  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the association of smoking cessation attempts and the perceived stress level and to identify the factors affecting the perceived stress level of quit smoking. The study utilized the 2015 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, and was applied an Ordinal Logistic Regression to examine the association of smoking cessation attempts and perceived stress level. The current smoker those who experience failure in smoking cessation, were more stressful than those who experience success in smoking cessation (OR=1.72, CI;1.41-2.08). This study identified smoking cessation failure as a major psychiatric factor associated with high perceived stress level, and suggests high stress after smoking cessation failure as one of the reasons why smokers do not reach complete smoking cessation. Also, in order to promote smoking cessation, it is needed to have political approach in reducing the psychiatric hurdle like high stress after smoking cessation failure.

  • This study aimed to identify success factors of smoking cessation for 6 months in Adolescent smokers. Data were collected from January to December, 2008. The 925 adolescent smokers were registered smoking cessation clinic at public health center in Incheon. Data(demographic, smoking, smoking cessation) were analyzed by logistic regression. Major factors are attempting to quit smoking(no trial, OR=9.48), alcohol drinking(yes, OR=4.61), information source for registration(family, friends's ask, OR=3.94), cessation methods(cognitive+behavior+ nicotine alternative therapy, OR=2.45), gender(male, OR=1.78), grade in school(high schooler, OR=1.65), expiration CO concentration (OR=0.95), and nicotine dependency(OR=0.76). Therefore, smoking cessation policy for adolescence should be emphasized on smoking prevention as well as smoking cessation. We have to help the adolescent to succeed in smoking cessation when they attempt to quit smoking at first time. Female student smokers and middle school smokers should be given advice for smoking cessation motives and more times of counselling for smoking cessation. If adolescent smokers have high expiration CO concentration and high nicotine dependency, they should not only take cognitive-behavior therapy but also nicotine alternative therapy.

The participants were nine male smokers with at least one smoking cessation attempt, and who responded voluntarily to the preliminary survey. Data collection was conducted from September to December 2017, and the results of individual in-depth interview were analyzed by applying the Giorgi(2009)'s phenomenological research method. Result: 'Attempt's of smoking cessation', 'Several failed attempts of smoking cessation', 'Desperate need for help' and 'An important factor in the success of smoking cessation'. Conclusion: The present study showed that male smokers were desperate for outside intervention, smoking cessation policies, and help from family members and acquaintances as they tried to cease smoking. Therefore, it is necessary to have a comprehensive understanding of smoking men's experience in smoking cessation, to identify their nursing needs, and provide necessary nursing intervention so that they can lead a healthy life as a member of society without giving up smoking. This study is meaningful in that smoking men can gain new insights by providing a comprehensive and comprehensive understanding of their experience

  • The purpose of the study is to analyze the relationship between the warning picture on a cigarette pack and non-smoking attempt, which is expected to contribute to the negative perception of smoking as a research subject about smoking adolescents. An online survey data of the Youth Health Behavior in 2018 has been used, and 3,722 adolescents who are currently smokers were selected for the study. For the measurement of variables, demographic sociology, health-related, and smoking-related factors have been revised, and multivariate binomial logistic regression analysis has been performed. The perception rate of cigarette warning pictures among adolescents who smoke currently is 84.7%, and among them, the attempt rate to quit smoking is 72.8%. As a result of the multivariate binomial logistic regression analysis, there is a meaningful relationship between adolescent smokers' attempts to quit smoking and whether they perceived cigarette pack warning pictures, and school grade year, academic performance, stress perception, and ease of purchasing cigarettes have been also expressed as meaningful variables. To be based on the result, it is necessary to manufacture to design a cigarette pack warning picture that can be easily recognized by smoking adolescents in the future.

  • This study was conducted to provide a basis for developing strategies to improve the intention to quit smoking by identifying the factors affecting the smoking cessation intention of male smokers living in Seoul who have not tried to quit smoking in the past year. The components of the planned behavioral theory were used to identify the influencing factors. The research data were analysed secondary data used in the study performed by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2020. As a result of the univariate analysis, the factors affecting the smoking cessation intention rate were the average daily smoking amount and the components of the TPB. As a result of multivariate logistic regression analysis, the subjective norm and the perceived behavior control factor among the components of the TPB had statistically significant differences. Therefore, in order to increase the intention to quit smoking, it would be effective to use strategies that strengthen the strong recommendations from significant others and the smoker's self control.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to explore whether there are differences in smoking status between two regions of Wonju-City and Chuncheon-City, Gangwon State, and to determine whether the experience of smoking cessation programs in the region affects quit attempts. Methods: The study design was a cross-sectional study in which adults aged 19 and older living in two cities were surveyed using a pre-developed mobile app to investigate social capital for smoking cessation, and a total of 600 citizens were participated, including 310 in Wonju-City and 290 in Chuncheon-City. The statistical analysis was conducted using chi-square test and logistic regression analysis. Results: Wonju-City had a higher prevalence of current smoking than Chuncheon-City. Among smoking cessation programs operated by local public health centers, Wonju-City had a lower odds ratio for experience with smoking cessation education than Chuncheon-City (OR=0.52, 95% CI=0.33 to 0.81). When examining the effect of smoking cessation program experience on quit attempts, in Wonju-City, citizens who had completed smoking cessation education and used a smoking cessation clinic were more likely to attempt to quit than those who had not (OR=2.31 and OR=2.29, respectively). In Chuncheon-City, citizens who were aware of smoking cessation support services were 2.26 times more likely to attempt to quit smoking than those who were not, but statistical significance was not reached due to the small sample size. Conclusion: Therefore, healthcare organizations in both regions should develop more practical intervention strategies to increase smokers' quit attempts, reduce smoking rates in the community, and address regional disparities.

  • This study analyzed the reactions of ad liking, empathy and psychological resistance to antismoking public advertisements through in-depth interviews of 30 adult males. According to the study, non-smokers responded favorably to the advertisement, while smokers were unhappy. In addition, smokers in their 40s and 50s showed a higher level of empathy for ads than those in their 20s and 30s. Smokers have tried various forms of psychological resistance to non-smoking messages, especially denigrating information sources. Based on the results of this research, a measure was proposed to enhance the effectiveness of the non-smoking advertisements.
