본 연구의 목적은 특정 목적을 가진 제품들의 특성들을 파악하여 디자인 개발시 이러한 특성들을 제품 컨셉 또는 디자인 형태에 응용하고자 함이다. 이를 위해 먼저 실험 대상을 설정하였고, 실험 대상을 선택한 후 실험 대상에 관한 기초 설문과 실험 대상 이미지 분석을 실시하였다. 이후 실험 대상의 디자인과 기능적 요소를 추출하여 코딩하였다. 그리고 실험 대상의 이미지분석 후 얻은 요소와 실험 대상의 요소의 관계를 증명하였으며, 실험 대상의 특성 추출을 위한 설문을 실시하였다. 이러한 실험 프로세스를 거쳐 특정한 제품에 특성들을 추출함으로써 디자인 개발 시 소비자 니즈의 분석이 가능하며, 제품을 이해하는 기초 자료로 사용이 가능하다. 또한 디자이너가 제품을 쉽게 이해하고 디자인 개발 시 컨셉 설정에 큰 기초가 된다. 본 연구의 MP3의 경우 MP3의 이미지 분석 결과 음악성, 확장성, 휴대성, 사용성, 신체 부담감, 인터페이스, 그리고 개성으로 나타났으며, 이들과 각각 연관된 특성들을 찾았다. 이로써 MP3를 디자인할 때 중요 특성들을 제시하였다. 이러한 기초 연구를 통해 보다 효과적인 소비자 니즈 파악이 가능하고, 디자인 기초 학문 발전을 가져올 것이다.

This study developed 'Design Career Aptitude Scale' to help design majoring college students who are seeking their career goals or conflicting to decide their majors. The subscales of the 'Design Career Aptitude Scale' are 'basic job competency', 'basic design competency' and' advanced design competency'. This study further classified the 'basic job competency' and 'basic design competency' into several subareas and defined each concepts. Based upon the classification of each subareas, tentative test items were developed through the verification of validity three times by seven design professionals. A pilot study of the developed scale was administered to 506 design majoring college students. The results by exploratory factor analysis were that the basic job competency was composed of four factors; ability of interpersonal relations, goal-driven ability, problem solving ability and self-developing ability. The basic design competency was composed of five factor, grounding in design, computer skills, material sensitivity, formative ability and color sensitivity. The results can be seen as an adequate, delicate factor structure to represent design aptitude, and also the scale can be a useful tool to the students who are conflicting to decide their majors and careers. The further study needed to validate the scale through the investigation of the relationship with related scales measuring designing ability, and with other criteria-referenced group.

The development of personal computers and the Internet led to changes of instructor-student and student-student relationships in design education. New resources of design education with proper materials and tools have to be offered for teaching and learning. The purpose of this research is to develop Basic Graphic Tools(BGTs) on screen that help students to practice the design principles, and to evaluate the BGTs' usability to enhance the credibility of extra tools for online design learning. The BGTs has to be developed to minimize the gap between the online and traditional classroom settings and to maximize the diverse advantage of lecture content driven from technology. Students were given certain design requirements to explore BGTs and a learning guide/performance test after the lecture to evaluate the tools. The test was performed under the e-learning program serviced by C college. This research has presented some encouraging results and raises questions toward future work: how do BGTs impact the feasibility of an online design lecture.

The foundation courses of industrial design from Bauhaus to today is, a delivery room of modern industrial design, played an essential role of the image formation in the current German design. In the foundation courses of industrial design that is required in our society, not only the concept gestalt should be understood, approached to industrial design through the integrated meaning of science and culture. In this paper, the historical establishment background of gestalt universities that contributed enormously to the development of German industrial design was analyzed, and then tried to understand the fundamentals of German design education. Also the results of the foundation courses at Bauhaus, Vim university and current German gestalt universities are compared to the products, which illustrates a typical German Image. With this comparison, the importance of the role of the basic design education was recognized, and using the results the necessary direction of the foundation courses in Korean industrial design was presented.

섬유 패턴 디자인을 체계적이고 객관적으로 기술할 수 있는 도구를 패턴 디자인의 지각적 속성에 기초하여 개발하였다. 세 단계로 이루어진 연구의 첫 단계에서는 패턴 디자인의 단계를 실제 디자인 과정에 기초하여 'PP의 디자인', 'RPU의 디자인', 'RPU의 배열'의 순서로 개념화한 후, 이 데 영역에 걸쳐 30개의 지각적 특징들을 추출하였고, 섬유 패턴 디자인을 충실히 기술할 수 있다는 것을 확인하였다. 다음으로 추출된 30개의 지각적 특징들을 'PP의 모양에 의한 돌출성', 'PP의 색채에 의한 돌출성', 'PP들 모양의 다양성'. 'PP들의 변화도', 'PP들 색채의 다양성', 'RPU의 돌출성', 'RPU의 다양성'이라는 7개의 상위 특징으로 수렴시킨 후, 이 7개의 상위특징들을 다시 'PP에 의한 다양성', 'RPU의 돌출성' 'RPU의 다양성'이라는 4개의 최상위 특징으로 수렵시키는 방식으로 위계화 하여 섬유 패턴 디자인 요소 분석체계를 구성하였다. 또한 대표적인 섬유 패턴 디자인에 대한 이 체계의 기술 가능성을 검토함으로써 본 체계를 수정·보완하였다.

디자인은 과학적 접근이 어려운 분야로 인식되어 왔다. 그러나 디자인 분야가 발전하면서 과학적 접근을 조금씩 시도해오고 있다. 최근에 등장한 서비스사이언스가 디자인분야에 적용되면 디자인 효과성과 생산성이 높아질 가능성이 크다. 본 기초연구는 대표 IT기업들의 정보기기 디자인 사례에 서비스사이언스 개념이 적용되고 있는지를 분석하여, 발전 방향을 제시하였다. 따라서 본 기초 연구는 디자인경영 및 디자인프로세스의 과학화와 서비스사이언스의 실무적용 과정을 함께 보여주는 것이 목적이다. 그리하여 향후에 비가시적인 서비스활동이 보다 가시적이 되고 평범한 서비스 활동이 보다 혁신적인 활동으로 개선 될 수 있도록 아이디어를 제공하는 것이 목적이다.

Design education has been developed on the basis of higher education and continuing education for professional designers. This professional education has been regarded as a top priority in order to establish the discipline of design and status of designers in the society for the birth of design as a new discipline. Education of designers, however, should not be limited within the professional education led by higher education system. In order to educate designers having the competitiveness for the 21st century, it is necessary to expand the range of design education from higher education to general education by developing new programs. This paper is designed to investigate the importance and characteristics of 'Design-Based Education' by emphasizing design educational methods which are applied to the general education. As case studies, the current educational situations of England and United States of America are analyzed on the basis of their efforts and children's education programs. This study will provide the fundamental guideline for the development of K-12 design education in Korea.
