Comparison of Muscular Activity in Method with the Application of 3D Printer Maded Instrument Assistant Soft Tissue Mobilization(IASTM) Tools (3D 프린터로 제작된 도구를 이용한 연부조직가동술(IASTM) 적용방법에 따른 근활성도 비교)

  • This study aim to verify the difference in muscle activity due to difference in the direction of the stroking method for the stroke direction of the muscles using a tool made by a 3D printer. The subjects were conducted with 20 healthy adults in their 20s, and IASTM applied the intervention of the perpendicular stroking on the direction of muscle driving and intervention of the pararell stroking on the direction of muscle driving, with 10 each deployed. All subjects measured the muscle activity before intervention, and the muscle activity was measured and compared with the independent T test and the paired T test. The results of this study showed a significant increase in muscle activity in vertical groups, although the muscle activity in horizontal groups decreased. It was that differences in direction are significant in the application of IASTM.

Effects of Scapular Taping on Muscle Activity, Pain, Range of Motion and Proprioception in Subacute Stroke Patients (아급성 편마비환자의 어깨관절 Scapular Taping적용이 근 활성도와 통증, 관절가동범위 및 고유수용성감각에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of scapular taping on muscle activities of the scapular rotators and anterior deltoid, ROM, shoulder pain, proprioception in subacute stroke patients. Twenty-eight patients were randomly assigned to an experimental and control groups of fourteen patients respectively. Muscle activity of upper and lower trapezius, serratus anterior, anterior deltoid was measured using surface electromyography. Visual analog scale was used for shoulder pain. Electro-Goniometry was used for shoulder elevation ROM. Assessment board was used for shoulder elevation proprioception. The muscle activity of the lower trapezius and serratus anterior increased significantly after scapular tape application (p<0.05). The AROM and PROM in the shoulder elevation significantly increased after scapular tape application (p<0.05). The VAS in the shoulder no significantly decreased after scapular tape application (p>0.05). The proprioception in the shoulder no significantly increased after scapular tape application (p>0.05). The results of this study suggest that scapular taping can be used an additional therapy for increasing muscle activity of lower trapezius and serratus anterior and ROM during shoulder elevation in subacute stroke patients.

A Effect of the Shoulder Stabilizer Muscle Activity During a Push-up-Plus on a Different Condition Surface (다른 지면 조건에서의 푸시업 플러스 운동이 어깨 안정근의 근 활성도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the shoulder stabilizer muscle activity during a push up plus on a different conditioning surface. Eighteen healthy volunteers were tested. Surface EMG was recorded from the upper trapezius(UT), pectoralis major(PM), and serratus anterior(SA) using surface differential conditions. Measurements were performed for 7 days. The mean root mean square (RMS) of EMG activity was calculated. A one-way repeated measures analysis of variance was performed to compare RMS normalized values. The UT and PM did not show significant differences of electric activation amplitude in relation to different surface conditions(p>.05). However, the SA showed greater mean electric activation amplitude values on the push up plus exercise on a upper and lower unstable surface(p<.05). These results suggest that to improve SA EMG activity is more useful when performed on a upper and lower unstable surface conditions than on a stable surface conditions.

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the comparison of core muscle activities according to different performance in static Plank exercise. Ten "J" University's males(age, 23.20±0.65 years; height, 174.54±1.51 cm; body mass, 70.00±2.24 kg; and BMI, 22.94±0.51 kg/m2) completed this study as the subjects. Four type's static Plank motions were performed(full Plank, FP; elbow Plank, EP; side Plank, SP; reverse Plank, RP). For the EMG analysis, we measured the core muscle activities of right side on the rectus abdominis(RA), external oblique(EO), latissimus dorsi(LD), and erector spinae(ES). This research's results were as follows. LD and ES muscle activities were greatest during RP(p<.001). RA and EO muscle activities were greatest during EP(p<.001). Therefore, this results are anticipated to serve as basic data for static Plank performance applications in effective exercise programs.

AN ELECTROMYOGRAPHIC STUDY ON THE CHANGES IN MUSCLE ACTIVITY IN DIFFERENT MALOCCLUSION TYPES FOLLOWING ACTIVATOR THERAPY (Activator 사용전후 부정교합 유형에 따른 각 근육 활성도의 변화에 관한 연구)

  • This study was carried out to study the changing patterns in muscle activities in Angle's II and Class III malocclusion patients following activator therapy, To study the activities of anterior temporal(T.A.), masseter(M.M.), posterior temporal(T.P.), and anterior belly of digastric(D.A.) muscles, surface electrodes were placed on 15 Angle's Class II and 17 Angle's Class III malocclusion patients and following conclusions were obtained after electromyographic recordings were taken at prior to the activator therapy and at some time between 6 -12 month after the start of activator therapy. 1. Class II and Class III malocclusion groups, when compared to normal occlusiongroup, showed no significant differences during resting and swallowing. But significant differences were observed in masseter and posterior temporal muscles during clenching. 2. Most of the muscles studied showed a certain pattern, that is those groups whose pre-treatment E.M.G. were lower than the normal value showed significant increase after activator therapy, whereas those groups whose pre-treatment E.M.G. were higher than the normal value showed significant decrease after activator therapy. This pattern was observed in all of the muscle groups studied except T.A.(swallowing), T.P.(clenching) and D.A.(swallowing, clenching) in Angle's Class III malocclusion group and in Angle's Class II malocclusion group, above tendency were observed only in T.A.(swallowing), M.M.(resting, swallowing) and T.P.(clenching). This pattern was less obvious during clenching. 3. When E.M.G. activity after activator therapy between Angle's Class II and Class III malocclusion group was compared, Class III malocclusion group showed more increase during resting, and Class II malocclusion group showed more increase during swallowing and clenching excepting M.M. and D.A. respectively.

Differences in muscle activity by IASTM between a tool made of PLA made with a 3D printer and a ready-made tool made of stainless steel (3D프린터로 제작된 PLA재질의 도구와 기성품인 스테인리스 스틸 재질의 도구 사이의 연부조직 가동술에 의한 근활성도 차이)

  • This study was conducted to observe the difference in muscle activity by IASTM between a tool made of PLA made with a 3D printer and a tool made of ready-made stainless steel. This study was attended by 10 adults in their twenties, and all subjects participated in both the PLA group and the Stainless group, received IASTM. %MVIC was measured by measuring muscle activity after intervention, and this was verified through comparison between groups through the Mann-Whitney U test. The results of this study showed that there was no significant difference between the two groups in the %MVIC value of the biceps brachii after intervention. Therefore, in the application of IASTM, there was no difference in muscle activity depending on the material of the tool, which seems to be that the IASTM tool made of PLA made with a 3D printer produced similar results in the ability to control neuromuscular muscles and the ready-made product made of stainless steel. Therefore, in a future study, the effectiveness of the tool will be verified for the various patient group.

Effects of Low Intensity Resistance Training Speed on Body Composition, Muscle Activity and Muscle Strength in Obese Middle-aged Women (저강도 저항운동의 속도 차이가 비만중년여성의 신체조성, 근활성도 및 근력에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of low intensity resistance training speed on body composition, muscle activity and muscle strength in obese middle-aged women. The subjects (n = 12) were randomly assigned to normal resistance training speed group (NSG, n = 6) and slow resistance training speed group (SSG, n = 6). NSG was performed the for 3 sets ${\times}$ 35 times and total 3-s per repetition (eccentric: 1-s, isometric: 1-s, concentric: 1-s), and SSG performed for 3 sets ${\times}$ 15 times and total 7-s per repetition (eccentric: 3-s, isometric: 1-s, concentric: 3-s). Both groups performed the low intensity resistance training at 30% of 1-RM for 105-s per set, rest for 1 min between sets, rest for 3 min between exercises, and 2~3 times per week, for 4 weeks. The body composition, muscle activity and muscle strength were measured before and 4 week after resistance training. WHR at NSG and body fat at SSG were significantly decreased after resistance training compared with before (P<.05). Muscle activity of biceps brachii, vastus medialis and vastus lateralis at both groups were significantly decreased after resistance training compared with before (P<.05, P<.01). Muscle strength of biceps curl and leg extension at both groups were significantly increased after resistance training compared with before (P<.01). However, body composition, muscle activity and muscle strength did not show statistically significant differences between the groups. Our results suggest that body composition, muscle activity and muscle strength should closely related to the performance time of resistance training (development time of muscle contraction), rather than resistance training speed (repetition frequency).

The effects of muscle activity of ambulance workers carrying a patient on a stretcher with or without helmets (구급대원의 헬멧 무게에 따른 들것 들고 내릴때 근활성도에 미치는 융합 요인분석)

  • Electromygram was measured in three different cases; not wearing of a helmet, wearing of a 920g helmet, and wearing of a 1310g helmet, and it was revealed that there was a high level of muscle activities on the opposite side (sternocleidomastoid muscle) while the head and the neck were moving right and left and muscle activities of the curve and of the hyperextension were found to be not significant. Especially, the presence of a helmet seemed to cause a difference in a level of muscle activities on the deltoid and erector spine muscles while lifting or lowering with a weight placed on the deniz backboard. Therefore, it would be possible to assume that this newly developed smart helmet would not affect muscles around the necks of paramedics if they do not move their necks and heads right and left while lowering or lifting a patient using the deniz backboard. In addition, in case of the deltoid and erector spine muscles, it is shown that an increase in the degree of movement could lead to an increase in the level of muscle activities on the muscles controlling of the corresponding action, which are waist and back muscles. Despite it, it would be possible to prevent possible injuries and/or muscular and skeletal diseases around the lumbar by fully complying with a basic rule of straightening of the waist while making a power-lifting motion.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of wearable sensor wear on the muscle contraction of cervical erector spinae and upper trapezius causing the forward head posture induction in order to reduce the stress induced by the use of smartphone. This study was to investigate the muscle activity of healthy adults in the 20th to 30th generations by dividing them into the control group using the smartphone, the non-wearing group conscious the posture of the head posture, and the wearing group wearing the wearable sensor. There were no differences in muscle activity between cervical erector spinae and upper trapezius compared to the control, non - wearing, and wearing groups. In addition, the changes in muscle activity of cervical erector spinae muscles were increased in all groups, but the muscle activity of upper trapezius muscles were in the wear group compared to the non-wear group and the control group, but there was no statistical significance. That is, wear of the wearable sensor may be effective in controlling the conscious posture, but it may cause the compensation of another part.

Change of isometric contractile force and muscle activity applying ice and hot according to the time on biceps brachii muscle (온열 및 한랭의 적용시간에 따른 상완이두근의 등척성 수축력과 근활성도 변화)

  • This study has investigated the effect of isometric contractile force and muscle activity applying ice and hot according to the time from the biceps brachii muscle. In this study, 20 university students participants without musculoskeletal and neurological disorders. By applying a hot pack 5 min, 10 min, 20 min and 30 min respectively and ice pack for 5 min, 10 min, and 20 min respectively. After that measurement are skin temperature, contractile force and muscle activity. Skin temperature of the hot and cold 5 min applied that rapidly changing. Increasing the time it takes to apply a variance has been reduced(p<.001). Isometric contractile force was not statistically significant but highest when applying the hot pack 5 minutes and lowest when applying the hot pack 30 minutes(p<.001). Muscle activity and median frequency was highest when applying the hot pack 5 minutes. To analyze the above results, it was found that isometric contractile force and muscle activity changed according to the applying time. These result lead us to the conclusion that this study will be more evidence for changes in muscle contraction to apply hot pack and ice pack on clinic.
