Dynamic Characteristic Analysis Procedure of Helicopter-mounted Electronic Equipment (헬기 탑재용 전자장비의 동특성 분석 절차)

  • Electronic equipment has been applied to virtually every area associated with commercial, industrial, and military applications. Specifically, electronics have been incorporated into avionics components installed in aircraft. This equipment is exposed to dynamic loads such as vibration, shock, and acceleration. Especially, avionics components installed in a helicopter are subjected to simultaneous sine and random base excitations. These are denoted as sine on random vibrations according to MIL-STD-810F, Method 514.5. In the past, isolators have been applied to avionics components to reduce vibration and shock. However, an isolator applied to an avionics component installed in a helicopter can amplify the vibration magnitude, and damage the chassis, circuit card assembly, and the isolator itself via resonance at low-frequency sinusoidal vibrations. The objective of this study is to investigate the dynamic characteristics of an avionics component installed in a helicopter and the structural dynamic modification of its tray plate without an isolator using both a finite element analysis and experiments. The structure is optimized by dynamic loads that are selected by comparing the vibration, shock, and acceleration loads using vibration and shock response spectra. A finite element model(FEM) was constructed using a simplified geometry and valid element types that reflect the dynamic characteristics. The FEM was verified by an experimental modal analysis. Design parameters were extracted and selected to modify the structural dynamics using topology optimization, and design of experiments(DOE). A prototype of a modified model was constructed and its feasibility was evaluated using an FEM and a performance test.

Effect of Antimicrobial Microperforated Film Packaging on Extending Shelf Life of Cluster-type Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) (천연 항균물질 미세천공필름 포장이 송이토마토의 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • To investigate the effects of the improvement of postharvest quality on fresh tomato, antimicrobial microperforated (AMP) films were prepared and their antimicrobial abilities were observed. AMP films were made by coating different types of natural antimicrobial agents such as cinnamon, clove, and clary sage essential oils into microperforated (MP) films. Cinnamon essential oil of 10% (v/v) has proven to be very effective as inhibitor of the mold growth on tomato, compared to the clove and clary sage essential oils. Quality changes of fresh tomatoes packed using the natural AMP films (AMP10 and AMP30) and MP films (MP10 and MP30) during storage were evaluated. Total microbial growth, weight loss, firmness, lycopene content, and decay rate as the major quality parameters were monitored over 9 days at $15^{\circ}C$. The oxygen transmission rates and mechanical properties between the natural AMP and MP films were also compared. There was no significant difference in change of oxygen transmission rate, tensile strength and elongation between the AMP and MP films. For storage studies, the freshness of tomato packaged in AMP30 film was higher than that in OPP film (the control), MP10, MP30, and AMP10 films. Especially, AMP30 film exhibited high efficiency compared to the control for tomato decay during storage periods. Based on the results, the microperforation and antimicrobial properties of the packaged films may significantly affect the maintenance of an optimum gas composition within the package atmosphere for increasing the storage life and quality of produce. They were also effective on the inhibition of microbial growth by controlled release of antimicrobial agent at an appropriate rate from the package into the tomato. Natural antimicrobial agent coating microperforated films could use potential functional package as a method of extending the freshness of postharvest tomato for storage.

Solubility of Hydrogen Sulfide and Methane in Ionic Liquids: 1-Ethy-3-methylimidazolium Trifluoromethanesulfonate and 1-Butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium Trifluoromethanesulfonate (1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate와 1-Butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium trifluoromethanesulfonate 이온성 액체에 대한 황화수소와 메탄의 용해도)

  • Solubility data of hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S$) and methane ($CH_4$) in two kinds of ionic liquids with the same anion: 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate ([emim][TfO]) and 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium trifluoromethanesulfonate ([bmpyr][TfO]) are presented at pressures up to about 30 MPa and at temperatures between 303 K and 343 K. The gas solubilities in ionic liquids were determined by measuring the bubble point pressures of the gas + ionic liquid mixtures with various compositions at different temperatures using a high-pressure equilibrium apparatus equipped with a variable-volume view cell. The $H_2S$ solubilities in ionic liquid increased with the increase of pressure and decreased with the increase of temperature. On the other hand, the $CH_4$ solubilities in ionic liquid increased significantly with the increase of pressure, but there was little effect of temperature on the $CH_4$ solubility. For the ionic liquds [emim][TfO] and [bmpyr][TfO] with the same anion, the solubility of $H_2S$ as a molality basis was substantially similar, regardless of the temperature and pressure conditions as a molar concentration basis. Comparing the solubilities of $H_2S$ and $CH_4$ in the ionic liquid [emim][TfO], the solubilities of $H_2S$ were much greater than those of $CH_4$. For the same type of ionic liquid, the solubility data of $H_2S$ and $CH_4$ obtained in this study were compared to the solubility data of $CO_2$ from the literature. When compared at the same pressure and temperature conditions, the $CO_2$ solubility was in between the solubility of $H_2S$ and $CH_4$.

Electronic Spectroscopy of Protonated Tyr-Ala Dipeptide Ions (Tyr-Ala 펩타이드 이온의 전자전이 분광 연구)

  • Electronic photofragmentation spectrum of protonated tyrosine-alanine dipeptide ions(YAH+) was obtained in the wavenumber region of 34500~36700 cm-1 using a quadrupole ion trap time-of-flight mass spectrometer (QIT-TOFMS). YAH+ ions were produced by electrospray ionization, stored in the ion trap and then irradiated by ultraviolet laser pulses which induced photofragmentation of the ions. The electronic photofragmentation spectrum was obtained by monitoring the photodissociation yields of YAH+ ions as a function of the laser wavelength. The spectrum exhibited two broad peaks which were assigned as S1 and S2 by theoretical calculations using a time-dependent density functional method. The broad widths of the peaks in the spectrum were explained by the overlaps of the peaks originated from various conformers of YAH+ ions which were present in the gas phase at room temperature and also by the contributions of the hot bands.

Removal of Volatile Organic Compounds using Candida tropicalis Immobilized on Polymer Gel Media in an Airlift Loop Bioreactor (Candida tropicalis 포괄고정 담체를 적용한 Airlift Loop Bioreactor에서의 복합 휘발성유기화합물 제거)

  • This research was performed to improve removal efficiency of toluene and methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) using Candida tropicalis, one of the yeast species. An airlift loop bioreactor (ALB) was employed to enhance the capability of mass transfer for toluene and MEK from the gas phase to the liquid, microbial phase. Polymer gel media made from PAC, alginate and PEG was applied for the effective immobilization of the yeast strain on the polymer gel media. The experimental results indicated that the mass transfer coefficient of toluene without polymer gel media was 1.29 $min^{-1}$ at a gas retention time of 15 sec, whereas the KLa value for toluene was increased to 4.07 $min^{-1}$ by adding the media, confirming the enhanced mass transfer of volatile organic compounds between the gas and liquid phases. The removal efficiency of toluene and MEK by using yeast-immobilized polymer gel media in the ALB was greater than 80% at different pollutant loading rates (5, 10, 19 and 37 g/$m^3$/hr for toluene, 4.5, 8.9, 17.8 and 35.1 g/$m^3$/hr for MEK). In addition, an elimination capacity test conducted by changing inlet loading rates stepwise demonstrated that maximum elimination capacities for toluene and MEK were 70.4 and 56.4 g/$m^3$/hr, respectively.

  • To realistically simulate fluid, the Navier-Stokes equations are generally used. Solving these Navier-Stokes equations on the Eulerian framework, the non-linear advection terms invoke heavy computation and thus Semi-Lagrangian methods are used as an approximated way of solving them. In the Semi-Lagrangian methods, the locations of advection sources are traced and the physical values at the traced locations are interpolated. In the case of Stam's method, there are relatively many chances of numerical losses, and thus there have been efforts to correct these numerical errors. In most cases, they have focused on the numerical interpolation processes, even simultaneously using particle-based methods. In this paper, we propose a new approach to reduce the numerical losses, through improving the tracing method during the advection calculations, without any modifications on the Eulerian framework itself. In our method, we trace the grids with the velocities which will let themselves to be moved to the current target position, differently from the previous approaches, where velocities of the current target positions are used. From the intuitive point of view, we adopted the simple physical observation: the physical quantities at a specific position will be moved to the new location due to the current velocity. Our method shows reasonable reduction on the numerical losses during the smoke simulations, finally to achieve real-time processing even with enhanced realities.

Spectroscopy of Local Starburst Galaxies (가까운 폭발적 항성생성은하의 분광 관측)

  • We investigate the star formation rate, stellar mass, and gas-phase metallicity of local starburst galaxies with different star formation time scales based on their optical spectra. The observation is made using the longslit spectrograph attached to the 4K CCD on the Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory 1.8m telescope, targeting 21 Wolf-Rayet galaxies as young starbursts and 13 UV excess galaxies as slightly older starbursts. A Baldwin-Phillips-Terlevich diagram analysis shows that 50% of the observed targets are pure star-forming galaxies while only 15% are classified as Active Galactic Nuclei. Fraction of galaxies that reside in composite region is higher in UV excess galaxies than in Wolf-Rayet galaxies, suggesting that the AGN development requires extra time after the onset of the star formation. Most of the observed starburst galaxies have stellar masses of $10^{9-11}M_{\odot}$ and stellar formation rates of $0.01-100M_{\odot}yr^{-1}$, and their star formation rates are consistent with that of the SDSS star forming main sequence galaxies of similar stellar mass. There is no significant difference between Wolf-Rayet galaxies and UV excess galaxies in terms of the stellar mass and star formation rate. We also see a mass-metallicity relation for local starbursts with slightly lower metallicity for a given stellar mass, which implies the existence of a strong feedback activity due to the star formation in these galaxies.

A Study on Pyrolysis of Cellulosic Organic Solid Wastes (셀룰로오스질 유기고형폐물의 열분해에 관한 연구)

  • Cellulosic organic solid wastes such as bark and sawdust, and filter papers as a pure cellulose were pyrolyzed at $300^{\circ}C$ under nitrogen current and mixed current of nitrogen and air. Amounts of condensates collected in air, water, and dry ice-acetone cooling traps, noncondensable gases, and carbonized residues were surveyed. The components of volatile liquids condensed in dry ice-acetone trap were separated by means of gas chromatograph and identified by retention times and syringe reactions. Pyrolysis under nitrogen current produced 13.4∼29.6${\%}$ of tar, 0.01∼0.12${\%}$ of aqueous liquids, 0.24∼1.43${\%}$ of volatile liquids, 9.84∼42.41${\%}$ of noncondensable gases, and 44.0∼65.81${\%}$ of carbonized residues. Pyrolysis under mixed current decreased tar and condensable liquids, but increased noncondensable gases.Volatile liquids collected under nitrogen current separated into the same 19 components by Porapak Q column regardless of the materials and only difference among materials was relative amounts of components. Volatile liquids collected under mixed current separated into six components and mainly lower molecular weight compounds such as methanol and formaldehyde were produced. According to the retention times and syringe reactions, methanol, formaldehyde, acetone, acetaldehyde, acetic acid, and three other compounds presumably containing hydroxyl group in the molecular structure were identified out of 19 compounds.

Use-friendly Active Packaging of Powdered Infant Formula in Single-serve Portion Augmented with Anti-oxidative Function (산화억제 가능성과 사용편의성을 가진 일회성 조제분유 포장)

  • In the modified atmosphere packaging of powdered infant formula, the oxygen inside the package may cause its quality deterioration and needs to be minimized for quality preservation. A way of oxygen scavenger inclusion in the single-serve package without contacting the product was devised for removing oxygen residing initially and permeating through the seal layer during the storage. A polyethylene/pulp multi-layer porous filter bag of 5 × 7 cm containing 13 g of powdered infant formula was packaged in an 8 × 9 cm size aluminium laminated film package with a Fe-based oxygen scavenger of 1.8 g. After nitrogen flushed packaging, the active packages were stored at 30℃ for 254 days with periodical quality measurement. The active package could remove the initial residual oxygen of 1.4% completely and maintain absence of oxygen for the whole storage, which contributed to reduced oxidation observed in lower product peroxide value compared to that of the product in the control package. There was no influence of packaging treatment on content of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, reaction product of initial nonenzymatic browning. The devised oxygen-scavenging single-serve package showed a potential to improve the preservation of infant formula powder and extend the shelf life.

이온 보조 반응법(Ion Assisted Reaction)으로 처리된 Polypropylene과 Conducting polymer의 접착력 향상

  • 소수성의 특성을 가지는^g , pp (polypropylene)의 표면을 이온 보조 반응법(IAR)으로 처리하여 친수성으로 개질하였다. 이온빔 보조 반응법은 고에너지 이온빔을 이용한 기존의 표면처리 방식과는 달리 1keV 영역의 에너지를 가진 이온빔을 조사하면서 시료 주위에 반응성 가스를 불어넣어 줌으로써 표면의 성질을 변화시키는 방법이다. 여기서 조사된 수소이온의 에너지는 0.6에서 1.0keV까지 변화시키고 시료의 주변에 불어주는 산소의 양은 0에서 8ml/min으로 변화시켰으며 이온 조사량은 5x1014에서 1x1017ions/$\textrm{cm}^2$까지 변화시켰다. 그 결과 처리하지 않은 시료의 접촉각은 93$^{\circ}$이었으며 이온조사량이 1x1017ions/$\textrm{cm}^2$이고 가속에너지가 1.0keV인 조건에서 수소 이온빔만으로 처리한 시편의 경우 접촉각은 60$^{\circ}$정도 였으나 수소이온보조 반응법으로 처리한 시편의 경우는 $10^{\circ}$이하까지 접촉각이 감소하였음을 알 수 있었다. 이는 표면처리에 따른 표면의 친수성 작용기의 형성을 예상할 수 있으며 그 존잴르 확인하기 위하여 대기중과 물속에서 각각 보관한 시료의 접촉각과 표면에너지를 계산하여보았다. 그 결과 대기중에서 방치한 시편의 경우40$^{\circ}$ 정도로 감소하였으나 증류수에 보관한 시료의 경우는 15$^{\circ}$정도의 변화를 보였다. 물과 Formamide의 접촉각의 측정으로 표면에너지를 계산한 결과 산소분위기에서 수소이온빔으로 처리된 시료는 23dyne/cm에서 64dyne/cm이상까지 변화함을 관찰하였다. 위의 결과들이 표면거칠기에 미치는 영향을 고찰하기 위해 처리되지 않은^g , pp 의 근(root mean square)값은 8.30nm이었고 1kevdpsj지에서 불어준 산소4ml/min이고 이온 조사량이 1x1017ions/$\textrm{cm}^2$인 경우 접촉각은 $10^{\circ}$를 나타냈으며 rms값은 20.8nm를 나타내었다. XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) 분석을 통하여 1x1017ions/$\textrm{cm}^2$에서 산소기체를 4ml/min 불어넣어준 후 C-O, C=O, (C=O)-O등의 친수성 작용기가 형성되었음을 확인하였다.^g , pp 의 접착력을 알아보기 위해 유성 페인트를 전도성 고분자위에 후막 처리하였다. 스카치 테이프를 테스트를 통하여 이온 보조 반응법으로 처리된^g , pp 표면이 처리하지 않은 시편에 비하여 접착력 향상되었음을 확인하였다.
