The study of awareness and practice of infection control on dental practitioners during the prosthodontic treatment (치과 보철물 제작 과정에서 감염 관리에 관한 치과 종사자의 인지도 및 실천도에 대한 연구)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the degree of awareness and actual practice of dental practitioners regarding infection control during prosthodontic treatment. Materials and methods: Study participants were composed of dentists, dental hygienists, dental technicians working at dental university hospital, general hospital, dental hospital and dental clinics in Daejeon, Korea (n=126). The questionnaires included the data on general characteristics, education, awareness and practice of infection control procedures during prosthodontic treatment through personal self-administration survey. Awareness and practice were measured by Likert scale ranging from 1 to 5. Statistical analysis was done by one-way ANOVA. Influence of awareness on practice was estimated by regression analysis. Results: 27.7% of the respondents answered that the infection control education regarding prosthodontic treatment is insufficient. The mean value of awareness and practice of infection control during the prosthodontic treatment were $2.72{\pm}0.80$, $1.58{\pm}0.88$, respectively. The mean value of practice who answered that had education curriculum at college was $1.62{\pm}0.9$, and $1.31{\pm}0.49$ who did not. The mean value of awareness who equipped guideline was $3.01{\pm}0.9$, and $2.56{\pm}0.70$ who did not. Conclusion: 1. The respondents who received the infection control education by college curriculum showed higher degree of practice than the respondents who did not. 2. The respondents who have appropriate infection control guidebook in their workplace showed higher degree of awareness than the respondents who did not. 3. There was a correlation between the awareness and practice of infection control during prosthodontic treatment; the degree of awareness becomes higher, so does the degree of practice. 4. During the prosthodontic treatment, the degree of practice was lower than the degree of awareness on infection control.

Reactivities of Di-iso-butylnitrosoamine by Anodic Film Formed on Metals (산화피막전극을 이용한 디이소부틸니트로소아민의 전극반응)

  • To investigate the characteristics of anodic film formed on metals and the reactivities of organic inhibitor Di-iso-butylnitrosoamine (DBNA) in sea water. the cathodic reactions of anodic film formed on metals were carried out by using the potential drop method and galvanostatic method at $25^{\circ}C$. The investigated results are as follows: The anodic films formed on aluminum and zinc in 60mM $DBNA+9\%_{\circ}$ sea water did not show-changes of potential drop. However, those formed on lead and copper were reasonable electrodes. It was concluded that cathodic reactivities of proton through the anodic film in aqueous solution were constant without regard to the kinds of metals used with anodic film electrode at operated current density ranges, because the values of transition time obtained in 0.5M sodium chloride solution and $9\%_{\circ}$ sea water nearly coincided. The values of transition time of the first step by the galvanostatic method were obtained from 0.22 to 1.40 sec ranges far less than one minute. Therefore, it suggested that cathodic reactions of proton through the anodic film were mainly controlled by diffusion/adsorption process. The differences of between $\tau_{1}/4$ in $9\%_{\circ}$ sea water and $\tau_{1}/4$ in 60mM $DBNA+9\%_{\circ}$ sea water, and between $E_{1}/4$ in sea water and $E_{1}/4$ in 60mM $DBNA+9\%_{\circ}$ sea water at the constant current density with $1.9\times10^{-4}\sim5.0{\times}10^{-6}\;amp/cm^2$ were 0.06 sec and 0.53 v. respectively and cathodic reactions of DBNA on the anodic film electrodes were chiefly controlled by adsorption/diffusion process. The reason that adsorption quantities of proton on anodic film formed on aluminum and zinc in aqueous solutions were much more than those on lead and copper, seems to lie due mostly to the number of porosity produced on anodic film used.

A Principal Component Analysis for the Morphological Characters of Diploid and Triploid Populations of Lilium lancifolium in Korea (한국산 참나리 2, 3배체 집단에 대한 주성분 분석)

  • To clarify the morphological and geographical differentiation among the polyploid complexes of L. lancifolium collections in Korea, the mo게hological variation of 173 accessions were analyzed by ANOVA (one-way analysis of variance) and PCA (principal component analysis) on the basis of 38 morphological characters. 173m accessions were grouped into 78 diploids and 95 triploids by ploid levels and the triploids separated into 75 inland triploids (all around the Korea) and 20 island triploids (Backryung-do and Sochung-do, westemmost and northernmost islands of Korea) by geographic distribution and morphology. Island triploids showed significant morphological differences with inland triploids in ANOVA by many floral and leaf characters. In PCAs, diploids were separated from inland triploids by having longer plant height, smaller flower characters, higher pollen fertility and more stomata. The first four principal components accounted for 44.1% of the total variation. Plots of the island and inland groups for the first and second principal components separated each other with slight overlapping. Although the ploid forms are different between diploid and island triploid, island triploids were more closely overlapped with diploids by principal component 1 and 2 than inland triploids. This reflects that the whole external morphology of island triploids are similar to that of diploids. This, the phenotypic differentiation between inland and island triploids seems to be partly related to their geographical origins.

Aesthetic value of Sijo should be found in the expression forms such as phonetic harmony, rules of versification, rhythm, and etc. Then, we can overcome modern society's pathological phenomena such as severance, separation, dissolution, estrangement, psychiatric syndrome and etc. which visual media superiority brought. At the same time. it will cure ills of modern poems, Sijo and writing epochally and can establish true happiness and development.

Radiation Effect of X-Ray and Thermal Neutron on Robinia pseudoacacia L. and Some Other Species (아까시나무외 몇 수종(樹種)에 대(對)한 X-Ray와 Thermal Neutron의 조사효과(照射効果))

  • In an effort to improve the major tree species in Korea, the seed of Robinia pseudoacacia, Pinus rigida, Pinus densiflora, Pinus thunbergii and Larix leptolepis were treated with X-ray and thermal neutron at the Brookhaven National Laboratory, and germination rate of the seed and some characteristics of the seedlings from irradiated seed were investigated and the results were summarized as follows. 1. The germination rate of the irradiated seed of Robinia pseudoacacia, Pinus densiflora, Pinus thunbergii and Pinus rigida was decreased, when the irradiation time of thermal neutron increased from 3 hours to 9 hours. The seed of Larix leptolepis was completely died out in all range of irradiation time. 2. The seed of Pinus densiflora, Robinia pseudoacacia and Pinus rigida showed low germination rate, when the dosage of radiation increased in the range of 10,000r-30,000r X-ray. This dosage of radiation was almost lethal to the seed of Pinus thunbergii and Larix leptolepis. 3. The growth rate of radiated Robinia pseudoacacia has been decreased when the dosage of X-ray and thermal neutron increased. However, the trees treated with thermal neutron for 3 hours showed 14.9 percent-increase in seedling height and some thornless individuals appeared in this treatment. 4. Individuals with variegated leaf, rugose leaf and albino were appeared in X-ray and thermal neutron treatment. 5. Abnormal mitosis of somatic cell, cell with two nucleoli, cell with two nuclei and chromosome clump in mitosis of somatic cell were observed in Robinia pseudoacacia irradiated with thermal neutron. 6. Resistanty against pawdery mildew was decreased in Robinia pseudoacacia radiated with X-ray and thermal neutron. 7. Length of stomata did not show any difference however number of stomata per unit area decreased in Robinia pseudoacacia radiated with thermal neutron. The leaves of Robinia pseudoacacia radiated with thermal neutron were thicker than those of non-treated one, but width of palisade tissue was decreased. The most sensitive one among those species to the thermal neutron treatment was Larix leptolepis, followed by Pinus densiflora, Robinia pseudoacacia, Pinus thunbergii and Pinus rigida in the order. In X-ray treatment, the most sensitive one was Larix leptolepis, followed by Pinus densiflora, Pinus thunbergii, Pinus rigida and Robinia pseudoacacia in the order. Morphological, cytological variation of the radiated Robinia pseudoacacia seemed to indicate some possibility to be used for tree improvement.

Effects of Screw Speed, Moisture Content, and Die Temperature on Texturization of Extruded Soy Protein Isolate (스크루 회전속도, 수분 함량과 사출구 온도가 압출성형 분리대두단백의 조직화에 미치는 영향)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of screw speed, moisture content, and die temperature on the physical properties of extruded soy protein isolate. Extrusion conditions were moisture content (20 and 25%) and die temperature (120, 130, and $140^{\circ}C$) at a fixed screw speed of 250 rpm. The other extrusion conditions for screw speed (150, 200, 250, 300, and 330 rpm) were a fixed moisture content and die temperature of 30% and $140^{\circ}C$, respectively. Specific mechanical energy input decreased as die temperature increased from 120 to $140^{\circ}C$, whereas specific mechanical energy input increased as screw speed increased from 150 to 330 rpm. Expansion ratio and specific length increased as die temperature increased. Breaking strength decreased as die temperature increased and moisture content decreased. A lower moisture content resulted in a greater color difference. Integrity index increased as die temperature increased from 120 to $140^{\circ}C$ and moisture content decreased from 25 to 20%. Nitrogen solubility index decreased as screw speed increased from 150 to 330 rpm. Nitrogen solubility index was lowest at $2.83{\pm}0.51%$ as screw speed decreased to 150 rpm. In conclusion, moisture content was a more important factor than die temperature for texturization of soy protein isolate.

The Comparison between Single Shot Turbo Spin Echo and B-FFE (Balanced Turbo Field-echo) in the Differentiation of Focal Liver Lesions (국소 간병변 감별에서 단발고속스핀에코 기법과 균형항정상 태세차를 이용한 고속영역 기법간의 비교)

  • Purpose : To determine the diagnostic accuracy of four different sequences : moderately T2 weighted, two heavily T2-weighted single shot turbo spin-echo sequence and breath-hold axial-2D balanced turbo field-echo sequence(bFFE) for characterization of focal lesions. Materials and Methods : During the 3-month period between June and August 2005, seventy-six patients were proved to have ninety-three focal hepatic lesions on MR imaging. The patients consisted of 49 men and 27 women (age range, 15-75 years; mean age, 56.23 years). All MR images were acquired on a 1.5-T MR using the following sequences: 1. A breath-hold axial T2-weighted single shot turbo spin-echo sequence, 2. a breath-hold axial-2D balanced turbo field-echo sequence. Two radiologists performed quantitative analysis. Another radiologist measured the lesion-to-liver contrast-to-noise ratio at the region-of-interest in the four sequences. Results : There was no significant difference in inter-observer variability between the four sequences. The accuracy for both cyst and malignancy of moderate T2 weighted MRI (echo time: 80 msec) was also highest. There was significant difference for lesion characterization between moderate T2 weighted MRI and balanced steady state procession (p-value: 0.004) in the second reader. For longer echo time, the CNR of cystic lesions were markedly increased in comparison to lesions of other component. Conclusion : The accuracy and inter-observer variability of single shot turbo spin echo T2 weighted sequence was higher than bFFE. Although there was no statically significant difference, moderate T2 weighted MRI (echo time: 80 msec) was more accurate than heavily T2 weighted sequence (echo time: 300 msec). If the results for lesion characterization is equivocal in TE 80, the addition of heavily T2 weighted MRI (echo time: 180 msec) can be helpful.

Effect of Die Temperature and Dimension on Extract Characteristics of Extruded White Ginseng (사출구 온도와 구조에 따른 압출성형 백삼의 추출 특성)

  • The objective of this study was to determine the effect of die temperature and dimension on extraction pattern, extract yield, and crude saponin content of extruded white ginseng. The extrusion variables were die temperature $(110\;and\;120^{\circ}C)$ and die dimension (3 holes with 1.0 mm, 2 holes with 2.0 mm, and 1 hole with 3.0 mm diameter). The browness and redness were indicator of active components in ginseng extract. Both were used to evaluate the effect of die temperature and die dimension on release pattern and release rate constant. Browness and redness of extract achieved its lowest value at die temperature $110^{\circ}C$ and 2 holes with 2.0 mm diameter, indicating the lowest extraction rate constant. Extract yield highly increased by extrusion treatment. Extract yield and crude saponin content were the highest at die temperature $120^{\circ}C$ and 1 hole with 3.0 mm diameter. In conclusion, extrusion process has contributed significantly in improvement of release rate of its active components.

The Effects of High Air Temperature and Waterlogging on the Growth and Physiological Responses of Hot Pepper (고온 및 침수에 의한 고추의 생육 및 생리적 반응에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of waterlogging on the net photosynthetic rate, root activity and fruit yield of hot pepper. Plants were grown in two greenhouses: extractor fans and side ventilators began to operate when the inside temperature reached $25^{\circ}C$ in one greenhouse and $35^{\circ}C$ in the other. Waterlogging treatments were performed 54 days after transplanting (when fruit setting at the second flower truss was complete). The plot in each greenhouse was divided into five sections, and each section was watered for 0, 12, 24, 48 or 72 h using drip irrigation. Plants under $25^{\circ}C$ and non - waterlogging treatment exhibited in the greatest growth among treatments. Plant growth generally decreased as the waterlogging period increased. The net photosynthetic rate was highest under non - waterlogging and $25^{\circ}C$ treatment and lowest under 72 h waterlogging and $25^{\circ}C$ treatment. The root activity decreased as the waterlogging period increased, except for plants under 72 h waterlogging treatment at $35^{\circ}C$. The number and weight of red pepper fruits per plant were highest under non - waterlogging treatment at $35^{\circ}C$. The greatest fruit yield was also observed under non - waterlogging treatment at $35^{\circ}C$, with production reaching 3,697 kg / 10a. At the appropriate temperature for hot pepper ($25^{\circ}C$), yields were reduced by 25 - 30% under 12, 24 and 48 h waterlogging treatment compared to non - waterlogging treatment. These results indicate that longer waterlogging periods reduce the growth, net photosynthetic rate, root activity and yields of hot pepper. However, the net photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance of hot pepper plants grown under 72 h waterlogging treatment recovered nine days after growth under normal growth conditions.

Relativeness between Growth and Bio-informations of Aeroponically Grown Tomato as Influenced by Spray Intervals of Nutrient Solution (양액의 분무간격에 따른 분무경재배 토마토의 생장 및 생체정보와의 관련성)

  • This experiment was carried oui to determine the relativeness between growth, yield characters and bio-informations as influenced by the spray and rest time intervals of nutrient solution. Tomato(Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) were grown in aeroponic system on a misting schedule of continuously 60 sec, 30 sec and 10 sec at 10 min intervals with full strength Yamazaki's solution recommended for tomato production. The results obtained were as follows : 1. Leaf area was highest in the plot of 30 sec spray and 10 min rest while the forest one was the plot of 60 sec spray and 10 min rest. Growth characteristics in terms of dry weight of each organ, number of flower, number of flower setted and fruit dry weight were greater in the plot of 30 sec spray and 10 min rest than the other treatments. 2. The number of flower increased with decreasing dry weight but number of flower sorted was not significantly different among treatment except for the plot of 60 sec spray and 10 min rest. 3. Leaf dry weight and fruit dry weight were highly correlated so that 30 sec spray and 10 min rest plot which is the highest fruit dry weight showed the largest leaf area. Continuously sprayed plot reduced markedly the fruit dry weight compared with leaf area. Optimum spray and rest time of nutrient solution in the range of this experiment was determined as 30 sec spray and 10 min rest. 4. Solar radiation within glasshouse during daytime reduced severely compared with outdoor one and air temperature within greenhouse was higher than the leaf temperature of tomato plant. The changes of environmental factors, solar radiation, temperature were accompanied with the sensitive change of bio-informations of tomato leaf Especially differences of spray intervals of nutrient solution affected greatly to the changes of bio-informations : leaf water potential, stomatal resistance and leaf temperature etc. 5. The changing patterns of leaf growth as influenced by the spray and rest intervals of nutrient solution were closely related to the leaf water potential, stomatal resistance and leaf temperature. Feasibility was demonstrated that measurement of bio-information of tomato leaf as influenced by the change of environmental factors could be expected to the amount of growth and fruit yield.
