This descriptive study was conducted to examine self rated health and factors influencing self rated health among e-cigarette smoking young and elderly community residents. The data were from the community health survey 2019 and the subjectis were 2,607 participants aged 19-50 years. Data analysis was conducted by descriptive statistics, χ2 test, univariate multinominal logistic regression using SPSS 26.0 program and SPSS complex samples statistics. As a result of the study, 90.2% of the young and old e-cigarette smokers had a good subjective health condition and 9.8% had a poor subjective health condition. The factors affecting the subjective health status of e-cigarette smokers are gender(p=.006), age(p=.036), income level(p=.044) in Model I, and physical activity (p=.033) and stress (p<.001) in Model II. As a strategy to improve the subjective health status and quit smoking of e-cigarette smokers in the young and old, nursing intervention strategies are needed to increase physical activity and reduce stress.

Background: The incidence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is increasing and the disease is becoming an important cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. It is important to implement evidence-based guidelines by primary care physicians (PCPs) to establish qualified management of COPD patients. The aim of this survey is to investigate the pattern of COPD management among PCPs and to apply it to the development of Korean COPD guidelines. Methods: A web-based questionnaire was prepared that consisted of 25 questions on the pattern of COPD management. A total of 217 PCPs participated in the survey from June 2006 to May 2007. Results: Many PCPs (61.8%) possessed a spirometer, but the application rate was relatively low (35.8%) and more than half of the COPD patients (57%) did not receive a diagnosis based on spirometry. Administration of oral medication was preferred than the administration of inhaled medication for both stable COPD and acutely exacerbated COPD. More than 90% of the PCPs endorsed educational measures to quit smoking and vaccinate against influenza. It was noted that 56.7% of the PCPs were aware of the GOLD guidelines, but only 7.3% tended to fully implement the recommendations of the guidelines in daily practice. Conclusion: The results of the survey indicate that despite the high awareness rate of the current COPD guidelines, deficits exist among the PCPs with respect to the diagnosis and treatment of COPD. The results of this survey should be applied for the development of new COPD guidelines in order to decrease the discrepancy between the guidelines and the daily practice of the PCPs.
This study aims to identify geographical variations and factors that affect smoking rates. The data are collected from the Community Health Survey conducted between 2009 and 2011 by Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other government organizations. Correlation and multiple regression analysis were used to examine the factors influencing smoking rates. For the purpose of investigating regional variations, we employed a decision tree model. The study has found that the significant factors associated with geographical variations in the smoking rates were the rate of hazardous drinking, the completion rate of hypertension education, the experience rate of anti-smoking campaigns, stress awareness rate, hypertension prevalence, health insurance cost, diabetes prevalence, obesity rate, and strength training rate. Convergence-based analysis on geographical variations of the smoking rates is highly important when the regionally customized healthcare programs is implemented. In the future, it is necessary to develop effective program and customized approach for the regions of high smoking rates. Our study is expected to be used as meaningful data for the design of effective health care programs and assessments to lead effective non-smoking program.

This study was conducted to identify the factors affecting breastfeeding in adult women based on socio-demographic and health-related characteristics using the results of KNHANES VII-3. The data was analyzed by applying weights, using the complex sample analysis method of the SPSS Win 22.0 program. Breastfeeding was influenced significantly by age, education level, and the current smoking status. Women in the age group of 30-39 years had a breastfeeding rate that was 3.06 times higher than 19-29 year old women. Also, the breastfeeding rates for women with an education level under elementary school were 4.70 times higher than those with a college degree or higher education level and non-smokers and ex-smokers had levels 2.51 times higher than smokers. Therefore, for mothers under the age of 30, education on breastfeeding should be further strengthened. For mothers over 40 years old, lactation support to increase the milk supply should be provided as well as assistance toward care for other children in the family. Also, better-educated mothers will need to learn effective breastfeeding methods in limited environments such as work-life, and a social atmosphere needs to be established that is considerate to lactating women. Furthermore, education related to pregnancy and lactation should be provided for use in smoking cessation programs for female smokers.
The purpose of study was to obtain the data for development of oral health improvement programs for the high school students by investigation of oral health education experience. Excluding 19 inadequate answers, 279 questionnaire copies were analyzed. First, the analysis results is knowledge level of oral care, the students who smoking or drinking were found to be more than without experience groups (p=0.025). Second, in regard to the self perception of oral condition, the group with experience of proper tooth brushing techniques has statistically significant difference compared to the group without experience (p=0.000). And third, the question about oral health behavior was significantly higher than the group with no smoking experience. The importance of oral health care is closely related to oral health knowledge. It's necessary to provide oral health promotion program and smoking cessation programs in high school students.
This study aimed to analyze convergently the result of the health check-up of the military workers at age of 40, a life transition period in Korea. Data of 4898 military workers who took a health check-up in 2015 was obtained from the national health insurance service and we conducted secondary analysis. As a results, the metabolic syndrome group had a greater current smoking rate, higher number of cigarettes smoked per day, longer period of smoking and higher amount of alcohol consumed. Also, the group scored higher on BMI and had a higher level of total cholesterol, AST, ALT and GGT. In conclusion, as the military workers at age of 40 usually perform important duties, effective programs of reducing smoking and drinking alcohol are needed for their age group, In order to develop health management programs, prior investigation to take into consideration specific age and military rank is necessary.
The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in regions and social environmental factors for centenarians between two countries. The sample sizes for this paper were a total number of centenarians in the two countries. Centenarians from different regions were examined in conjunction with the social environmental factors of the longevity approach. Statistical analysis was done using the Pearson's coefficient of correlation and regression equations. It became evident that centenarians among two countries lived in regions with lower income levels, lower tobacco consumption, lower levels of air pollution, onion and barley productions, fewer motor vehicles, a lower divorce rate, lower unemployment, soybean and garlic productions, and less water pollution. The finding imply that centenarians among two countries lead to a life of longevity is the result not only social environmental factors reactions that have fresh air, clean water and health food but also of health behaviors that have bacco consumption and divorce rate. Also, these support future studies of improvement of social environmental pollution, agricultural products of health food, and health behaviors of nonsmoking for life of longevity.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between antioxidant food intake pattern and asthma control status in Korean adolescents. This study was conducted using data from 1,578 patients diagnosed with asthma among the participants in the 11th online health behavior survey. Statistical analyses were performed for sociodemographic variables, known risk factors for asthma worsening, and all variables which were related to food intake pattern. For final decision, logistic regression analysis was used to estimate the associations between antioxidant food intake and asthma worsening. Male gender and smoking experiences were associated with asthma exacerbation. Low intake of antioxidant foods status also significantly increased asthma exacerbations. Antioxidant food intake and smoking prevention education is important for adolescent asthma patients. It is highly needed to recommend taking fruits and vegetables properly.
The purpose of this study was to identify the dementia knowledge, attitudes and preventive behaviors of middle aged adults. The participants were 297 middle aged adults living in P city. Data were collected by using self-report questionnaires and data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 25.0 program. The mean score of dementia knowledge was 9.0, attitude toward dementia was 2.98 and preventive behavior was 2.22. The dementia knowledge was positively correlated with preventive behaviors and attitude toward to dementia. The influencing factors of preventive behavior were smoking, drinking, dementia knowledge and monthly income. The explanation power was 39%. These result suggest that in order to promote dementia preventive behaviors of middle aged adults, an education program should be develop to improve dementia knowledge including no smoking and reduce alcohol drinking.
