  • In this study, an amorphous silica was functionalized with aminosilane, N-[(3-trimethoxysilyl)propyl]ethylenediamine (2NS) and the late transition metal catalysts including ($(DME)NiBr_2$ and $PdCl_2$(COD)) were subsequently immobilized on the functionalized amorphous silica for norbornene polymerization. Effects of the polymerization temperature, polymerization time, Al/Ni molar ratio, and type of co-catalyst on norbornene polymerization were investigated. Unsupported late transition metal catalysts did not show any activities for norbornene polymerization. However, the $SiO_2$/2NS/Ni catayst with MAO system, with increasing polymerization temperature, increased the polymerization activity and decreased the molecular weight of the polynorbornene (PNB). Furthermore, the catalyst when increasing polymerization temperature caused the decrease in both the polymerization activity and molecular weight of PNB. This confirmed that the stability of $SiO_2$/2NS/Ni at a high temperature was greater than that of $SiO_2$/2NS/Pd. Also the longer polymerization time resulted in the higher conversion of norbornene for both catalysts. When the Al : Ni molar ratio was 1000 : 1, the highest activity (15.3 kg-PNB/($({\mu}mol-Ni^*hr$)) but lowest molecular weight ($M_n$ = 124,000 g/mol) of PNB were achieved. Also $SiO_2$/2NS/Ni catalyst with borate/TEAL resulted in diminishing the polymerization activity and molecular weight of PNB with increasing the polymerization temperature.

  • The direct reaction of carbon dioxide($CO_2$) with butane($C_4H_{10}$) to obtain synthesis gas and hydrocarbon compounds have been studied on nickel loaded catalysts. In the reaction of $CO_2$ with $C_4H_{10}$, Ni loaded catalysts showed similar activity with Pt catalyst and Coke deposition on the catalyst was severe by dehydrogenation of butane. The main products were carbon monoxide and hydrogen, when alumina and Y type zeolite were used as a support. Instead, a great deal of aromatic hydrocarbons were obtained on the Ni loaded ZSM-5 catalyst. The conversion of $CO_2$ increased with the increasing molar ratio of $CO_2$/$C_4H_{10}$ on Ni/ZSM-5, Ni/NaY and Ni/alumina catalyst, but the conversion decreased again from the ratio of 2. The value of $CO_2$ conversion was the highest at the 5wt% of Ni loading on ZSM-5 catalyst. A part of cokes deposited on the catalysts diminished when only $CO_2$ gas or water steam flowed into the reactor. The coke deposited on the catalysts was very reactive and it may be an important intermediate for the carbon dioxide reforming reaction.

  • The adsorption properties of the activated carbon-based adsorbents were studied to remove COS emitted from $SO_2$ catalytic reduction process on the integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) system in this work. Transition metal supported catalysts and mixed metal oxide catalysts were used for the $SO_2$ catalytic reduction. The mechanism of COS produced from the $SO_2$ reduction and the COS concentration s according to the reaction temperature were investigated. In this study, an activated carbon and a modified activated carbon doped with KOH were used to remove the very low concentration of COS effectively. The adsorption rate and the breakthrough time of COS were measured by a thermo gravity analyzer (TGA, Cahn Balance) and a fixed bed flow reactor equipped with GC-pulsed flammable photometric detector (PFPD), respectively. It was confirmed that the COS breakthrough time of the activated carbon doped with KOH was longer than that of an activated carbon. In conclusion, the modified-activated carbon having a high surface area showed a high adsorption rate of COS produced from the $SO_2$ reduction.

  • In this study, we investigated the structure and properties of a highly heat conductive metal-ceramic core-shell CoAl2O4@Al micro-composite for heterogeneous catalysts support. The CoAl2O4@Al was prepared by hydrothermal surface oxidation of Al metal powder, which resulted in the structure with a high heat conductive Al metal core encapsulated by a high surface area CoAl2O4 shell. For comparison, CoAl2O4 was also prepared by co-precipitation method and also utilized for a catalyst support. Rh catalysts supported on CoAl2O4@Al and CoAl2O4 were prepared by incipient wetness impregnation and characterized by N2 adsorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), CO chemisorption, and temperature-programmed reduction (TPR). The properties of catalysts were investigated for glycerol steam reforming reaction for hydrogen production at 550 ℃. Rh/CoAl2O4@Al exhibited about 2.8 times higher glycerol conversion turnover frequency (TOF) than Rh/CoAl2O4 due to facilitated heat transport through the core-shell structure. The CoAl2O4@Al and CoAl2O4 also showed some catalytic activities due to a partial reduction of Co on the support, and a higher catalytic activity was also found on the CoAl2O4@Al core-shell than CoAl2O4. These catalysts, however, displayed deactivation on the reaction stream due to carbon deposition on the catalysts surface.

  • The influences of reaction temperature, HF/DCM mole ratio, contact time and catalyst type on activity and selectivity of difluoromethane synthesis via hydrofluoriation of dichloromethane over fluorinated catalyst have been studied. It has been found that fluorinated $Cr/Al_2O_3$ catalysts, show better performance compared to pure fluorinated $Al_2O_3$ catalyst and then, non-treated catalysts demonstrate better than catalysts pretreated with hydrogen and air. The results show that the optimum reaction conditions are found as follows : reaction temperature at $340^{\circ}C$, mole ratio of HF/DCM 5 or above and contact time 20 sec. or above. With these conditions the maximum attainable yield of difluoromethane has been found to be greater than 80%. In particular, the activity and the selectivity of difluoromethane do not change with the reaction time on stream up to 8 hours.

  • In this study, the decomposition performance of ammonia dinitramide (ADN) based liquid monopropellant was evaluated by using metal supported alumina bead catalyst. Alumina bead was calcined at $1200^{\circ}C$, and Pt and Cu were impregnated on alumina bead by excess water impregnation using a rotary evaporator. The decomposition temperature ($T_{dec}$) of ADN-based liquid monopropellant was measured in a home-made batch reactor. The decomposition temperature of Cu/$Al_2O_3$ catalyst was lower than that of Pt/$Al_2O_3$ catalyst, and $T_{dec}$ was about $130^{\circ}C$.

  • Solid base catalysts for biodiesel production were synthesized by impregnating basic metal species on two support materials with large specific surface area : zeolite and pyrolysis char. KL zeolite and Undaria pinnatifida char were impregnated with KOH aqueous solution and calcium nitrate solution, respectively, to enhance the basic strength. The catalysts synthesized were characterized using Hammett indicators and $CO_2$-TPD analysis. Biodiesel was produced using soybean oil and methanol over the catalysts synthesized. The content of fatty acid methyl esters was measured to evaluate the catalytic activity. Generally, the catalytic activity increased with increasing quantity of basic metal impregnated but impregnation of excessive amount of metal could cause reduction in the activity.

  • [ $M/Al_2O_3$ ] (M = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu) catalysts supported on commercial alumina ($Al_2O_3$) were prepared by an impregnation method, and were applied to the hydrogen production by auto-thermal reforming of ethanol. It was revealed that each catalyst retained its own metallic phase and product distribution strongly depended on the identity of active metal. Among the catalysts prepared, $Ni/Al_2O_3$ and $Co/Al_2O_3$ showed the best catalytic performance in the auto-thermal reforming of ethanol. However, the reaction mechanisms over these two catalysts were different. Ni/Al_2O_3 catalyst showed 100% ethanol conversion at $500^{\circ}C$, but it exhibited a rapid decrease in hydrogen selectivity. Although $Co/Al_2O_3$ catalyst showed an excellent performance in hydrogen selectivity, on the other hand, no significant improvement in hydrogen yield was observed due to the low ethanol conversion over the catalyst.

  • Passive autocatalytic recombiner (PAR) is considered as an explosive gas control system in operating NPP plants. This work investigates and evaluates hydrogen recombination performance over manufactured $Pt/TiO_2$ catalysts. When the space velocity increases, the hydrogen conversion decreased, while hydrogen depletion rate (g/sec) increases highly in $35000{\sim}100000hr^{-1}$ Gas Hourly Space Velocity (GHSV). Hydrogen conversion and depletion rate with Pt loading is investigated. As a result, there were no differences in the hydrogen conversion, but exothermic heating rate (K/sec) is increases as Pt loading increases. The catalyst showes a high hydrogen conversion efficiency of 80% under atmospheric conditions.

  • The impregnated alkali metal (Na, K), and the alkali earth metal (Ca, Mg) activated carbons were produced from the bamboo activated carbon by soaking method of alkali metals and alkali earth metals solution. The carbonization and activation of raw material was conducted at $900^{\circ}C$. The specific surface area and the pore size distribution of the prepared activated carbons were measured. Also, NO and activated carbon reaction were conducted in a thermogravimetric analyzer in order to use for de-NOx agents of the used activated carbon. Carbon-NO reactions were carried out in the nonisothermal condition (the reaction temperature $20{\sim}850^{\circ}C$, NO 1 kPa) and the isothermal condition (the reaction temperature 600, 650, 700, 750, 800, $850^{\circ}C$, NO 0.1~1.8 kPa). As results, the specific volume and the surface area of the impregnated alkali bamboo activated carbons were decreased with increasing amounts of the alkali. In the NO reaction, the reaction rate of the impregnated alkali bamboo activated carbons was promoted to compare with that of the bamboo activated carbon [BA] in the order of BA(Ca)> BA(Na)> BA(K)> BA(Mg) > BA. Measured the reaction orders of NO concentration and the activation energy were 0.76[BA], 0.63[BA(Na)], 0.77[BA(K)], 0.42[BA(Ca)], 0.30 [BA(Mg)], and 82.87 kJ/mol[BA], 37.85 kJ/mol[BA(Na)], 69.98 kJ/mol[BA(K)], 33.43 kJ/mol[BA(Ca)], 88.90 kJ/mol [BA(Mg)], respectively.
