  • Dongguan City of Guangdong province, one of the core areas of the Pearl River Delta, has also pursued economic development through the geographical advantage close to Hong Kong. In the early 1980s, small and medium-sized multinational corporations related to home appliances industry from Hong Kong invested to the Dongguan area and set up a production factory. In the mid-1990s, as Taiwanese PC manufacturers invested, local industrial clusters have developed in Dongguan with core of the IT, PC components and electronic industries. The case of the IT industrial cluster in Dongguan is a typical example of the development of Chinese manufacturing industry after the reform of China. This paper focused on the coupling strategy case of Dongguan City industrial cluster in Guangdong province, and theoretically compared the endogenous growth factor analysis(NMID) of regional industrial development with the regional differentiation of industry based on external linkage with global production network(GPN).

  • The main purpose of this paper is to propose a sophistication framework for a global manufacturing network (GMN) driven by a mother company to autonomously propagate and coordinate transaction data that are exchanged among manufacturing partners. The framework is based on conceptual fundamentals of previous research that provide a step toward ultimate successful collaboration in the supply chain and employs mobile agents for the coordination and propagation of transaction data. Maintaining the integrity of transaction data linked to a huge information web is difficult. With the sophistication functionalities of this framework, it becomes easy to effectively control the overall GMN operations and to accomplish the intended goals. The current level of sophistication focuses on the transaction data propagation. The sophistication level may be expanded up to business intelligence in the future.

  • Today's individual firms no longer compete as solely autonomous entities, but rather as supply chain. As such the competitive position of a port is not only determined by its internal strengths but also it is also affected by its links in a global supply chin. In other words, port competitiveness is becoming increasingly dependent on external coordination and control of the whole supply chain. The main purpose of this paper is to examine how a port embeds itself into supply chain in order to strengthen its competitive position by focusing on Dubai port case. This paper found that Dubai port used three phases-insertion, integration and dominance-as a strategies for how it can embedded into global supply chain successfully. Dubai's global supply chain strategies give some implications for the further development of the Port of Gwangyang. First, the Port of Gwangyang should fully utilize symbiotic relationship with Gwangyang free Economic Zone. Second, the integration between Korea Container Terminal Authority and GYFEZ can be recommended for fast decision-making and providing a one-stop-service. Finally, Gwangyang should pursue an aggressive supply chain strategy, aims at dominance in the regional port network through port alliance with small and medium ports in neighboring area.

  • By strengthening the market control and expanding the networks, providers of global logistics are expanding their service scope. Warehouses connects networks to between internal and external warehouses worldwide by using employees. The paper focuses on analyzing the efficiency of the top forty Global Logistics Providers. Therefore, the study classifies the factors which specify the efficiency of a total logistics industry and verified its firmness. Furthermore, the most recent published reports by Logistics Quarterly and Armstrong Association in 2012 was used in order to guarantee credibility of the study. For scope period for analysis, this study utilizes three years of materials, from 2007 to 2010. By applying the DEA Window model and Malmquist, the trend in efficiency and stableness was analyzed. Consequently, the main purpose of the paper is evaluating the efficiency. Also, analyzing its determinants and illustrating a long-term relationship between the annual turnover and the number of Industry Focus/Key Customers was used as output measures. In addition, the number of warehouses worldwide and employees worldwide, of Logistics Providers were used as input measures.

  • While global production supply chains are expected to shift toward friendly or allied countries, pandemic-shoring such as nearshoring and friendshoring, due to increased protectionism and the reorganization of regional value chains in the wake of the global pandemic, the study found that economic rather than political factors are still at play in consumer supply chains. In the case of Chinese e-commerce market (C-commerce), the study attributes the rapid growth of the market to (1) related regulatory relaxations introduced to stimulate consumption after the end of COVID-19, (2) an increasing pattern of wanting to consume more for a limited income and (3) unconventional business activities to increase their share of the global consumption market. Through these phenomena, the production-consumption network is likely to develop into a more fragmented form, and the consumption network in particular is expected to become more fragmented, influenced by the digital technology war, a phenomenon of re-globalization.
