  • The main purposes of this study are to find the causality among residents' loyalty to an environmental festival and its influential factors and, based upon the findings, to explore environmental festivals' developmental vision with special reference to Hampyung Butterfly Festival. Under these aims, this study applies structural equation modeling(SEM). The structural model for SEM analysis is composed of four independent variables which consist of residents' attachment(RA) to their region where its own environmental festival is provided, residents' participational intention(RP) to the festival, the economic effects(EE) of the festival, and the communication(CM) between the residents and the festival providers, one intermediate variable, residents' satisfaction(RS) from the festival, and one final dependent variable, residents' loyalty(RL) to the festival. The causality among these variables is hypothesized as follows; Among the independent variables, RP, EE, and CM have effects only on RS and RA has an effect on both RS and RL. And RS has an effect on RL. The facts found from the SEM are summed up as follows; First, (1) RP and CM turn out to have statistically significant effects on RS, (2) RA is confirmed to have a statistically very significant effect on both RS and RL, and (3) RS is also proved to show a statistically very significant effect on RL. Second, the total effects on RL of independent variables are stronger in the order of RA, CM, and RP. Third, EE seems to have no effect on RS, consequently no effect on RL, either. The reason why EE has no effect looks like to be due to environmental festivals' peculiar features. These findings offer the following suggestions for the future of environmental festivals in the part of festival providers. Firstly, to be successful in the festival, they have to provoke RL above all. Second, to do so, they need to encourage RA, CM, and RP in the mentioned order in the long run. Third, but for a short period, they had better concentrate upon promoting RS.

To assess the local foods and restaurants, we investigated the principal products, inclination for sightseeing and recognition of the "Butterfly festival" by distributing questionnaires to local restaurant operators, employees and general tourists. The result was as follows: 1. The general tourists chose scenery as the most important factor in a sightseeing tour, followed by food, lodging, and transportation. 2. The tourists enjoyed eating native local foods, and they indicated that the taste was important. 3. Regarding the cost of food, 53.6% of the respondents answer that 10 to 20 thousand won was a resonable price, and they also reported wanting to eat seafood in Hampyeong. Thus the Menu of seafood to be served at the Hampyeong festival needs to be developed first followed by that of the healthy food. • Local festival in Korea has developed quantitatively as well qualitatively. Driving force of local festival's development is local governments' active supports. Many Local government support local festival opening actively to accomplish economic activation. Activation of local festivals is good chance to local start-up companies. Local start-up companies don't have well known brand, and wide distribution network. But they can sell their products to visitors in local festival. And if fortune smiles upon them, they can get big buyers in local festivals. If so, what factors can contribute to a increase sales of local start-up companies? Different from existing research that focus on tour industrial outcome, we will focus on effect of festival service quality on increase sales. The survey is using structured questionnaire, we surveyed visitors who visit local start-up companies' booth in festival site. According to survey result, first, each dimensions of festival service quality do not effect on purchase intention directly except empathy dimension. Second, each dimensions of festival service quality effect on purchase intention by a medium of local image indirectly except assurance dimension. And purchase intention have a great effect on purchase action. Through the results, we can confirm festival service quality effect on purchase intention by a medium of local image indirectly. we suggest that improving festival service quality can effect on sales increase of local start-up companies, and for the purpose of sales increase, local government must improve local image at first.

  • This study makes an attempt to appraise how much successful both (Ham-Pyung) Butterfly Festival and (Mu-Ju) Firefly Festival are in the view point of ecology-friendly effects, and based on this appraisal, searches for desirable and developmental directions of other eco-festivals. The empirical analysis of the study shows that even if the Butterfly Festival turns out to be more famous than the Firefly Festival, the latter is confirmed to be more eco-friendly than the former. The fact that the latter is more eco-friendly seems to be due to the fact that the subject matter, that is the theme, of the festival is the fireflies which are not only natural monuments but also peculiar in-site-resources specific to Mu-Ju. This fact suggests that the other eco-festivals, newly emerging ones in particular, need to find and designate in-site-resources inherent in their regions as the theme, as far as possible.
