  • An isolate of Ampelomyces quisqualis 94013 was selected as an effective parasite for biological control against cucumber powdery mildew. Temperature range for the parasitism of A. quisqualis 94013 against cucumber powdery mildew was $12\~30^{\circ}C$, and optimal temperature for that $20\~28^{\circ}C$. In $20\~35\%$ humidity of the greenhouse, parasitic ability of A. quisqualis 94013 against Sphaerotheca fusca was not good. Inoculation tests revealed that A. quisqualis 94013 can parasitize on six species of Sphaerotheca in the 12 crops and Ersiphe cichoracerum in tomato. As host rang of A. quisqualis 94013 was broad and it may be used effectively as a biocontrol agent for powdery mildew of 13 crops.

  • This study investigated host range, seasonal occurrence and developmental characteristics of Ceroplastes pseudoceriferus Green on persimmon trees. The host plants covered 34 families and 66 species, including newly recorded species of Chenopodum album var. centrorubrum, Glycine max, Begonia semperflorens, Pharbitis nil, Perilla frutescens var. japonica and Erigeron canadensis. There was one generation of C. pseudoceriferus a year with larval stage expanding from mid-June to mid-October. Average number of eggs laid per female was 1,073$\pm$177.3. Hatching rate was 97.3% and was not affected by temperatures and photoperiods. Stadium varied as 23.4 days in eggs, 128.3 days in larvae and 213.3 days in female adults including overwintering periods at natural condition.

  • These studies were to observe the pentatomid species of chrysanthemum, and to investigate the h host range of Nysius plebejus DIstant and its control The five pentatomid species of four families w were observed In Chinju and Masan areas. Dominant species was Nysius plebejus DIstant with 80.6% occufied. The host plants of N. plebejus were 20 species in chrysanthemum fields. And major hosts were chrysanthemum morifalium, Lolium multiflorum, Erigeron linifolius and Fragana chiloensls. All the cultivars of C. monfoIium were infested and severely damaged by N. plebeius Appropnate control of N. plebejus was 3~4 applications of the effective insecticides at 10-day intervals from early August.

  • An investigation was carried out to know the host range of the rice stripe virus as a basis of the disease control. 1. In order to investigate the host range of the rice stripe virus 30 species including gramineaceae and forage crop and weeds were inoculated with viruliferous Laodelphax sriatellus Fallen. As a result, 21 out of 30 species showed typical symptoms. 2. Cyperus amuricus Maximowicz var. laxus., Pycreus sanguinolentus Nees. and Eriocaulon robustius Makino, not belonging to gramineaceae were known to be new host plants of rice stripe virus. The highest infection occurred on Pycreus sanguinolentus grown widly in the wet paddy fold. 3. The number of vectors inoculated on the plants was decreased after 48 hours than that of 24 hours.
