The purpose of this study was to evaluate the tobacco cessation activities of the dental staffs in Wonju city. All 137 subjects were surveyed by structured questionnaire with convenience sampling. The distribution and correlation of attitude, behavior, and intervention were evaluated by both frequency test and ANOVA test. 75.2% of total subjects responded that the dental staff should give a model through prohibition of smoking and 66.5% responded that tobacco cessation activities should be responsibility of the dental staff. Tobacco cessation counsel was performed by little but with positive attitude. Advice method of tobacco cessation was used to counsel on tobacco cessation (68.6%). The dentists (48.2%) and dental hygienists (23.4%) were responded adequate for the tobacco cessation counselor, however, it was shown that the dentist had lower level of attitude about tobacco cessation than dental hygienist (p<0.01). The dental staff needs to participate in the tobacco cessation counseling program more regularly and actively. In order for the dental staffs gets the counsel effectively and intervene with tobacco cessation, it is essential that the education of tobacco cessation is integrated in dental school. Furthermore, it is necessary for the dental staffs to take continuing education for more effective understanding of tobacco cessation.
The present study purposed to survey dental hygiene students who will play important roles in guidance and to utilize the data as basic information for setting the direction of dental hygienists' efficient guidance for antismoking and developing antismoking education programs. For this purpose, a survey was conducted with 400 students at the Department of Dental Hygiene in Daejeon, Jollabuk-do and Jollanam-do during the period from May 19 to June 14 in 2008, and drew conclusions as follows: As to correlations among self-efficacy, smoking knowledge, and perception on guidance for antismoking, positive correlation was observed between self-efficacy and smoking knowledge (r=0.102), between self-efficacy and perception on guidance for antismoking (r=0.272), and between smoking knowledge and perception on guidance for antismoking (r=0.352). As to factors affecting perception on guidance for antismoking, the effect was high in order of perception on smoking, smoking knowledge, and self-efficacy. That is, perception on guidance for antismoking was more positive in those who thought that smoking must not be allowed, those with high smoking knowledge, and those with high self-efficacy. For dental hygienists' clinical activities for efficient prevention of smoking and guidance for antismoking, it is necessary to develop curriculums containing various practical contents.
Purposes: The purposes of this descriptive correlational study were to assess knowledge and attitude toward smoking and smoking cessation counseling activity among nurses in a community, and to identify predictors of their smoking cessation counseling activity. Method: Nurses employed by institutions such as university hospital, hospital, clinic, and health department in a community were surveyed using a structured questionnaire. Of the nurses invited to participate in this study, 760 (88.5%) responded with completed questionnaires. Results: Nurses had relatively positive attitude toward their roles and responsibilities about smoking cessation counseling activity. However, smoking cessation counseling activity was not a routine part of their nursing practice. Moreover, the level of engagement with smoking cessation counseling activity was significantly different by working place. Nurses who were working at the university hospital, hospital, and health department were more actively engaged with smoking cessation counseling activity than nurses who were working at the clinic. Smoking cessation counseling activity was significantly correlated with knowledge of smoking. attitudes toward smoking-related issues, and self-efficacy for smoking cessation counseling activity. In the final stepwise multiple regression, smoking cessation activity was predicted by the nurses' working place, attitudes toward smoking-related issues, and self-efficacy for counseling knowledge and skills. Conclusion: In conclusion, nurses need to participate routinely and actively in smoking cessation counseling activity. To help nurses counsel and intervene patients regarding smoking cessation more effectively, it is essential to integrate educational information on smoking cessation intervention into curriculums of nursing schools as well as to offer smoking cessation intervention as a continuing education program available for currently practicing nurses.
The objective of this study is to describe the frequency of workplace health promotion activites. For this objective, questionaire was requested to 648 trainees of Korea Industrial Safety Corporation. Respondents' positions were safety manager, health care manager, or representatives of employee. Major findings are as follows: 1) Of responding workplaces, 66.2% supported the activities related to promote employees' health. The support rate was higher of Manufacturing and Tranport than others. And the lager workplaces had the higher support rate. 2) Most frequent activity is exercise program. But the prevalence of smoking cessation, stress management, nutrition education and women health care was very low. Major contents of support were to pay the cost of these activites and to equip the places or the facilities. 3) 24.9% had the non-smoking policy in the workplace. 98.6% equiped the places and facilities for employees. Mean number of facilities across all workplaces was 2.96 and that of exercise circles was 3.60. In conclusion, it was suggested that the stratege was needed to develop the Korean model for workplace health promotion on the basis of exisiting activites.
Purposes: The purposes of this study were to investigate the smoking cessation counselling activities among community health practitioners(CHP) and to identify the predictors of their smoking cessation counselling activities. Method: A descriptive-correlation study using self-administered questionnaires was conducted. Questionnaires were mailed to all the CHP in a community. A total of 330 CHPs participated in this survey. Results: Of the CHPs surveyed, 245(74.2%) returned completed questionnaires. Most CHPs(90.7%) believed that if a health professional advises their patient to quit, the patient's chances of quitting smoking are increased. While the majority of CHPs “asked, advised, and assessed” their clients, a minority of CHPs “assisted, arranged, and recorded”. In the final stepwise multiple regression model, attitude about smoking cessation policies and counselling activities, self-efficacy of smoking cessation counselling knowledge and skills, and perceived barriers of smoking cessation counselling activities were identified as significant predictors of smoking cessation counselling activities among CHPs. Conclusion: Smoking cessation counselling activities are not a routine part of CHP practice. Efforts should be made to increase the self-efficacy of smoking cessation counselling knowledge and skills among CHPs. Helping CHPs to overcome their barriers to smoking counselling may open up new channels for smoking intervention.

Objectives : The purposes of this study were to assess the smoking status, knowledge and attitude related to smoking and smoking cessation activity of the physicians in a community, and to identify their predictors of smoking cessation activity. Method : All physicians employed by various health facilities in a community were surveyed using a structured questionnaire. Of the physicians surveyed,523 (69.6%) returned completed questionnaires. Results : The smoking rate of physicians was 29.3% (34.2% in males, 3.6% in females) and the knowledge and attitude scores to smoking were $22.5{\pm}2.4\;and\;65.4{\pm}0.9$, respectively. The self-efficacy score was $3.4{\pm}1.0$ and the smoking cessation activity score was $65.4{\pm}6.9$. The smoking cessation activity was statistically significant with working place, specialty, knowledge and attitude to smoking and self-efficacy. In stepwise multiple regression, smoking cessation activity was predicted by doctors' working place, specialty, attitudes related to smoking issues, and self-efficacy of counseling knowledge and stills. Conclusion : Physicians need to participate routinely and actively in smoking cessation activity. For doctors to effectively counsel and intervene in patients regarding smoking cessation, it is essential to integrate education un smoking cessation intervention into curricula in formal education and to offer continuing education including smoking cessation intervention.
This study, as a secondary analysis research, bases its source upon on raw data from the on-line survey of the Korean adolescents' health behaviors in 2015. This study was conducted to clarify the relevance of Korean adolescents' smoking with their health behaviors and mental health, and thus further to provide basic sources of effective education for their smoking prevention and for program development. The results of the study showed that Korean adolescents' smoking was significantly affected by the adolescents' sex, grades, school achievements, types of schools, allowances, economic status, parents' educational background (p<0.001). Meanwhile, smoking based on the characteristics of health behaviors was significantly different according to alcohol consuming experience, families' and friends' smoking, physical activity and subjective health status, and BMI (p<0.001). Smoking characterized by mental health showed the significant difference in their stress recognition, subjective sleep patterns, depressed experiences, suicidal ideation, and subjective sense of happiness (p<0.001). Based on all the factors regarding youth smoking, there should be development and provision of educational program for smoking prevention and cessation, including healthy behavior and mental health improvement for Korean adolescent.
This research was performed to be used as basic data for educational program development related to smoking prohibition guidance by fording out the relevance among variables of dental hygienists' knowledge, attitude and practice on the smoking prohibition guidance. The formalized research paper which had been used to nurses was revised with a few complements and accomplished through a visit. Both-test and dispersion analyses were performed and a post test was followed. Relevance analysis was fulfilled for the relevance among the variables and the research results are as followed. 1. Likert 3 and grade 2.14 in the knowledge on smoking prohibition guidance of dental hygienists; These results are statistically similar since the higher academic careers are based, the higher grades are obtained. 2. Likert 5 and grade 3.14 in the attitude on hygienists' smoking prohibition guidance activities. 3. High awareness on the importance of non-smoking in case there is no smoker among family. 4. Likert 5 and grade 3.16 in the practice of smoking prohibition guidance activities. 5. Similar relevance among the knowledge, attitude and practice; the higher knowledge, the more positive attitude and the more positive attitude, the more practice.
The purpose of this study is to improve the oral health after understanding the usage status of oral health items and to conduct active guidance for prohibition of smoking. The survey of 326 visitors for continuous oral health management in the dentist from April 2nd 2007 to May $20^{th}$ is accomplished. The data is handled from the SPSS 12.0 statistics program and we can get the results like below. 1. The number of people answering the usage of the smooth toothbrush is 64.5% which is higher in smoking peoples than in non-smoking ones (p < 0.001). Non-smoking people 61.4% answering '3 minutes more' per brushing their teeth is higher than smoking respondents. 2. The more used device is the interdental brush by non-smoking people 36.7% than smoking ones and the answer. 3. The percentage answering 'recommendation in the dentist' in the question about the motive using the oral health devices are nearly same in 69.6 % and 67.5% by non-smoking and smoking persons. The most reason not using these devices is 'don't know how to use this' and the number of smoking guys is 38.7% which is higher than that of non-smoking ones(p < 0.05). 4. The percentage of answering 'regular visiting the dentist', the method for oral health management is 28.3% in smoking parts and 35.3% in non-smoking ones which is slightly higher. From this study, the usage and the recognition of oral hygiene devices of the patient with smoking is a little bit lower than those of non-smoking patients and small difference is shown. So public relations of the effects and the necessity of the oral hygiene devices to all people have to be performed and the education and the activity prohibiting smoking are expanded by the dental hygienist based on the understanding of oral health when the patients are smoking or not.
