This study is a scientific analysis of 12 bronze materials which were excavated from Sanoisa temple in Chongju. Analysis of crystalline shape, size and distribution of the each sample metal suggested that they can be classified as tableware(wrought), vessels for memorial service(casting) and bell bronze, which is the same result as classification based on elemental composition. Most of the tableware are forging wares with composition of 8:2:0 in Cu:Sn:Pb, and vessels for memorial service are casting wares whose composition is 7:1:2 in Cu:Sn:Pb, and bell bronze's composition is Cu:Sn:Pb = 85:10:5/9:1:0. The result clearly shows that composition is closely related with usage and manufacturing method of wares. Trace elements such as Co, Fe and As are the elements with high correlation coefficient with Cu, which means they exist as impurities in Cu, and the content of As showed an increase in the order of tableware, memorial service vessels and bell bronze. In addition, the analysis of lead isotope ratio showed that 3 bronze materials with high lead content were made from the lead coming from Japan and China. The composition of the solder was Cu:Sn:Pb = 83:12:5 where small Pb crystals were distributed evenly.

The effects of KOH pretreatment and annealing conditions on the interfacial adhesion and the reliability between epoxy resin and polyimide substrate in the flexible printed circuit board were quantitatively evaluated using $180^{\circ}$ peel test. The initial peel strength of the polyimide without the KOH treatment was 29.4 g/mm and decreased to 10.5 g/mm after 100hrs at $85^{\circ}C/85%$ R.H. temperature/humidity treatment. In case of the polyimide with annealing after KOH treatment, initial peel strength was 29.6 g/mm and then maintained around 27.5 g/mm after $85^{\circ}C/85%$ R.H. temperature/humidity treatment. Systematic X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis results showed that the peel strength after optimum annealing after KOH treatment was maintained high not only due to effective recovery of the polyimide damage by the polyimide surface treatment process, but also effective removal of metallic ions and impurities during various wet process.

Welding preheating means that the surface of the base material to which the metal is welded before the main welding is heated to a constant temperature. It prevents the cracks of the adjacent influences such as reduction of material hardening degree by controlling the cooling rate, suppression of segregation of impurities, prevention of thermal deformation, and moisture removal. For this reason, it is a necessary operation for high quality welding. Induction heating is an efficient heating method that converts electric energy into heat energy by applying electromagnetic induction phenomenon. Compared with combustion heat generated by gas and liquid, it is clean, stable, and economical as well as rapid heating. It can be heated regardless of the shape, depth and material of the heating body by modifying the shape of the frequency and the coil with a simple structure. In this paper, we implemented a low frequency welding preheating system using induction heating technique and observed the temperature changes of coil resistance, inductance and automotive transmission parts according to the height of each transmission in winding coil for three kinds of automotive transmission parts. We confirmed that the change of current is a very important factor in the low frequency heating.

Natural, synthetic, and treated diamonds were studied by NMR and EPR. It was demonstrated that natural and synthetic diamonds, treated and non-treated diamonds, high pressure high temperature (HPHT) treated and electron beam treated diamonds could be distinguished among each other based on the $^{13}C$ NMR spectra acquired for relatively short periods of 100 minutes. The $^{13}C$ NMR linewidths of gem quality synthetic diamonds were broader than 1.6 ppm due to the paramagentic effects of transition metals, generally used as catalysts, while the linewidths of gem quality natural diamonds were narrower than 0.5 ppm regardless of the methods of treatment. The linewidth (0.5 ppm) for a HPHT treated, gem quality natural diamond was as broad as more than twice of the linewidth (0.2 ppm) of an electron beam treated diamond. The $^{13}C$ NMR signal intensities of treated, gem quality natural diamonds were as strong as more than 10 times of the intensities of non-treated, gem quality natural diamonds. When correlated with the concentrations of the paramagnetic defects (electrons) obtained from the EPR spectra, the relative $^{13}C$ NMR signal intensities increased in proportion to the concentrations of the paramagnetic electrons contained in each sample but the electron beam treated diamond was an exception. This suggested that the lattice component, in addition to the paramagnetic defect component, should also be considered in determining the $^{13}C$ NMR signal intensity of the electron beam treated diamond.

This study analyzed the influence of folding time on the forge welded bar and hammer scale produced using the traditional refining and forge welding reproduction experiment. In the case of the forge welded bar, increasing the forging time decreased the percentage of impurities and porosity from 26.09% to 1.8%. Additionally, the hardness increased by an average of 36.88 HV. In other words, the microstructure gradually became more precise. For the hammer scale, the amount of T Fe increased with forging time. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed the presence of quartz, fayalite, $w{\ddot{u}stite$, and magnetite. The amount of quartz decreased as the forging time increased. In addition, as the forging time increased, the granular $w{\ddot{u}stite$ changed into a cohesive, long, white band. The results provide information on the characteristics of the forge welded bar and hammer scale produced in the refining and forging process. This information can be used as technical data for ancient steel making processes as well as for future technological systems.

We have manufactured and evaluated reference samples for the use of low magnetic moment measurements. Before the measurements, SQUID magnetometers were magnetically shielded from external magnetic noise. We considered the purity including magnetic impurities, the optimum thickness, the modification method, and the shape in the preparation of the samples. Three paramagnetic polycrystaline metal plates of Ti, W, and Al with the area of $4mm{\times}6mm$ were prepared finally. The magnetic moments of these three samples are measured very linear up to the field of 5 T without magnetic hysteresis. The temperature deviated ratios of the magnetic moments for Ti, Al, and W from 290 K to 310 K are 0.7, 1.5, and 0.1 %, respectively. The measured magnetic moments for Ti and W samples by our research team are very well agreeable with those by two SQUID magnetometers and a VSM at Quantum Design via international round robin test. The results suggest that the prepared reference samples are well suited for the use in the low magnetic moment measurement with SQUID based magnetometers.
The marble-type dolomite from the Jasung Mine, which was farmed by duplicated affects of contact metamorphism and subsequent hydrothermal alteration, corresponds to a high-purity dolomite ranging up to above 98wt.% in dolomite contents. The dolomite contain minor impurities such as quartz, muscovite, and pyrite. It is characteristic that the dolomite is fairy Fe-rich corresponding to 0.4 wt.% due to the presence of pyrite of possible hydrothermal origin. The dolomite is nearly white-colored and constituting with subhedral crystals ranging $0.35{\sim}0.46mm$M in size, forming equigranular texture. Compared to the typical high-Ca limestone from the Pungchon Formation, the powder characteristics of dolomite is rather superior in milling efficiency, yields of fine particles, and size distribution. In addition, except for iron contents, the dolomite powder is no less superior than the limestone in quality and characteristics as fillers with respects to not only whiteness, oil absorption, and specific surface area but also shape characters such as elongation ratio, aspect ratio, and sphericity. This good characteristics of dolomite powder seem to be originated basically from comparatively higher grade and crystallinity of dolomite. Higher iron contents and the presence of sulfides prevents the dolomite from application for uses by thermal treatment, except for metallic manufacture. However, if proper ore separation procedure is available, the dolomite can be sufficiently utilized as substitutes for high-Ca limestone in most fields of filler industries.
In this study, we determine the optimal process conditions for selectively recovering Si from a solar cell surface by removal of impurities (Al, Zn, Ag, etc.). To selectively recover Si from solar cells, leaching is performed using HCl solution and an ultrasonic cleaner. After leaching, the solar cells are washed using distilled water and dried in an oven. Decompression filtration is performed on the HCl solution, and ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission spectroscopy) full scan analysis is performed on the filtered solution. Furthermore, XRD (X-ray powder diffraction), XRF (X-ray fluorescence), and ICP-OES are performed on the dried solar cells after crushing, and the purity and recovery rate of Si are obtained. In this experiment, the concentration of acid solution, reaction temperature, reaction time, and ultrasonic intensity are considered as variables. The results show that the optimal process conditions for the selective recovery of Si from the solar cells are as follows: the concentration of acid solution = 3 M HCl, reaction temperature = 60℃, reaction time = 120 min, and ultrasonic intensity = 150 W. Further, the Si purity and recovery rate are 99.85 and 99.24%, respectively.
The cathodic active material of $Li/SO_2Cl_2$ battery is $SO_2Cl_2$, which is the solvent of an electrolyte. It is referred to as a catholyte, a compound word of cathode and electrolyte. As the battery discharges, the catholyte burns out. And thus, the characteristics of the $SO_2Cl_2$ in the battery determine the capacity. In addition, the transition minimum voltage (TMV) and the voltage delay deviation of $Li/SO_2Cl_2$ battery are due to the passivation film formed by the reaction between an electrolyte and Li. Impurities in the electrolyte, such as moisture or heavy metal ions, will accelerate the growth of the passivation film. Therefore, a technology must be established to purify an electrolyte and to ensure the effectiveness of the purification method. In this research, $LiAlCl_4/SO_2Cl_2$ was manufactured using $AlCl_3$ and LiCl. Its concentration, the amount of moisture, and the metal amount were evaluated using an ionic conductivity meter, a colorimeter, and FT-IR.

In this study, a comparative study is conducted on the synthesis methods for silica nanoparticle employing the silicon sludge waste generated from the semiconductor manufacturing processes. Specifically, acid-washed silicon sludge wastes with no impurities are employed as the precursors of sol-gel and hydrothermal methods for silica nanoparticles preparation. The morphologies and properties of silica nanoparticles synthesized via two synthetic methods are examined by various analysis methods. As a result, silica nanoparticles from the sol-gel method are fabricated with high purity and uniform shape, while the hydrothermal method exhibits advantages in yield and ease of synthetic process. This comparative study offers detailed experimental results on the two synthetic methods for silica nanoparticle synthesis, which may contribute to the establishment of manufacturing high-value materials using the by-products generated in the semiconductor process.
