  • The Stagnation Syndrome of Qi is the depressed and suppressed mental state caused by anxiety, unaccomplished desire, maintained thought, and emotional problems, resulting in a concomitant physiological somatic dysfunction. Although blood test, urine test, EKG, and gastric endoscopy showed normal finding. a patient complained of a group of symptoms, so we considered it as an unidentified clinical syndrome. This syndrome could be interpreted as the disconnection of Fire (Heart) and Water (Kidney) in Oriental medicine, and treated with the therapeutic method of 'Ascending Water-Descending Fire'. After the application of Gyogam-dan and Ganggi-tang for 18 days, symptoms and signs improved.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze and compare heart rate variability(HRV) of patient of twenties and thirties diagnosed as Kiwooljeung with healthy controls'. Methods : We measured HRV of 35 patient(20 to 39 years old, male 14, female 11) diagnosed as Kiwooljeung and 40 healthy controls(male 24, female 16). HRV was measured by SA-3000P(Medicore, Korea) for 5 minutes after 5 minutes resting. Results : 1. In time domain analysis, Mean pulse rate(PRT) in Kiwooljeung group was higher than healthy controls. Standard deviation of all normal N-N intervals (SDNN) in Kiwooljeung group was lower and the results of twenties and thirties were same. 2. In frequency domain analysis, total power(TP), very low frequency(VLF), low frequency(LF), high frequency(HF), Ln TP, Ln VLF, Ln LF, Ln HF in Kiwooljeung group were lower than healthy controls but LF/HF ratio was higher than healthy controls. 3. Comparing gender in Kiwooljeung group, LF/HF ratio in male was higher than female. Conclusions : This study suggests lower activity and imbalance of cardiac autonomous nervous system in Kiwooljeung with the age group between twenties and thirties.

  • The Oriental Medical Literature Relating to Treatment of Gyogamdan in Ki Stagnation : focused on Suseunghwagang The normal drift of a current Ki can maintain a function of body. An abnormal drift of a current Ki which is called a Ki Stagnation by lots of thinking or agony gets to a various disease syndrome. A Ki Stagnation is similar to a mental stress disease. It is a common disease for us to contact easily, so, it is very valuable to study. Gyogamdan which is composed of Cyperi Rhizoma L. and Poria cum Radix pini has been used by basic prescription of a symptom related to all kinds of Ki disease, after being recorded to Hongssijibhumbang first. Gyogamdan has an ability to regulate Ki , through 'Suseunghwagang-centric'(Ascending the Water and Descending the Fire) in body. Gyogamdan compares to Gamijajoohwan which can treat eyes dizzy by ascending heat and Gongjindan which can regulate lack of basic Ki through 'Suseunghwagang-centric'. It is general for the herb and acupuncture to give medical treatment coming together in oriental medicine, so do Gyogamdan and Sagwan Acupoints. Gyogamdan in composition Cyperi Rhizoma L. and Poria cum Radix pini and Sagwan Acupoints in composition Hapkok and T'aech'ung get to synergistic effects. Therefore, a Ki Stagnation treatment through unions of Gyogamdan and Sagwan Acupoints may have more effects than when a treatment used each one alone. Be considered that we have to study Gyogamdan and Sagwan Acupoints carried out an experiment to set up the previous theory in future

  • Tension Myositis Syndrome is defined as the muscle syndromes affected by brain signal as a result of stress. Furthermore, painful muscles cause tensional emotions in body system. Pain is the result of mutual co-operations between the brain and muscles. Unpleasant feelings increase the pain intensity. In addition, painful muscles were seen to have influences on the brain neurological system. Therefore, in spite of physical treatments, chronic pain has a tendency to be persistent and incurable. For psychological cures, We applied deep breathing, muscle relaxation therapy for anxious, sensitive chronic neck pain patient, then we evaluated her Visual Analogue Scale in reference to subjective feelings of pains every other day at 9 PM. In conclusion, We found that deep breathing and muscle relaxations helped reduce the feeling of pains for those who suffered from anxiety, tensional pains. Therefore, relaxation therapies are necessary methods for pain controls as well as physical treatments.
