  • The conversion of rice-fields to uplands is increased in last 8 years due to the government's policy. To obtain basic informations on plant-parasitic nematodes in converted uplands, we surveyed nematodes associated with crops cultured on the ridge of the rice-fields. The crops mostly cultivated at the ridge of rice-field were soybean (66%), red bean (21%), and perilla (13%). Ten important plant-parasitic nematodes species were identified: Helicotylenchus sp., Heterodera glycines, Meloidogyne arenaria, M. javanica, M. hapla, Paratylenchus projectus, Pratylenchus coffeae, P. neglectus, Rotylenchus incultus, Trichodorus sp. Tylenchorhynchus crassicaudatus, and T. claytoni. Among them, Rotylenchus incultus was the most common plant-parasitic nematode in all three crops. The ridge is a border of rice field, thus plant-parasitic nematodes infested on ridges should be cautioned for future cropping.

  • In order to check host plant diversity and to confirm the potential risk to be invaded, we documented host plant flora and plant part of C. pentagona, an invasive parasitic plant in field survey and induced parasitic infection by them in the laboratory experiment. Parasitic interaction(12% of total tree species) was found in twig and leaf of tree such as Quercus mongolica and Abies holophylla that was not developed into ligninfication. There were most host plant species belong to Compositae, but the species parasitic rate of family was higher in Cyperaceae, Polygonaceae and Leguminoceae. Through the inducible infection experiment with C. pentagona, all species except one species show parasitic interaction between host plan and C. pentagona. These result means that the limiting stage for invading area is dispersion process for invading other area in Korea. Infection plant part by C. pentagona was dominantly both shoot and leaf, rather than only leaf or only shoot. We found newly 12 families and 45 host plant species including 33 herbacious one and 12 woody one. Crop plant such as Setaria italica and 6 endangerd one such as Scrophularia takesimensis, especially the later rare endemic plant was to death by parasitic infection of C. pentagona. These results indicate that C. pentagona is potential risk to both wild and cultivated plant in Korea.

  • Plant-parasitic nematodes were surveyed at peach orchards in Gyeongbuk province for three years from 2000 to 2002. Species, density, frequency, Simpson's index, Shannon and Wiener index, and prominence value were analyzed. Plant-parasitic nematodes were isolated from 97 orchards out of 124 orchards. More important plant-parasitic nematode genera on peach were Tylenchorhynchus nudus, Criconemoides informis, Paratylenchus elachistus, Pratylenchus vulnus, and Helicotylenchus digonichus. Aphelenchus sp., Tylenchus sp., Heterodera sp., Scutellonema sp. were found, but were not important. Root-knot nematodes were not found even though they were serious in foreign countried.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the plant-parasitic nematodes of ornamental foliage plants, citrus orchards, and tea plantations from July to December 2022. As a result of the investigation of plant-parasitic nematodes in 415 foliage plants, root-lesion nematodes were detected most frequently, followed by root-knot nematodes, pin nematodes, and other nematodes. In tea plantations, spiral nematodes, cyst nematodes, and root-knot nematodes were detected. Citrus nematodes, ring nematodes, and root-knot nematodes were discovered in citrus orchards. In foliage plants, tea plantations, and citrus orchards, the detection rate of plant-parasitic nematodes was not high, but root-lesion nematodes were detected. Therefore, it is necessary to apply appropriate control methods to manage root-lesion nematodes during the cultivation of foliage, tea, and citrus plants.

  • Mites in the family Parasitidae (Mesostigmata) are important predators in soil ecosystem. During the soil acarine biodiversity study from diverse habitats in the Republic of Korea, we found newly recording species of parasitid mites of genus Cycetogamasus and Neogamasus. This paper reports two species Cycetogamasus coreanus and C. corculatus of genus Cycetogamasus and five species Neogamasus eogenualis, N. tikhomirovi, N. laciniatus, Neogamasus kengicus and Neogamasus mahunkai of genus Neogamasus as new record in the Republic of Korea.

  • This study were conducted to assess plantparasitic nematodes infesting Codonopsis lanceolata. Ten kinds of plantparasitic nematode gem including Meloidogyne and Pratylenchus were identified in 34 localities of C. lanceolata fields in three provinces in Korea. Meloidogyne, a dominant genus, was found in 97% localities and showed high average density as 1,700 nematodes per 300$m\ell$ soil. Its average density was 10 times higher in upland field than in paddy field.

  • This study was conducted to identify plant-parasitic nematodes and determine the distribution pattern of the nematode species in citrus fruit orchards in Korea from April to August, 2008. Plant-parasitic nematodes were found in 139 among 178 soil samples. Tylenchulus semipenetrans was collected from 85 out of 94 Citrus unshiu orchards examined (90.4%). C. junos orchards infested with T. semipenetrans were 60 out of 84 (71.4%). However, proportion of dominant species between the two was different. At domestic Citrus orchards, it proved that T. semipenetrans was the most important plant-parasitic nematode from this study. The overall frequency of the plant-parasitic nematodes was positively correlated with the cultivation years. More alkaline soils tended to harbor more T. semipenetrans. However the correlation coefficient between the two was very low.

  • The fauna and the distribution of plant parasitic namatodes were investigated by smapling about five hundred grams of soil around roots of mulberry trees from 929 mulberry fields in Korea. Of fourteen genera detected on mulberry fields, Paratylenchus aciculus, P. projectus, P. morius, Helicotylenchus dihystera, Meloidogyne arenaria were found to be parasitic to mulberry. Among them Paratylenchus species were the most abundant in mulberry fields, but Tylenchorhynchus sp., Aphelenchus sp., Helicotylenchus sp., and Meloidogyne sp. were also observed in high frequency. Meloidogyne species were observed in high frequency in Jeonbuk, Gyeonggi and Jeonnam, Helicotylenchus sp., in Gyeongnam and Gyeonggi, Xiphinema sp., in Jeonbuk and Jeonnam, and Paratylenchus sp., in Gyeonggi, Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam, and Jeonnam. The growth of mulberry was poor as the increase of density of Paratylenchus sp.
