  • This paper proposes a novel method that reconstructs a surfel-based object by using visual hull from multiple images. The surfel is a point primitive that effectively approximates point-set surface. We create the surfel representation of an object from images by combining the LDC(Layered Depth Cube) surfel sampling with the concept of visual hull that represents the approximated shape from input images. Because the surfel representation requires relatively smaller memory resources than the polygonal one and its LDC resolution is freely changed, we can control the reconstruction quality of the target object and acquire the maximal quality on the given memory resource.

  • In this paper, two reconstructed point cloud sets with the information of 3D features are analyzed. For a certain 3D reconstruction of the interior of a building, the first image set is taken from the sequential passive camera movement along the regular grid path and the second set is from the application of the laser scanning process. Matched key points over all images are obtained by the SIFT(Scale Invariant Feature Transformation) algorithm and are used for the registration of the point cloud data. The obtained results are point cloud number, average density of point cloud and the generating time for point cloud. Experimental results show the necessity of images from the additional sensors as well as the images from the camera for the more accurate 3D reconstruction of the interior of a building.

  • In this paper, we propose a semi-automatic 3D building reconstruction method using uncalibrated images which includes the facade of target building. First, we extract feature points in all images and find corresponding points between each pair of images. Second, we extract lines on each image and estimate the vanishing points. Extracted lines are grouped with respect to their corresponding vanishing points. The adjacency graph is used to organize the image sequence based on the number of corresponding points between image pairs and camera calibration is performed. The initial solid model can be generated by some user interactions using grouped lines and camera pose information. From initial solid model, a detailed building model is reconstructed by a combination of predefined basic Euler operators on half-edge data structure. Automatically computed geometric information is visualized to help user's interaction during the detail modeling process. The proposed system allow the user to get a 3D building model with less user interaction by augmenting various automatically generated geometric information.

  • In this paper a method of reconstructing a desired image through the geometrical transformation and the interpolation techniques is presented by comparing different interpolation schemes. Several different interpolation schemes are compared with respect to the amount of error that is the difference between the original and the reverse-projective transformed images. Higher ordered B-spline interpolation turned to be superior to other techniques in reconstructing the image which is desired to be close to the unskewed image as much as possible. In the results, this paper demonstrates that the reverse projection using the higher ordered B-spline interpolation is superior to those conventional interpolation methods, linear, cubic spline for reconstructing image. In experiments, the error decreases as the order of B-spline increases. The proposed technique is useful for various practical and theoretical applications in the area of satellite, medical, and commercial image processing.

  • It is important to identify geometries of fracture that act as a conduit of fluid flow for characterization of ground water flow in fractured rock. Fracture geometries control hydraulic conductivity and stream lines in a rock mass. However, we have difficulties to acquire whole geometric data of fractures in a field scale because of discontinuous distribution of outcrops and impossibility of continuous collecting of subsurface data. Therefore, it is needed to develop a method to describe whole feature of a target fracture geometry. This study suggests a new approach to develop a method to characterize on the whole feature of a target fracture geometry based on the Fourier transform. After sampling of specimens along a target fracture from borehole cores, effective frequencies among roughness components were selected by the Fourier transform on each specimen. Then, the selected effective frequencies were averaged on each frequency. Because the averaged spectrum includes all the frequency profiles of each specimen, it shows the representative components of the fracture roughness of the target fracture. The inverse Fourier transform is conducted to reconstruct an averaged whole roughness feature after low pass filtering. The reconstructed roughness feature also shows the representative roughness of the target subsurface fracture including the geometrical characteristics of each specimen. It also means that overall roughness feature by scaling up of a fracture. In order to identify the characteristics of permeability coefficients along the target fracture, fracture models were constructed based on the reconstructed roughness feature. The computation of permeability coefficient was performed by the homogenization analysis that can calculate accurate permeability coefficients with full consideration of fracture geometry. The results show a range between $10^{-4}{\;}and{\;}10^{-3}{\;}cm/sec$, indicating reasonable values of permeability coefficient along a large fracture. This approach will be effectively applied to the analysis of permeability characteristics along a large fracture as well as identification of the whole feature of a fracture in a field scale.

  • The lighting reflection is a common problem in image analysis and causes the many difficulties to extract distinct features in related fields. Furthermore, the problem grows in the rainy night. In this paper, we aim to remove light reflection effects and reconstruct a road surface without lighting reflections in order to extract distinct features. The proposed method utilizes a 3D analysis based on a multiple geometry using captured images, with which we can combine each reflected areas; that is, we can remove lighting reflection effects and reconstruct the surface. At first, the regions of lighting sources and reflected surfaces are extracted by local maxima based on vertically projected intensity-histograms. After that, a fundamental matrix and homography matrix among multiple images are calculated by corresponding points in each image. Finally, we combine each surface by selecting minimum value among multiple images and replace it on a target image. The proposed method can reduces lighting reflection effects and the property on the surface is not lost. While the experimental results with collected data shows plausible performance comparing to the speed, reflection-overlapping areas which can not be reconstructed remain in the result. In order to solve this problem, a new reflection model needs to be constructed.

  • This paper presents an analysis technique for estimating the properties of a target's power-spill patterns observed in reconstructed SAR images, which in turn depend on the setup squint angle of the FMCW signal-based SAR system. The target responses observed in the reconstructed SAR images were affected by the range-direction and azimuth-direction of a wave projected on the ground, and the obtained results were analyzed by applying three-dimensional squinted SAR geometry. Furthermore, the rotation patterns were verified through simulations based on the FMCW signal model and back-projection algorithm. This paper summarizes the obtained evaluation results as a function of SAR geometry and squint angle.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to reconstruct accurate 3D shape object by using multi-view images which are disturbed by motion blur. In multi-view deblurring, more precise PSF estimation can be done by using the geometric relationship between multi-view images. The proposed method first estimates initial 2D PSFs from individual input images. Then 3D PSF candidates are projected on the input images one by one to find the best one which are mostly consistent with the initial 2D PSFs. 3D PSF consists with direction and density and it represents the 3D trajectory of object motion. 야to restore 3D shape by using multi-view images computes the similarity map and estimates the position of 3D point. The estimated 3D PSF is again projected to input images and they replaces the intial 2D PSFs which are finally used in image deblurring. Experimental result shows that the quality of image deblurring and 3D reconstruction improves significantly compared with the result when the input images are independently deblurred.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the design criteria and detailed design model by reviewing the issues related to geometry, formation process, destruction process, hydraulic function, restoration and ecological function of the step-pool from the existing research results, to apply the step-pool sequences to river restoration. Based on the analysis and review results, the design criteria for the structure and size of the step-pool are presented as ratio of the step spacing and the channel width, ratio of the unit step slope and channel slope, and ratio of step height and the particle size. To ensure structural stability of the step, stability analysis method of overturning based on the keystone theory was proposed as a design criterion. As a detailed design concept, a layout model was proposed by applying the imbricating structure of keystones and arch stones to the planar, longitudinal and transverse configurations of the step-pool.
