A study of the surface color and the making technique of the Gilt-bronze roller knobs excavated from the Seonwonsa temple site (선원사지 출토 금동축수의 표면색과 제작기법에 관한 연구)

  • This study tries to investigate the differences in combination of gold and other metals used in the surface guilt of the gold-guilt relics found in the Seonwonsa Temple of the Korea Dynasty. Our findings are as follows. The gilded roller knobs found in the Seonwonsa Temple of the Korea Dynasty can be classified into three groups by the color of the surface guilt: gold, white-gold, red-gold. By the color it is found that gold type contains $Au\;81.0\%,\;Ag\;3.5\%,\;Cu\;5.6\%$, white-gold type contains $Au\;82.1\%,\;Ag\;10.6\%,\;Cu\;2.4\%$, and the red-gold type contains $Au\;59.9\%,\;Ag\;3.7\%,\;Cu\;33.2\%$. The gold metal used for guilt is found to be amalgam of Hg and the depth of the guilt was uneven with the average of $2.5\~25{\mu}m$. These gilded roller knobs were produced in two methods. One of them was made out of pure bronze, and the other out of bronze veneer and led. Since we found led on the outer surface, we conclude that the led juncture was later guilt with gold.

Effect of Wear Environments on the High Stress Sliding Wear Behavior of Ni-base Deloro 50 Alloy (Ni계 Deloro 50합금의 고하중 Sliding 마모거동에 미치는 마모환경의 영향)

  • The sliding wear behavior of Ni-base hardfacing alloy, Deloro 50, was investigated at the contact stresses of 15ksi and 30ksi under the various wear environments. In air at room temperature, Deloro 50 showed lower wear resistance than Stellite 6 even at 15ksi due to the occurrence of severe adhesive wear. This seems to be caused by the lower hardness and work- hardening rate of Deloro 50 than those of Stellite 6. In water at room temperature, Deloro 50 showed as good wear resistance as Stellite 6 at 15ksi. It was considered to be due to that water could effectively prevent metal to metal contact through contacting asperities. However, Deloro 50 showed severe adhesive wear at 30ksi in water at room temperature. It seems to be that the water could not suppress adhesion wear at 30ksi. At $300^{\circ}C$ in air, Deloro 50 exhibited higher wear resistance than Stellite 6 even at 30ksi. It was considered that the oxide glaze layers formed on wear surface during sliding, effectively prevented direct metal-to-metal contacts.

  • In present paper, we used magnesium alloy having a lower density and higher electrical conductivity for bipolar plate to reduce the weight of PEM fuel cell. The silver was coated to prevent corrosion and form passivation film on the metal surface with sputtering. In acid proof evaluation for setting optimal coating conditions, the homogeneity of coating thickness was improved by coating with the thickness of 3 ${\mu}m$ which not indicated any micro cracks and the temperature $180^{\circ}C$. The performance test and evaluation based on the clamping pressure and channel depth to determine the configuration of bipolar plate for assembling single cell was implemented. And then we assembled single cell with this bipolar plate and implemented the performance test to ensure and compare the current-voltage performance followed as several factors such as coating or non-coating, the change of clamping pressure, the change of channel depth, etc. As these results, the maximum power density of single cell with the coated bipolar plate was 192 $mW/cm^2$ and it was confirmed that the power density per unit mass was better than existing metal bipolar plate.

Corrosion Characteristics and Oxide Microstructure of Zirconium Alloys for Nuclear Fuel Cladding (핵연료피복관용 Zr 합금의 부식특성 및 산화막 미세구조)

  • The corrosion characteristics of zirconium alloys have been investigated in various aqueous solutions of LiOH. NaOH, KOH, RbOH. and CsOH at 3S$0^{\circ}C$. The concentrations of solutions were set to 4.3 mmol and 32.Smmol with equimolar $M^+$ and OH . The oxide characterization was performed using TEM on the samples corroded in 32. Smmol LiOH, NaOH, and KOH solution. The samples were prepared to have the same oxide thickness for the pretransition and post- transition regimes. Considering the trend of experimental data, the cation would playa major role in the corrosion process of Zr alloys in alkali hydroxide solutions. The microstructures of the oxides formed in various solutions were quite different. In LiOH solution the oxides grown in pre-transition as well as post-transition had the equiaxed structures with many pores and open grain boundaries. The oxides grown in NaOH solution had the protective columnar structures in pre-transition and the equiaxed structures with many open grain boundaries in post- transition. On the other hand. in KOH solution the columnar structure was maintained from pre- transition to post- transition. It was considered that the cation incorporation into zirconium oxide controlled the oxide characteristics and the corrosion acceleration in alkali hydroxide solutions.

  • Getters are invariably covered with thin layers of oxides even in air. For the getter to function properly it is necessary to activate them by heating in vacuum during which the oxide layer is removed exposing clean surface. The so-called activation temperature is an important parameter along with gas sorption capacity since it determines the maximum temperature of a device in which a getter can be installed. Nevertheless, no standard method to measure activation temperature has been documented yet. In this study, a relatively simple method to measure the activation temperature based on the ultimate pressure measurement was suggested. The activation temperature of TiZrV alloy measured by the method was between 100℃~200℃.

  • Solvent extraction experiments for the separation and recovery of Re from hydrochloric acid leaching solution of spent super alloy by Alamine 304-1 were carried out. The effects of some variables, such as the nature and concentration of the extractants, HCl concentration, and the presence of impurities were investigated. The synthetic solutions of Re were prepared by dissolving ammonium perrhenate (APR), Alamine304-1, Cyanex272 and $D_2EHPA$ were used solvent extractants distilled in kerosene. The extraction percentage of Re by Alamine304-1 was higher than the other extractants as Cyanex272 and $D_2EHPA$ and the percentage is about 99%. Only 99% of Re was extracted in the presence of Al, Co and V in HCl solution.

  • 모든 생물은 늙어가면서 그 생물체를 이루고 있는 생체조직들이 낡게 되고 약해지기 마련이며, 이외에도 자동차 사고 등 재해에 의해 생체 장기의 손상을 가져올 수도 있다. 또한 인간의 평균수명 연장과 함께 소득 수준이 높아지고 또한 'quality of life'를 추구하는 고령화 시대로 접어듦에 따라, 인공골, 인공치아 또는 인공 고/슬관절 등의 골조직 대체재료의 수요가 빠르게 증가하고 있다. 이와 같은 골조직 대체, 즉 골이식은 크게 자기골 이식(autografting), 동종이식(allografing), 인공재료(man-made materials)의 이식으로 구분된다. 현재 대체물질의 약 58%를 차지하고 있는 자기골 이식의 경우, 거부면역 반응이 없어 임상성공율이 80%에 달한다는 장점을 가지고 있으나, 비용이 비싸고 감염과 통증의 위험이 있다. 또한 시신으로부터 골을 이식하는 동종이식의 경우 대체물질의 약 34%를 차지하고 있는데, 성공률이 떨어지고 질병 감염의 위험이 있는 단점이 있다. 이외에 약 8%를 차지하고 있는 인공재료 이식의 경우, 파단, 독성반응, 마모, 골조직의 remodeling 등이 일어나는 단점이 있으나, 앞에서 언급한 바와 같이 그 필요성이 급격히 증가함에 따라 보다 나은 치료법과 골이식 대체물질의 개발에 많은 노력이 경주되고 있다. 2003년 6월 미국 Financial Times에 의하면, 인체내 식립형 생체재료의 세계시장 규모는 약 650억 달러에 이르며, 매년 200% 이상씩 신장하고 있다고 한다. 따라서 세계 각국의 의학, 약학, 임상학, 생명과학, 공학 등의 관련 연구 분야에서는 이 수요를 충족시키기 위한 활발한 연구활동을 펼치고 있다. 한편 인체내 식립용 임플란트의 국내 시장규모는 치과 임플란트의 경우 2006년 현재 2000억원 규모로, 정형외과, 악안면 성형외과, 이비인후과를 포함하면 소위 'bone-anchored metal implant' 영역의 시장 규모는 4~5조원에 이를 것으로 추산 되고 있다. 또한 소비 신장률 10~15%를 감안하면 향후 시장 규모는 폭발적으로 증가될 것으로 예상된다. 이에 발맞추어, 최근 들어 선진국은 물론, 국내에서도 인체내 식립을 목적으로 하는 생체재료에 관한 연구개발이 활발히 진행되고 있으며, 일부는 실용화 단계에 진입하고 있다. 본 강연에서는 금속 임플란트의 시장현황과 앞으로의 추세에 대하여 조망하고, Ti 임플란트를 중심으로 이의 생체활성을 부여하는 표면개질 필요성 및 최근의 연구개발 동행에 대해 소개하고자 한다.

Fabrication and structural observation of amorphous V-Co alloy by mechanical alloying (MA법에 의한 V-Co계 비정질합금의 제조 및 구조분석)

  • In the present study, we investigated the effect of mechanical alloying (MA) on the formation of amorphous VCo system through solid state reaction during ball milling. Two types of powder samples, ${\sigma}$-VCo intermetallic compound and $V_{50}Co_{50}$ powder mixture, were applied as a starting materials. With increasing milling time, a structural characteristics into the amorphous state is distinctly observed from the structural factor and radial distribution by X-ray diffraction. Amorphization has been observed in all two types of samples after the milling for 120 hrs. DSC spectrum of $V_{50}Co_{50}$ powder sample milled for 60 hrs indicates a sharp exothermic peak from the crystallization at $600^{\circ}C$. The structure factor, S(Q) and radial distribution function, RDF(r), observed by X-ray diffraction gradually change into a structure characteristic of an amorphous state with increasing MA time.

Planarization of the Diamond Film Surface by Using the Hydrogen Plasma Etching with Carbon Diffusion Process (수소 플라즈마 에칭과 탄소 확산법에 의한 다이아몬드막 표면의 평탄화)

  • Planarization of the free-standing diamond film surface as smooth as possible could be obtained by using the hydrogen plasma etching with the diffusion of the carbon species into the metal alloy (Fe, Cr, Ni). For this process, we placed the free-standing diamond film between the metal alloy and the Mo substrate like a metal-diamond-molybdenum (MDM) sandwich. We set the sandwich-type MDM in a microwave-plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (MPECVD) system. The sandwich-type MDM was heated over ca. 1000 $^{\circ}C$ by using the hydrogen plasma. We call this process as the hydrogen plasma etching with carbon diffusion process. After etching the free-standing diamond film surface, we investigated surface roughness, morphologies, and the incorporated impurities on the etched diamond film surface. Finally, we suggest that the hydrogen plasma etching with carbon diffusion process is an adequate etching technique for the fabrication of the diamond film surface applicable to electronic devices.

Microstructural refinement of hypereutectic Al-Si alloys for semi-solid state processing (반고상 성형을 위한 과공정 Al-Si 합금의 조직 미세화)

  • 금속을 반고상 상태에서 성형하기 위하여 미세조직학적 거동을 밝히기 위해, 본 연 구에서는 높은 비강도, 내마모성을 가진 과공정 Al-Si 합금을 반응고 가공하였을 때의 미세 조직과 상온 가공 후 반고상 온도로 일정시간 유지하였을 때의 미세조직을 관찰하였다. 일 반주조시의 개량 원소 P과 Sr을 첨가하였으며 쐐기형 주조재, 압연재, Si 입자강화 Alrl 복 합재료를 반고상 상태로 가열한 미세조직을 관찰하여 초정 Si입자의 형상 변화를 관찰하였 다. 반응고 교반시 초기에는 P과 Sr의 첨가에 의해 초정 Si입자가 미세화 되었으나 교반이 지속되어 가면서 이러한 경향은 감소하였으며 구상에 가까운 형태로 변화 하였는데, 이는 교반이 지속되면서 첨가 원소의 효과보다 교반 자체의 미세조직 변화 기구에의 의존도가 높 아지기 때문인 것으로 사료된다. 냉각속도를 달리한 쐐기 형상에서의 금형에서 주조된 미세 조직을 관찰한 결과 냉각속도가 느릴 때에만 첨가원소의 영향이 나타났으며, 반고상 온도 유지 후 초정 크기에는 큰 변화가 없었으나 $\alpha$-halo가 형성되고 미세한 Si입자가 생성되었 다. 이는 입자 크기의 성장에 따른 주위의 농도구배로 인해 생성된 것으로 사료된다. 압연시 첨가원소는 핵생성과 재결정을 촉진시켜 초정 Si의 크기를 크게 감소시켰다. 반용융 처리시 초정 Si입자는 약간 성장하였으며, $\alpha$-halo도 생성되었다. 압출한 시료를 반용융 처리한 경 우 Si입자의 형상 변화는 거의 없었으며, Si입자에 형성되어 있던 산화막이 기지와 초정 Si 압자간의 확산장벽으로 작용하여 $\alpha$-halo가 거의 생성되지 않았다. 반응고 교반시 미세조직 변화 기구로는 취성파괴, 합체, 마모를 제안하였으며, 각 공정에서의 초정 Si결정의 크기를 비교하였을 때 45$\mu\textrm{m}$ 이하의 분말을 섞어 압출하였을 때 가장 작은 초정 Si입자 크기를 얻음 을 볼 수 있었다.
