The Effect of Cabin Environment on In-Flight Entertainment Satisfaction (객실서비스의 물리적 환경이 엔터테인먼트 만족에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, specific review for the recent trend both in technical parts and the contents of IFE will be revealed. At the same time, how the passenger's satisfaction on IFE will lead to make an intention of repurchase and create the transmission of positive feed backs on the concerned airline has been thoroughly studied. In order to do the above, 250 air traveling passengers has participated the survey and 235 survey forms has been analyzed by Multiple Regression Analysis. According to the analysis, the physical environmental Improvement in aircraft system helps to Increase the satisfaction degree on IFE. The convenience is revealed as the most effective factor in the satisfaction degree on IFE while the atmosphere and design is regarded as the similarly Important factor. The contents of IFE are obviously affecting the satisfaction degree in positive side. Consequently, the customers' satisfaction on IFE positively affects to the repurchase intention especially to the transmission of the feed back.

  • The entertainment system of the aircraft has changed its paradigm in the form of using passenger electronic devices instead of using a fixed monitor. This has simplified the on-board equipment while the risk of safety has increased with the electric charging of portable electronic devices. Unlike personal portable electronic devices that do not have a transmission function, the use of Wi-Fi enabled electronic devices(T-PED) is allowed and the battery is required to be charged in the cabin. In this study, we used the NASA Aviation Safety Reporting System to investigate the effects of changes in wireless environment and entertainment service. Based on this, we analyzed the risks of personal electronic devices by sharing event occurrence cases caused by in-flight electronic equipment or passenger portable electronic devices(especially smart phones) from the viewpoint of aircraft safety management. This analysis includes identification of potential hazards and risk assessment, and finally the strategies for risk mitigation for safe use of portable electronic devices are suggested.

A Filtering Antenna for Wireless In-Flight Entertainment Communication System at Millimeter-Wave Band (기내 엔터테인먼트 통신 시스템을 위한 밀리미터파 대역의 여파기 결합 안테나)

  • In this paper, H-plane filtering-horn antenna operating at millimeter frequency band is proposed with embedded filter and three-layered dielectric lens for frequency selection and maintenance of main beam direction, respectively. The waveguide-typed filter and H-plane sectoral horn antenna are replaced with considerably size-reduced PCB substrate-typed filtering antenna using via fences and several posts. The waveguide-typed filter and H-plane sectoral horn antenna were designed in air-filled waveguide and then combined into size-reduced PCB substrate. For the control of the thickness of dielectric lens, single and multi dielectric lens have been employed. As a result of antenna gain, 8 and 13.5 dBi have been obtained at 41.5 GHz, respectively, from the simulations of single and multi-lens antennas.

  • The primary objective of this paper is to introduce the application of Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies in flight operations. These include: self-check-in, baggage handling, airport security and surveillance, airport operations monitoring, In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFEC), cockpit design, and cabin crew support. This paper investigates the application status and development trends of HMI and AR technologies for airports and aircraft. These technologies can provide more efficient in-flight passenger service and experience by using AR devices. This paper also discusses the developments such as; the Integrated Control Application (ICA) for the IFEC interface, AR flight simulation training program using the fixed-based simulator, and the AR aircraft cabin interior concept test program. These applications present how HMI and AR techniques can be utilized in actual flight operations. The developed programs in this paper can be applied to their purpose within aircraft interiors and services to enhance efficiency, comfort, and experience.

  • Cyber attacks on aircraft and aeronautical networks are not much different from cyber attacks commonly found in the ground industry. Air traffic management infrastructure is being transformed into a digital infrastructure to secure air traffic. A wide variety of communication environments, information and communications, navigation, surveillance and inflight entertainment systems are increasingly threatening the threat posed by cyber terrorism threats. The emergence of unmanned aircraft systems also poses an uncontrollable risk with cyber terrorism. We have analyzed cyber security standards and response strategies in developed countries by recognizing the vulnerability of cyber threats to aircraft systems and aviation infrastructure in next generation data network systems. We discussed comprehensive measures for cybersecurity policies to consider in the domestic aviation environment, and discussed the concept of security environment and quick response strategies.
