A Revaluation of the Korean Epigraphy's Achievement-Focused on Park Seon-su's Epigraphy (한국 금석학(金石學)의 성취에 대한 재평가 - 박선수(朴瑄壽)의 금석학을 중심으로 -)

  • This paper aims to introduce Park Seon-su's ShuowenJiezi YIzheng from the perspective of Epigraphy, and incorporate it into the fields of Korean Epigraphy. Korean Epigraphy, which now categorized as a study since Kim Jeong-hee's powerful work in 19th century, can be listed either by studies published before and after Kim Jeong-hee's and by name of influential writers who have successfully presented each study and strive for the development of Korean Epigraphy. Earlier studies show that Korean Epigraphy has more books of data collection rather than the books of research on the epigraph. Regardless of the nationality of the author, all books containing Korean epigraph were counted as Korean Epigraphy, and those books made for religious reasons were not excluded from Korean Epigraphy as well. This indicates how wide the scope of Korean Epigraphy is. In this The reason Park Seon-su's research is ignored at present time, which was assessed as excellent in the late Chosun Dynasty, may come from lack of understanding on the ShuowenJiezi YIzheng. His book, ShuowenJiezi YIzheng, focuses on graphology but more broadly it includes translation of Epigraph and Epigraphy which leads to interpretation of scriptures. Such Park- Seonsu's great work must be presented in Korean Epigraphy studies to broaden its scope, also it is important to look for yet unfound pieces on the fields of Epigraphy.

A Study on the Memorial Stone of Yun Gwan (<윤관 지석>에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is analyze physical and textual characteristics on an epigraph, the Memorial Stone of Yun Gwm(尹? 誌石). This was edited by Kim Yeon-Su. On the view of physical point, the Memorial Stone is made of black stone and its size is 25.0cm high, 31.0cm wide, and 2.5cm thick. On the view of textual point the text of Memorial Stone is about the career of Yun Gwan, and the printed style of writing is by depressed engraving on both side black stone plane.

  • 최근 컴퓨터의 급속한 보급과 영상처리기술의 발달로 금석학 분야는 인문학의 범주를 뛰어넘어 문화 정보 공유의 중요한 위치로 자리매김하게 되었다. 본 연구는 국내에서 처음 시도 되는 것으로, 수천년 정신문화 산물의 정보자료인 탁본을 영상으로 입력하여 디지털 데이터로 전환하고, 이를 공간 영역에서 종합 분석함으로 탁본영상 고유의 특성을 파악하고자 하였다. 탁본 원영상은 흑백의 두 영역으로 분할되는 완벽한 이진영상이나, 탁본뜨기 수작업과정을 거치면서 관측영상에는 영역간 색도의 혼재가 발생하고 얼룩무늬와 문양이 전체 영상에 분포한다. 이와같은 영상으로부터 필요한 문자나 문양의 정보를 추출하기 위한 전단계로 영상에 관한 종합적인 분석 작업을 하였다. 분석 기법으로는 공간분석법을 사용하였다. 역사적으로 유명한 대표적인 탁본을 위시하여 40여개의 탁본영상 샘플을 무작위로 선택하였고, 공간분석을 통해 색도분포특성과 영역간 색도 중복 및 영역형성 양상과 특성을 찾아내었다.

  • 한국을 비롯한 동양 금석학 정보 인식의 중요한 매체인 탁본을 디지털 영상데이터로 변환하여 영상 특성을 분석하고 수학적 모델을 구현한다. 이를 위해 역사적으로 유명한 대표적 탁본을 포함한 50여개의 탁본영상 샘플을 작위로 선택하였고, 샘플영상 속에 내재되어 있는 영역특성을 중심으로 통계분석을 시도하였다. 탁본 원영상은 흑백의 두 영역으로 분할되는 완벽한 이진영상인데 반하여, 관측영상은 탁본뜨기 수작업과정을 거치면서 영역간 색도의 혼재와 얼룩무늬와 문양이 전체 영상에 분포한다. 본래의 두 영역은 정보영역과 바탕영역으로 구분되나 이들 얼룩무늬들은 또 다른 영역들로 치부되어 주로 바탕영역에 산발적으로 분포되어 영상인식을 저해하는 요인으로 작용한다. 관측영상 속에 내재되어 있는 영역 본래의 특성과 본뜨기 수작업 과정에서 새로 생성되는 영역들 사이의 기하학적 차이를 통계적으로 분류 처리함으로 관측 탁본영상의 영역 특성의 추이를 추론할 수 있다. 분석 결과, 탁본영상은 영역간 극단적인 확률적 차이를 보였으며, 이 양극성은 곧 탁본 원영상의 속성이 수작업과 관측이라는 훼손 과정을 거치면서도 보존됨을 의미한다. 이를 근거로 영역 특성과 훼손 과정을 수학적으로 모델링하였고 정보영역 추출의 일차적 개연성을 제시하였다.

  • This study is a physical and textual analysis on an epigraph, the Stone Epitaph of Hong Jeong-Myeong(홍정명 지석). This was edited by Lee Deuk-Sin and transcribed by Gang Se-Hwang. On the view of physical point the Stone Epitagh is made of black stone and its size is 27.8∼28.2cm high, 20.3∼20.7cm wide, and 2.0∼3.6cm thick. On the view of textual point, the text of Stone Epitaph is about the career of Hong Jeong-Myeong, and the printed style of writing is by depressed engraving on 8 black stone plane.

Digital Image Processing in Analyzing the Signal Pattern of Rock-Inscribed Letter (디지털영상신호처리에 의한 금석문 음각문자 신호 패턴 분석)

  • 금석문의 영상데이터를 디지털 형태로 검출하고, 영상신호처리 알고리즘을 사용하여 신호의 특성을 분석하고 그 결과를 제시하였다. 대상체는 비석에 음각된 문자로 하였다. 대전 주변의 백제권에서 몇몇 유형의 음각 문자를 형태별로 분류하여 디지털 이미지화한 다음, 문자가 각인된 정보영역과 바탕영역의 신호패턴을 추출하였다. 먼저 칼라 이미지를 grey tone으로 변환한 후, 전처리 과정을 거쳐 이미지의 노이즈나 불명확성을 제거하고 히스토그램 전 영역에 걸쳐 스케일 확장시켰다. 문자가 각인된 정보영역과 바탕영역을 구분하여 무작위로 소이미지 샘플을 취득하고 각 소이미지의 신호패턴을 분석하였다. 그 결과를 중첩의 원리를 이용하여 합성한 후 영역별 신호분석 패턴을 정형화하였다. 유형별로 다소 차이를 보이나 두 영역의 이미지 분석 결과는 차별성을 보였다. 문자 영역은 grey level 범위가 좁고 한정되며 일관성을 보이는데 비해, 바탕영역은 범위가 넓고 광범위하였다. 두 영역의 교차 레벨 범위는 극히 제한적이었으며 패턴 분리에 큰 영향을 끼치지 못하였음이 밝혀졌다. 이 일련의 과정은 알고리즘화되어, 1-2분 정도의 사전 작업만 하면 프로그램에 의해 문자를 추출할 수 있다. 이러한 사실들은 종래 무리한 탁본 작업에만 전적으로 의존하던 금석학 분야의 디지털화를 가능케 할 수 있다.

Comparative Analysis of Three Dragon-man Nicknames Used by Kim Junghee (김정희가 사용한 명호 세 용정의 비교 분석)

  • This study presents the superiority of his calligraphy by analyzing the use, meaning, and calligraphy of nickname three dragon-man(yong-jeong) written by Kim Junghee before and after exile in Jeju Island. Based on the basic structure of the three dragon-man, the relationship between the times, the context, and the characters was studied. Through this change process, the difference of art engineering with other works was analyzed. Kim Junghee intentionally went through a difficult situation by using a nickname with a dragon. He wrote different meanings, uses, and typefaces of the nickname three dragon-man, depending on the circumstances. Finally, Kim Junghee used 'three dragon-man' to King Heonjong and Monk Choui to express his feelings and intentions. His writing was excellent in art engineering and unique in the world. All were found to be supported by his epigraphy insights. The results of this study will be a new methodology for analyzing the meaning of nicknames of ordinary artists.

Analysis and Reference Significance of Mo Youzhi's Letter (모유지의 예서 해석 및 참고 의의)

  • Mo Youzhi (1811-1871) was a famous scholar, poet and calligrapher in the late Qing Dynasty. Mo Youzhi's life was rich in experience and broad vision, especially during his ten years in the Shogunate of the Tsengoku Domain, and he made friends with many political and cultural elites. Mo Youzhi is talented and diligent, and has a good relationship with celebrities from all walks of life at that time, so that his talents have been fully demonstrated. In the Qing Dynasty, the study of calligraphy became the absolute dominant force in the world of calligraphy, and the first great prosperity occurred after the Qin and Han dynasties. In accordance with the times, Mo Youzhi devotes himself to learning, takes into account the calligraphy, and goes out on his own path. Moe's work seal, li, kai, line, especially fine seal. Based on its Lishu, this paper expounds its typical style and atypical style respectively, and also discusses the relationship between its Lishu and other fonts. Finally, the author briefly summarizes the significance of Li Shu for the creation of contemporary Li Shu.In the course of discussion, always based on calligraphy ink, consult the relevant literature, combined with Mo Youzhi's life experience, try to be objective and fair, the listed points of view can be based on.

Study on the Words Carved on Seongdeokdaewang-Shinjong (Divine Bell of King Seongdeok) with a New Viewpoint (신라성덕대왕신종(新羅聖德大王神鍾)의 명문(銘文) 연구(硏究) -'사상성(思想性)' 탐색을 겸하여-)

  • Seongdeokdaewang-Shinjong, the 29th National Treasure, is highly valuable as a study material in various aspects including the histories of ideology, Buddhism, politics, art-craft, Chinese character study, calligraphy, epigraphy and so on of the mid-time of Shinra. Compared with the people's interest in the Shinjong, however, the studies on the words carved on it have not been yet deepened. Such studies have not been yet overcoming the phase of decoding and translation of the words. Today, it is required to analyze and study the words systematically. This article starts with such critical mind. That is why the subtitle of this article is Research on the Background of Thoughts considering that this study must be followed by its 2nd study. This study has totally reviewed the decoding and annotation works that have been done so far. Byeonryeomun (騈儷文: a writing style of Chinese character) has been also studied on its written patterns. As a result, approximately 20 problems have been found and corrected. Especially, such key phrases as '工匠?模' and '日月?暉' have been translated in a new way to spotlight the importance of translation of the carved words. The words carved on the Shinjong are highly valuable to study in the aspect of ideology history. The words fully show not only Buddhist thoughts, Confucian thoughts and Taoist thoughts but also Korea's own unique thoughts, which are all melted in the words without any obstacle to each other. In general, they are highly philosophical words. The words are unique especially in the aspect: They give a meaning to the Shinjong based on the keyword Won-Gong (圓空: circle and empty) and suggest the key point of Buddhist thoughts and governing philosophy altogether. That is, they imply that King Seongdeok's political ideology and governing principle are connected to Pungryudo (風流道), Korea's own unique philosophy. This implication is key evidence that makes it possible to trace the context of transmission of Pungryudo. You should not miss also the phrases implying that there was a big argument between reform group based on Confucian thoughts and conservative group based on Korea's own unique thoughts.
