This paper presents a new infinite element for modeling far-field region in dynamic analysis of a fluid-saturated two-phase medium. The infinite element method combined to the infinite element method has been effectively applied to several engineering problems where the full space or half-space medium should be modeled. However, the currently available infinite element for dynamic analysis of two-phase porous medium has a limitation that Pl and P2 waves can only be Included in shape function expressing behavior ol the body. In this paper, the infinite element method is extended to simulate arbitrary number of multi-component waves. For this purpose, the far-field of the porous medium is assumed to be a layered half-space, while the near-field Includes structures as well as irregular soil medium. The accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed element have demonstrated using 1-D and 2-D wave propagation problems.

This paper presents a seismic analysis technique for a 3D soil-structure interaction system in a frequency domain, based on the finite element formulation incorporating frequency-dependent infinite elements for the far field soil region. Earthquake input motions are regarded as traveling P, SV and SH waves which are incident vertically from the far-field soil region, and then equivalent earthquake forces are calculated using impedances of infinite soil by dynamic infinite elements and traction and displacement from free field response analysis. For verification and application, seismic response analyses are carried out for a multi-layered soil medium without structure and a typical nuclear power plant in consideration of soil-structure interaction. The results are compared with the free field response using a one-dimensional analytic solution, and a dynamic response of an example structure from another SSI package.
For the last years, it has become hot issue such as disposal of the treated wastewater, which caused by increment of a population and industrial development at the coastal areas. The ocean outfall system discharges primary or secondary treated effluent into coastline or at the deep water, or between these two. The effluent, which has a density similar to that of fresh water, rises to the see, surface forming plume or jet, together with entraining the surrounding salt water and becomes very dilute. This paper deals ocean outfall design which effects to decision-making about marine environment management and wastewater treatment. In order to make predictions of dilution of discharged water and the trajectory of a plume, CORMIX has been used considering several elements including a seasonal and tidal changes. These solutions are strung together to provide basic data and general drawings for effective management of outfall.

In this study, we focused on a speed-up of KIESSI-3D program, which is based on FE-IE techniques, by introducing a p-version dynamic infinite element method. In order to evaluate performance of the KIESSI-3D, numerical analyses for eight real-scale SSI problems are carried out. We considered three types of KIESSI-3D numerical models whose radii of near-field soil region($r_0$)are 1.2, 1.5, and 3.0 times of basemat radius of structure(R). In addition, SSI analyses using the SASSI2010 program are carried out used for comparison of accuracy and runtime against those of the KIESSI-3D. Numerical results show that the KIESSI-3D model of $r_0=1.2R$ is enough to give accurate solution. In view of the computing speed, the new KIESSI-3D was up to 25 times faster than the old KIESSI-3D.
For a comparative evaluation of three turbulence models in the analyses of thermal discharge behavior into a crossflow, a 2-dimemsional near-field numerical model is developed. The selected models are k-$\varepsilon$ and k-ι turbulence models as a 2-equation turbulence model and a 4-equation turbulence model in which the transport equations for mean of the temperature fluctuation squared and its dissipation rate for the consideration of buoyancy production and turbulent heat flux terms are added to a k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model. The developed models are applied to a steady flow in an open channel with simple geometry and the numerical results agree with the existing experimental data. Numerical results of buoyancy induced gravitational lateral spreading by 4-equation turbulence model agree with the experimental data better than those of 2-quation turbulence models. The flow patterns by 4 and 2-equation turbulence models are similar.

This paper presents a dynamic analysis technique for a 2-D soil-structure interaction problem in the frequency domain, which can directly be applied as an analysis tool for seismic response analyses of underground structures, tunnels, embankments, and so on. In this method, the structure and near-field soil is modeled by the standard finite elements, while the unbounded far-field soil is represented using the dynamic infinite elements in the frequency domain. The earthquake-input motion is regarded as traveling P and SV waves which are incident vertically from the far-field of underlying half-space to the near-field of layered medium. The equivalent earthquake forces are then calculated utilizing so-called fixed-exterior-boundary-method and the free-field responses including displacements and tractions. For the verification of the present study, seismic response analyses are carried out for a multi-layered half-space free-field soil medium and a cylindrical cavity embedded in a homogeneous half-space. Comparisons of the present results with solutions by other approaches indicate that the proposed methodology gives accurate estimates. Finally, an application example of seismic response analysis for a subway station is presented, which demonstrates the applicability of the present study.

Geology of the Dogdo Quadrangle consissed of metamorphosed sediments and granite. By microscopic observation the writer divided the former rocks into the feldspar quartz schist, biotite gneiss and sericite schist. The Seoul granite, which has intruded in the feldspar quartz schist, is distributed in the west half of the age Dogdo quadrangle. The Seoul granite is believed to have intruded in jurassic period, but the age of the metamorphic rocks is Pre-jurassic, though the schist and gneiss have been correlated to the Yeoncheon System of Precambrian. Soil samples were sampled from the locations where no contamination of other rockes is permitted. Results of mechanical analysis, PH and soil structure of the samples are shown, Soils from metamorphic rocks have been subjected to more weathering than granite soil though some of them have higher sorting coeffcient.

As an effort to explore fungal diversity, fungal survey was undertaken in 2017 in the vicinity of demilitarized zone (DMZ) located in Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi-do, Korea. For the survey, wild plants and soils were sampled and subjected to fungal isolation. A total of 18 genera and 23 species including five unrecorded fungal species, Mortierella sclerotiella, M. sossauensis, M. verticillate, Eupenicillium saturniforme, and Trichoderma hispanicum, were obtained from the survey. This study described their morphological characteristics including colony features formed on media, light microscopic images and molecular characteristics of nucleotide sequences of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, 18S and 28S rDNA, ${\beta}-tubulin$ gene, calmodulin, and translation elongation factor $1{\alpha}$ ($tef1{\alpha}$) nDNA genes.

Considering fluid-structure-soil interactions, a finite-element model for a liquid-storage tank is presented and the nonlinear earthquake response analysis is formulated. The tank structure is modeled considering shell elements with geometric and material nonlinearities. The fluid is represented by acoustic elements and combined with the structure using interface elements. To consider the soil-structure interactions, the near- and far-field regions of soil are modeled with solid elements and perfectly matched discrete layers, respectively. This approach is applied to the seismic fragility analysis of a 200,000 kL liquid-storage tank. The fragility curve is observed to be influenced by the amplification and filtering of rock outcrop motions at the site when the soil-structure interactions are considered.
