  • In this study, we studied methods of communication among audiences, artwork and artist and analyzed interactive media art using the nonverbal communication methods. We analyzed the 4 types of nonverbal communication based on sign and meaning[1] and reclassified suitably for analysis of interactive media art. According to the analysis result, we draw typical characters by analyzing interactive media artwork which were corresponding to the each types. Also we analyzed overlap area and classify. Through these processes, we found communication methods in interactive media artwork connect audiences and artwork by organic combination of several nonverbal communication. In this paper, we suggest a new approach about the communication among audiences, artwork and artist through analyzing interactive media art using nonverbal communication.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the faceted classification scheme as a new classification scheme for 1,136 records (1950-1979) collected from UNESCO which are related to Korea. After extracting 1,601 nouns from the titles and index terms of the 1,136 records, they were classified and categorized based on the temporarily set fundamental categories. Through repeated classification and categorization, the last category names were derived as facets. As a result, the faceted classification scheme for Korea related records are structured into 10 basic facets and 38 sub-facets.

  • Recently, information on international trade goes on increasing in quantity because of the globalism and many related areas of the field. Most of libraries and informatin centers in Korea are using Dewey Decimal Classification(DDC), Library of congress Classification(LCC), and Korean Decimal Classification(KDC) to classify library materials on the subject. The application of three classification shcemes, DDC, LCC, and KDC were queried to determine the classification of materials on international trade. And analyses of the parts of international trade in three classification shemes were done in order to identify what major changes have made with the development of the field. There was subject scatter in DDC and LCC; there was an overlap among the classes of the three systems; and there was little change between present editions and the previous editions. The revision for international trade field of the KDC, the 4t edtition was suggested to help cover some deficiencies of the classification scheme. Inorder to develop a better KDC, the 5th edition, continuous revisions based upon the opinions of subject specialists and catalogers in the field are highly recommended.

  • In order to obtain the data for extreme food intake by Koream adults, the data of adult dietary survey undertaken in 1995 were used through statistical treatment, taking into account of dietary habits. Various food commodities amounting to 159 items were classified into 14 food groups and fractiles of 90th and 95th percentile of individual food items were computed on the assumption that the food consumption pattern exhibits a normal distribution. Most of the food items showed the ratio of fractiles to mean intake in the range of 2.0∼3.0 while the ratio greatly deviated from these values in items such as seasonings, spices, nuts, seeds and favorite beverages as well as most commonly-eaten or rarely-eaten foods.

  • This paper presents the comparison of four methods, linear, quadratic, canonical and non-parametric discriminant analyses to discriminate the consumers' taste grade with sensory variables, such as tenderness, juiciness, flavor, and overall acceptability based on Consumer Sensory Survey. The classification ability of each method is measured and compared by the resubstitution error rate.

  • This study investigated Korean diaspora literature with the bilingual feature, which was published in a local language other than Korean, focusing on literature classification status in domestic library's materials. As a result of the investigation, domestic universities and public libraries that owned the diaspora literature materials were classifying the original work by the languages or focusing on the author's work. Nowadays, the Literature classification codes of KDC have on the language of the original work but no code on the author. Nevertheless, domestic libraries were classifying diaspora literature works by the author, not by the language of the original work, so that the same author's works were gathered in one place. This study proposes an option to classify "Korean national literature" that covers Korean diaspora literature and Korean literature into 810 of KDC to resolve the confusion in the classification of Korean diaspora literature. However, this option is a trial proposal for libraries with special needs for Korean diaspora literature classification, and further investigation and research will be necessary to apply this option.

  • This paper is intended to comparatively analyzed the KDC/NDC/DDC classification system for the field of civil engineering, the research field classification system of National Research Foundation of Korea, and the science and technology research field classification system of Korea Science and Engineering Foundation. And based on the analysis, it tried to propose the ways of improving the KDC classification system for the civil engineering field. As a result of the analysis, this paper has found that the KDC 5th-edition for the civil engineering field needed some corrections. That is, the classification items that reflect the trend of academic development should be added, the classification terminology of the basic theories of civil engineering should be properly developed, segmented topics should be added, any errors in classification codes and Korean/English descriptions should be corrected, and the omission of the KDC relative index of classification items should be solved. This paper proposed the ways of improving those problems.

  • Fiction is a collection that most students read and borrow in school libraries. KDC has several limitations when students look for fiction books they need. In line with this, we surveyed various cases of fiction classifications used in libraries, bookstores, and publishers and use behaviors of fiction of middle school students. Based upon the result of the surveys, we proposed a better way of classifying fiction books according to user needs. In addition to the KDC number, color bands were attached according to genres so that users could easily find the desired books. These suggestions and other information will enhance the accessibility and discoverability to fiction books for middle school students and may be used as reference materials for fiction classification in libraries, bookstores, and publishers in the future.
