  • When elementary students write their own sentences, it is often educationally beneficial to compare them with other people's similar sentences. However, it is impractical for use in most classrooms, because it is burdensome for teachers to look up all of the sentences written by students. To cope with this problem, we propose a novel approach for automatic selection of similar sentences based on a three-step process: 1) extracting the subword units from the word-level sentences, 2) training the model with the encoder-decoder architecture, and 3) using the approximate k-nearest neighbor search algorithm to find the similar sentences. Experimental results show that the proposed approach achieves the accuracy of 75% for our test data.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine changes in student writings of claim and evidence after group and class discussions; changes in students' critical thinking; and students' perceptions on an argument-based claim and evidence writing approach. Seventy two grade 11 students from two classes of a high school located in Seoul participated in ten chemistry activities using the argument-based claim and evidence writing approach. Claim scores for 9 topics and evidence scores for 10 topics significantly improved after group discussion. There were also statistically significant differences in claim scores for 7 topics and evidence scores for 10 topics after class discussion. Participant students responded to an open-ended survey that group discussion helped them to figure out the problem context and class discussion guided them to provide with more sufficient evidence. There were also statistically significant increases in sub-scores of the Cornell Critical Thinking Test after the intervention.

  • Recently, the number of children of multi-cultural family is increasing and the achievement gap between city and farming village is getting larger. It will be alternatives to develop e-learning contents which students can study by themselves where there are internet connected computers. As one of the solutions to improve students' writing ability, we developed animation e-learning contents about manuscript paper usage and sentence signs. As a result of applying e-learning contents to students, we can make sure that e-learning contents are more effective than existing means such as workbook-centered education and web contents persuaded by text in academic interesting, satisfaction and achievement. Consequently, we offer this training methods as alternatives which can increase academic performance for multi-cultural family and Korean students who are behind the other students in language ability.

Data were collected from 27 C university students in G-do, from September 1st to October 30th, 2020. Analysis was done using IBM SPSS 25.0 for frequency (percentage), average, standard deviation, and paired t-test. The study showed that self leadership was enhanced by an average of 0.45 points (p<.001), metacognition by 0.87 points (p<.001), goal orientation by 0,77 points (p<.001), and creativity by 0.51 points (p<.001), so was statistically significant. The study demonstrated that writing programs using filpped learning had the effect of improving complex problem solving skills. so the results are expected to be used as basic data for the development of educational programs for traning convergence talents with problem solving skills at university-level. Also, for current college students that can freely access the online environment, development of various e-learning classes that apply flipped learning is needed.
