, Alloclita mongolica Sinev is reported for the first time from Korea. This is the first record of the genus Alloclita Staudinger for the Korean fauna and the southernmost records of A. mongolica. The collecting data of the species in Korea suggest a habitat association of A. mongolica with coastal sand-dunes. The features of external appearance and male genitalia are described and illustrated for this rare species.
The differences in the electron microscopic fine structures of the wing imaginal discs of the vestigial (vg), wing mutant and wild type of Drosophila melanogaster were investigated. The materials used in this study were collected at ten hours intervals from the late third instar larvae of the both stocks. The fine structural changes during differentiation were as follows: 1. In wild type lipid droplets were coalesced and converted to glycogen, while no changes were observed in the mutatn vestigial. 2. Degeneration of the cells by phagocytosis were observed not only from the mutatn vestigial, but from the wild type. However, degenerative feature of the wild type was poor. 3. Dented structures of tracheole showed little differences between wild type and the mutant vestigial. But the tracheole diameter of the wild type became wider in the course of differentiation, while the mutant vestigial narrow. Although mutant vestigial develops normally during early embryogenesis, the late third instar larvae shows defficiency in gluconeogenesis, converting fatty acid to glycogen. This, together with the predominant cell degeneration by phagocytosis and poorly developed tracheole, seems to effect on the expression of the vestigial phenotype.

This paper describes the procedure to analyze the performance of the end-plated propeller(EPP) by a boundary integral method. The screw blade(SB) and end-plate(EP) are represented by a set of quadrilateral panels, where the source and normal dipole of uniform strength are distributed. The perturbation velocity potential, being the only unknown via the potential-based formulation, is determined by satisfying the flow tangency condition on the blade and the end-plate at the same time. The Kutta condition is satisfied through an iterative process by requiring the null pressure jump across the upper and lower sides of the trailing edges of both the SH and the EP. Sample calculations indicate that the EP increases the loading near the tip of the SB while spreading the trailing vortices along the trailing edge of the EP, thus avoiding the strong tip-vortex formation. Predicted performance of the EPP shows good correlations with the experimental results. The method is therefore considered applicable in designing and analyzing the EPP which may be an alternative for energy-saving propulsive devices.

A lot of structures built since 1988 do not have efficient seismic design. Current buildings have complex shaped walls where the wing wall system is a popular option. When the wing wall is attached to a column, or a short span is produced due to the wing wall system, the system affects the behaviour of the column such as by increasing the strength and decreasing the ductility of the members. These members affect the structural behaviour of the columns and destruction aspect as the investigation on the damage of the previous earthquakes indicates. To prevent such case, current design installs structural silt on the wing wall to consider the columns and insulating so that it does not affect the internal forces. Calculations for internal shear force and internal bending moment of the vertical members are considered an important matter in design, but currently Korea does not have any studies on the effects of the wing wall on the columns.
