As buildings are becoming taller and longer-spanned, the requirements of high-strength and reliable steels are becoming increasingly stringent. Structural steels, however, acquire significantly different mechanical properties when their strength becomes higher. In this study, the mechanical properties, welding characteristics, and conformities of the 600MPa-grade high-strength steel were tested. The 600MPa-grade steel plates exhibited stable criterion strengthvalues and showed low carbon equivalents (${\mathcal{Ceq}}$) and composition (${\mathcal{Pcm}}$) as well as excellent welding hardness. In the tensile strength test, all the specimens were found to have strengths of over 600MPa. In the Sharphy impact test, the impact-absorbed energy of the V-notch specimens was shown to be 47J at the KS limit. Moreover, the maximum hardness of the specimens in the weld-heat-affected zone at a normal temperature was the same as that before welding. Their weld metal properties, however, were found not to be as good as those of high-strength steel. As such, the details of high-strength steel must be determined.
The characteristics of anthocyanin pigments extracted from cherry(Prunus serrulata L. var. spontanea Max. Wils.) were investigated at the various conditions, such as light, temperature, organic acid, metal ion and pH. The pigments were fairly stable under the sunlight during the 20 days storage period at room temperature. The pigments covered with the Al-foil, as well as red, blue, green and yellow films, were very stable at pH 2.5. The high thermal stability (over the 64% at $115^{\circ}C$, 30 min) of the pigments in the dark at pH 2.5 was also found. In the presence of organic acid, the hyperchromic effect of red color was greatly increased in the dark at $25^{\circ}C$. Addition of metal ion, such as $Na^+,\;K^+,\;Mg^{2+},\;Ca^{2+}\;and\;Mn^{2+}$, was contributed on the stability in color at pH 2.5 throughout 20 days storage period in the dark at $25^{\circ}C$. However, $Cu^{2+}\;and\;Fe^{3+}$ caused the rapidly degradation of pigments, and $Al^{3+}$ converted red color to blueish violet. The hyperchromic effect of the red color increased, as pH decreased. Therefore, these results indicated that cherry anthocyanin pigments might be used as the potential sources of natural red colorant for foods.
The Al-Cr-Zr composite metal powders were prepared by mechanical alloying and consolidated by vacuum hot pressing. The microstructural characteristics and the thermal stability of the MA Al-Cr-Zr alloys were evaluated by means of microhardness measurement, XRD and TEM in order to develop high temperature, high strength aluminum alloys. The mechanical alloying was conducted in attritor with 300rpm for 20 hours. The density of the vacuum hot pressed Al-Cr-Zr alloy reached at 97% of theoretical one. After exposing at $300^{\circ}C$ for 100 hours, there is almost no variation in hardness change of the MA alloys. Even after exposing at $ 500^{\circ}C$ for 100 hours, the hardness of the alloy was decreased within 6% of the initial value. The fine stable $Al_3Zr\;and\; Al_{13}Cr_2$ intermetallics were formed at the stage of consolidation and heat treatment in aluminum matrix. The good thermal stability of the MA Al-Cr-Zr alloy can ab attributed to the role of the dispersoids, inhibiting grain growth of nanocrystalline, and the final grain size after heat treatment was less than 150nm.
Tetramethyl orthosilicate (TMOS) was obtained by the direct synthesis of methanol with metallic silicon including copper compound as a catalyst and zinc compound as a promoter. The effects of the preheating temperature and the preparation method of the contact mass on TMOS synthesis were investigated. The composition effects of the contact mass which was composed of metallic silicon with copper catalyst and various metallic halide promoters including Zn, Sn or Cd compound were studied also. The best performance on TMOS synthesis was observed on a mixed bed reactor containing metallic silicon preheated with CuCl as a catalyst and $ZnCl_2$ as a promoter. When Cu/Si = 7 wt %, Zn/Cu = 7 wt % was mixed in a slurry phase and activated into contact mass at $380^{\circ}C$, the average selectivity was 87.2% in the silicon consumption of 69.2% at $220^{\circ}C$.
Nickel was impregnated on the $SiO_2$ and $Al_2O_3$ supports and applied to the reduction reaction of CFC-113 ($CF_2Cl$-$CFCl_2$) with hydrogen to 3FCl ($CF_2$=CFCl, CFC-1113). The conversion was rapidly declined on the Ni/$SiO_2$(or $Al_2O_3$) and the deactivation accelerated as the increase of Ni content. However, the selectivity of 3FCl was maintained at around 80% level. The simultaneous coprecipitation of copper and lithium on Ni/$Al_2O_3$ improved both the conversion and selectivity to 3FCl, but an excessive amount of lithium reduced the conversion as well as the selectivity of 3FCl. However, in the case of Ni/$SiO_2$, the conversion was greatly reduced possibly due to a loss of silica support with high surface area by the reaction of $SiO_2$ with HF. Such a reduction in conversion also can be ascribed to the decrease in active sites, caused by the addition of alkali metal compound, LiOH.
The palladium and gold nanoparticles containing PAN-based active carbon fiber (ACF) with a high specific surface area were prepared. Using the BET, TEM, FE-SEM, and XPS, their specific surface area and pore volume, pore structure, and the change in surface oxygen groups with time were analyzed and $SO_2$ adsorption performances were investigated. Because of the impregnating process, the micropore volume was mostly decreased from 95.5% to 30.5~43.7% compared with the total pore volume. And the change in surface oxygen groups with time was higher for the metal salt than the nanoparticles. Also, $SO_2$ breakthrough time of PAN-ACFs impregnated with Au nanoparticles and metal salts did not change compared with that of the non-impregnated PAN-ACF. But the PAN-ACF impregnated with Pd nanoparticles (100 ppm) showed good $SO_2$ adsorption performance as the breakthrough time of 880 sec. These results indicated that the $SO_2$ adsorption performance depended on the change in surface oxygen groups with time and the moderate impregnation of Pd nanoparticles on the PAN-ACF caused the increase in the $SO_2$ adsorption performance by a catalytic action.

The steam reforming of methane over Ru-promoted $Ni/Al_2O_3$ was carried out. Compared with $Ni/Al_2O_3$, which needs pre-reduction by $H_2$, $Ru/Ni/Al_2O_3$ catalysts exhibited relatively higher activity than conventional $Ni/Al_2O_3$. According to $H_2-TPR$ of reduced or used catalysts and $CH_4-TPR$, it was revealed that the reduction of $RuO_x$ by $CH_4$ decomposition begins at a lower temperature ($220^{\circ}C$) and the reduced Ru facilitates the reduction of NiO, and leads to self-activation. To improve metal dispersion, the catalyst was soaked in 7 M aqueous $NH_4OH$ for 2 h at $45^{\circ}C$ while stirring. As a result, $Ru/Ni/Al_2O_3$ catalysts with aqueous $NH_4OH$ treatment have higher activity, larger metal surface area (by $H_2$-chemisorption), and small particle size (by XRD and XPS). It is noted that the amount of noble metal could be reduced by aqueous $NH_4OH$ treatment.
Carbon Black has various advantageous properties such as reinforcement, tinting, weathering, chemical resistance, electrical resistance, etc., but it has poor affinity in the solution. The purpose of this study is to enhance dispersion in the aqueous solution by altering the surface characteristics. Two different treatments were applied for both channel black and furnace black respectively. Channel black was treated in alkaline solution to replace hydrogen of the carboxyl group with alkaline metal, Li, Na, K. Furnace black has few functional groups, and it was treated with $HNO_3$ to increase the number of functional group on carbon black. It was seen that the substitution of alkaline metal on the surface of channel black enhances the degree of dispersion. Also the higher the acid concentration and reaction temperature, the more the number of some functional groups on the furnace black. Reaction time was not seen to be effective.

By the PVA-precursor method, polycrystalline powder of $Li_xNi_{1-y}Co_yO_2$, cathode material for lithium battery, was synthesized. Using the powder as the cathode material, lithium ion batteries were fabricated, whose electrochemical properties were measured. The effect of changing synthetic conditions, such as PvA/metal mole ratio, concentration of PVA, degree of polymerization of PVA, pyrolysis condition, and metal stoichiometry, on the battery performance was investigated. Considering the initial performance of the cell, the optimum stoichiometry of the $Li_xNi_{1-y}Co_yO_2$, synthesized by the PVA-precursor method was observed to be x: 1.0 and y=0.26. A minor phase of $Li_2CO_3$, which was generated by the residual carbon in the powder precursor, deteriorated the performance of the cell. In order to eliminate the minor phase, the precursor had to be pyrolyzed under the flow of dry air. Annealing the powder at $500^{\circ}C$ under the flow of dry air also eliminated the minor phase, and the performance of the cell was largely improved by the treatment.

Freshness maintenance of polyethylene packaging film containing surface-modified zeolite was investigated depending on the nature of substituted cations and cationic surfactants. Freshness maintenance was designed to work by cation or cationic surfactant adsorbed onto the zeolite surface by ion-exchange method. Cationic surfactants such as DODAB (n-dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide), CTAB (n-cetyltrimethylammonium bromide), and DHAB (n-dihexadecyldime-thylammonium bromide), and cations ($Ce^{3+},\;Al^{3+},\;Mg^{2+},\;Ca^{2+},\;Ag^{3+},\;Na^{1+}\;and\;Cu^{3+}$) were used. Surface-modified zeolite powder was compounded with LDPE to produce $20\;wt\%$ zeolite masterbatch (M/B), and the M/B was again blended with LDPE to get zeolite-containing LDPE films with 3, 5, $10\;wt\%$ of zeolite (width: 40 cm, thickness: $40\;{\mu}m$). Mechanical properties of zeolite-containing LDPE films generally decreased with increasing zeolite content. However, cationic surfactant-modified zeolite film showed the better mechanical properties compared to cation-modified zeolite film. As for the freshness maintenance, the zeolite-containing films modified with cationic surfactants or cations ($Al^{3+},\;Ag^{3+}$) showed the best performance.
