Transnational Nationalism and the Rise of the Transnational State Apparatus in South Korea (초국적 민족주의와 초국적 국가 기구의 부상 -한국의 사례-)

  • Recent studies on development are increasingly focusing on analyzing development discourse and de constructing its institutionalization process in the nation-state. By pushing up the limit of the research on development, these studies particularly emphasize how development is articulated with the nation-state, its governmentality, and various representations. These studies overall consider development a powerful discourse, which invents under-development, mobilizes resources for changing particular space, and institutionalizes modem systems of socio-spatial control at a local scale. In this sense, it is particularly interesting to look at how the nation-state, faced with the deterritorialization of labor and capital, reterritorializes overseas resources and networks for the purpose of development. By problematizing the Overseas Koreans Foundation as a transnational state apparatus, this paper interrogates the way in which its institutionalized practices conjure up the national imagination, ethnic solidarity, and collective allegiance to the homeland in diaspora communities. This paper conclusively reports that the state apparatus circulates the discourse of transnational nationalism in Korean diaspora so as to appropriate their resources and networks for securing foreign currencies and investment in the homeland.

Current Status and Major Issues in Securing the International Legal Status of RCA Regional Office Hosted by Korean Government (아태 원자력협정(RCA)사무국의 국제기구화 추진 현황과 과제)

  • Korea's experiences in the use and development of nuclear energy are recognized as a successful model as a developing country in the international nuclear community. With these experiences, Korea is able to contribute to the progress of Korean nuclear industry and international society as a nuclear advanced country. This paper reviews and analyzes the current situation and major issues in securing the international legal status of RCA Regional Office hosted by Korean Government since 2002. In this connection, major political environments and relevant issues in facilitating the revision of RCA Agreement and securing legal status of the RCARO are also investigated. It is essential to amend the 1987 RCA Agreement or to conclude the its supplementary agreement for the securing of the international legal status of RCA Regional Office at the RCA policy meeting prior to extension of the agreement in 2017 and after. It is recommended for the Korean Government to establish and operate the inter-ministry governmental task force teams to facilitate and support the required actions in the national and diplomatic actions in the regional level for the sustainable development of the RCA and RCA Regional Office.

Nuss Procedures using a Transilluminated Introducer (광투시 진입기구를 이용한 너스 수술)

  • The Nuss procedure has good cosmetic effects, but it could be cause of bleeding and organ injury during dissection of the anterior mediastinum. We have made an effort to overcome the defects of the traditional method through the anterior mediastinum, thus we developed a transilluminated introducer that made it safer and simpler to operate within a 1cm incision only. A total of 67 patients underwent the Nuss procedure using the transilluminated introducer. Thirty-six patients underwent the procedure with the transilluminated introducer only (age<4 years). Thirty-one patients had an additional thoracoscopy ($age{\geq}14\;years$). There were no major complications, such as massive bleeding or organ injury in the thoracic cavity during or after the Nuss procedure. Our findings demonstrated that the anterior mediastium could be dissected simply and safely by the use of a transilluminated introducer during the Nuss procedure without fatal major complications, such as bleeding and organ injury.

  • Major components of refinery plants are exposed to various damage mechanisms depending on the operation condition, material selection and kinds of internal fluid. Inspection techniques and damage monitoring methods should be selected considering the damage mechanisms of the components. Hence, it is quite necessary to have an information system with a standardized database on the various damage mechanisms. In this study a damage information system with contents on the damage mechanisms included in API 571 code was developed. Concept of the screening table employed in USA and Japan was also adopted to identify the probable damage mechanisms from the information on operating temperature, internal fluid, metal used for the component and stress condition. This system can be used before the risk based inspection planning to identify key damage mechanisms involved.

  • Shoulder MRArthrography was performed to get an accurate diagnosis about complex anatomical structure in shoulder joint. We carried out how the changes of anatomical rotations in shoulder joint could bring certain diagnosis effects on MRI images for various shoulder humerus positions; Neutral position, Internal rotation position and External rotation position. In addition, we prepared an aid tool in oder to maintain the right posture of a patient. This aid tool was made by adapting Modeling Design Program. By virtue of this aid, we obtained the following result. Shoulder MR Arthrography by the External rotation position for anatomical structure diagnosis was the most suitable in diagnostic evaluations of important anatomical structures in shoulder joint such as Biceps tendon, Supera-spiatus tendon, Sub-scapularis tendon, Labrum and Sub-acromial space.

Development of Inversion Machine Using Wabble Mechanism (워블메커니즘을 이용한 인버젼 기구의 개발)

  • Inversion therapy has been used to relieve backpain, decrease pressure on the discs between vertebrae and stretch musdes as early as 400 BC. Gravity Guidance Inversion Table was introduced in 1960's and has been commercialized mostly for relieving backpain. in United States. But this machine needs to adjusted and possible sudden movement can cause severe injury to the users. In the 1990's, motor assisted inversion cram was introduced in Germany. But this inversion cram is too heavy and inconvenient to be used at home. In these days, the inversion machine become popular equipment in fitness clubs and health care places for relieving backpain as well as stretching muscles. And there is a growing need for home use version of motorized inversion machine. In this study, the motorized inversion machine was developed to be used for stretching exercise at home. The design became compact, simple and foldable as the results of adapting the wabble mechanism. And the machines are optimally designed by analyzing the torques applied to the machine by diverse physical size of users.

NOx Formation Characteristics on Heat Loss Rate for CH4/Air Premixed Flames in a Perfectly Stirred Reactor (완전혼합 반응기에서 CH4/Air 예혼합화염의 열손실율에 따른 Nox 생성특성)

  • The effect of heat loss rate on NOx formation of $CH_4/air$premixed flame were examined numerically in a perfectly stirred reactor. The following conclusions were drawn. Under the adiabatic wall condition, an increase in the residence time causes a remarkable increases in NOx emission. Under the heat loss conditions, however, NOx decreases significantly as the heat transfer coefficient and residence time increase. As the heat loss rate increases, Thermal NO mechanism and Re-burning NO mechanism play an important role in the NOx reduction, but Prompt NO mechanism and $N_2O$-intermediate NO mechanism lead to the increase in NOx production. Although the NOx formation is actually related to complex NOx mechanism with the changes in the heat transfer coefficient and residence time, it was found that NOx concentration can be represented by independent Thermal NO mechanism. From these results, new NOx correlation combined with the heat loss rate and residence time was suggested for predicting the NOx concentration in a practical $CH_4/air$premixed combustor.

$(Ba, Sr)TiO_3$박막의 전기적 성질과 전도기구 해석

  • (Ba, Sr)TiO3 (BST)[1-3] 박막은 유전상수가 크고 고주파에서도 유전특성 저하가 적기 때문에 ULSI DRAM(Dynamic Random Access Memory)에 응용 가능한 물질로 최근 각광을 받고 있다. 하지만, 아직 BST 박막을 DRSM에 바로 적용하기 위해선 몇 가지 문제점이 있다. 그 중 누설전류 문제는 디바이스 응용시 매우 중요한 요소이다. 특히, DRAM에서 refresh time와 직접적인 관련이 있어 디바이스 내의 신뢰도 및 전력소모를 결정하는 주된 인자가 된다. 지금까지, BST 박막의 인가전업, 온도, 그리고 전극물질에 따른 누설전류 현상들이 고찰되었고, 이에 관한 많은 전도기구 모델들이 제시되었다. Schottky emission, Poole-Frenkel emission, space charge limited conduction 등이 그 대표적인 예이다. 하지만 아쉽게도 BST 박막의 정확한 누설 전류 전도 기구를 완전히 설명하는데는 아직 한계가 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 제작된 BST 커패시터 내의 기본적인 전기적 성질을 조사하고, 정확한 누설전류 기구 규명에 초점을 두고자 한다. 이를 위해 기존의 여러 기구들과 비교 분석할 것이다. 하부전극으로 사용하기 위해 스퍼터링 방법으로 p-Si(100) 기판위에 RuO2 박막을 약 120nm 증착하였다. 증착전의 chamberso의 초기압력은 5$\times$10-6 Torr이하의 압력으로 유지시켰다. Ar/O2의 비는 이전 실험에서 최적화된 9/1로 하였다. BST 박막 증착 시 5분간 pre-sputtering을 실시한 후 하부전극 기판위에 BST 박막을 증착하였다. 증착이 끝난 후 시편을 상온까지 냉각시킨 후 꺼내었다. 전기적 특성을 측정하기 상부전극으로 RuO2와 Al 박막을 각각 상온에서 100nm 증착하였다. 이때 hole mask를 이용하여 반경이 140um인 원형의 상부전극을 증착하였다. BST 박막의 증착온도가 증가하고 Ar/O2 비가 감소할수록 제작된 BST-커패시터의 전기적 성질이 우수하였다. 증착온도 $600^{\circ}C$, ASr/O2=5/5에서 증착된 막의 누설전류는 4.56$\times$10-8 A/cm2, 유전상수는 600 정도의 값을 나타내었다. 인가전압에 따른 BST 커패시터의 transition-current는 Curie-von Schweider 모델을 따랐다. BST 박막의 누설전류 전도기구는 기존의 Schottky 모델이 아니라 modified-Schottky 무델로 잘 설명되었다. Modified-Schottky 모델을 통해 BST 박막의 광학적 유전율 $\varepsilon$$\infty$=4.9, 이동도 $\mu$=0.019 cm2/V-s, 장벽 높이 $\psi$b=0.79 eV를 구하였다.

Separation Device Development and Flight Test for Marine Recovery of Scientific Balloon (과학기구 기낭의 해상 회수를 위한 분리장치 개발 및 비행시험)

  • The Scientific balloon is a flight system that could recover an entire platform at the end of the mission. The recovery takes place mainly in low-density populated areas, taking into account for the possible damage to the human life and public safety. In Republic of Korea, on the other hand, marine recovery should be considered due to the dense mountainous terrain and restrictions of the peninsula. In this operating environment, the envelope must be recovered because of severe marine pollution that may occur after the splashdown. Therefore, in this study, the separation device that consists of a location tracker and the waterproof system were developed. The device includes data transmission/reception, separation, and waterproof systems which are manufactured considering the environmental condition of the Korea. The performance of the device and the trajectory of the envelope were verified by conducting a separation test of a 20km platform at a target altitude and the recovery of the zero-pressure balloon.
