  • Purpose: With the implementation of the Act on Life Sustaining Treatment, hospice-palliative care will be extended to non-cancer diseases including the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). However, there are concerns about negative perceptions and prejudice toward AIDS patients. The purpose of this study was to investigate factors related with willingness to volunteer (WV) for patients with end-stage AIDS among hospice volunteers. Methods: Participants were 326 hospice volunteers from 19 institutions. A self-administered questionnaire was employed to investigate the participants' WV for end-stage AIDS patients, and the questions were answered using an 11-point rating scale. Demographics, volunteer activity, satisfaction with hospice volunteering, knowledge of AIDS, and attitudes towards AIDS patients (i.e., fear AIDS patients, negative attitude towards AIDS patients, personal stigmatization and stigmatizing attitude) were also investigated. A multiple regression analysis was performed to examine factors associated with WV for patients with end-stage AIDS. Results: WV for patients with end-stage AIDS was 2.82 points lower than that for cancer patients (P<0.001). The multiple regression analysis showed that the higher the level of satisfaction with hospice volunteering (P=0.002) and the lower the level of "personal stigmatization" (P<0.001), participants showed greater WV for end-stage AIDS patients. Conclusion: The level of satisfaction with hospice volunteering and "personal stigmatization" were factors associated with participants' WV for patients with end-stage AIDS.

For the purpose of the reason the data were collected from 108 SWD from questionaries in Busan city and Kyungnam province. The results were as follows. It was revealed that the factors, grade and gender, had significant difference in the level of adjusting campus life of SWD. Perceived stigma and depression of SWD had positive impact on the adjustment of campus life. Social support of SWD also had positive impact on the adjustment of campus life. This study demonstrated that social support of SWD had moderating effect in the relationship between perceived stigma, depression of SWD and their adjustment of campus life. This study verified that for the purpose of improving the adjusting level in college life of SWD, it was as important to make social support to be delivered at SWD as decreasing the perceived stigma and depression of SWD. Finally, the authors suggested some direction to solve the problem related this study question and remarked the limitation of this study.

  • In order to examine the relationship of fruit abscission and ethylene evolution in 'Jojuro' and 'Imamuraaki' pear trees, the thinning chemicals, ${\beta}$-naphthalene acetic acid (NAA), O, O-dimethyl-O-(3-methyl-4 nitrophenyl) posphorothioate (MEP), 1-naphthyl N-methyl carbamate (carbaryl), and 2-chloroethyl phosphonic acid (ethephon) were applied. Concurrently the effect of calcium acetate on the control of fruit abscission were examined when calcium acetate was added to ethephon and carbaryl. 1. All the applied chemicals (MEP, NAA, carbaryl and ethephon) was effective to abscise fruits in 'Jojuro', and MEP and carbaryl in 'Imamuraaki's. 2. The application of ethephon increased the ethylene evolution but other chemicals did not increase it. 3. There were no significant differences in total sugar contents of fruits by MEP, NAA, carbaryl and ethephon treatments. 4. When the calcium acetate was added to the ethephon and carbaryl, the thinning effects were offsetted. 5. The rate of defoliation due to ethephon treatment was controlled by addition of calcium acetate at 0.1~0.25 M. It was clarified that fruit abscission induced by thinning chemicals except ethephon was not directly related to ethylene production and that degree of fruit thinning can be regulated by addition of calcium acetate to thinning chemicals.

The stigma of Alcohol use disorder (52.8%) is highest and the stigma of Schizophrenia (47.2%) is the second highest (p<0.001). Conclusions : The education and overcoming the stigma in Mental health is needed in Schizophrenia and Alcohol Use Disorder.
