A Study on Oral Health Awareness and Oral Health Care Practice of the Industrial Workers (산업체 근로자의 구강보건인식 및 구강보건관리 실천에 대한 연구)

  • This purpose of this study was to analysis the relation of awareness and practices of oral health promotion. The subjects in this study were 133 workers who worked in Seoul, Gyeonggi province, and were at the age of 20 and up. The survey was conducted from January 16 to March 31, 2012. The collected data is statistically analyzed by SPSS. For the level oral health awareness of industrial workers, the awareness of prevention of tooth decay and periodontal disease was high, but that of necessity of oral hygiene supplies other than tooth brushing was low. For the level of oral health care practice, they showed the highest awareness for the importance of cleaning a tongue when brushing teeth, and the lowest for the importance of dental care. For oral health awareness according to the general properties, workers with average income of 2~3 million one showed higher oral health awareness than others. For oral health care practice, those who brush their teeth more than 3 times a day and who have visited the dentist during the last year had higher oral health care practice than others. For oral health awareness according to the level of interest in oral health and the status of oral health of the industrial workers, those who have higher interest in oral health turned out to have higher oral health awareness. The relation between oral health awareness and oral health care practice of the industrial workers showed a positive correlation, which indicates that the higher oral health awareness is, the higher oral health care practice is.

  • In order to identify relationships between oral health management behavior and subjective oral health perception and oral acid production in small and medium industry workers, an examination on oral acid production and a survey were conducted. As a result, the subjective oral health status, which is subjective oral health perception, was found to have a significant effect on oral acid production, and the worse the subjective oral health status was, the higher the oral acid production was. As the subjective oral health perception is expected to be helpful for the development of industrial oral health programs to improve oral health of workers, organizational and institutional efforts for industrial oral health education will be necessary for improvement of subjective oral health perception of workers.

Effect of oral health status and work loss on oral health-related quality of life of non-medical hospital workers (비의료직 병원 근로자의 구강건강 상태와 근로 손실이 구강건강 관련 삶의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore risk factors affecting the oral health quality of life of non-medical hospital workers. As for the research method, a survey was conducted on 608 workers at hospitals in the metropolitan area from April 20 to July 30, 2021. As research tools, questions related to work loss, oral health status, and oral health quality of life were investigated. For the analysis methods, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA test, and hierarchical regression analysis were performed. As a result of controlling exogenous variables, gender(β=0.108), systemic disease(β=0.136), oral health level(β=0.201), and oral health status(β=0.463) were found to have an effect on the quality of life. Initiating regular oral health education for non-medical hospital workers will be of great help to promote oral health and work.

A Study on the Status of Oral Health & Oral Health Attitude of Workers in Industries (근로자의 구강건강실태와 구강건강관리행동에 관한 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to obtain baseline data for establishing oral health policy and developing oral health among industrial workers. A question was used to question paper 226 workers of D heavy industrial company in Sacheon-City. The result obtained were as follows: 1.Generally dental patients asked to not prevention treatment but treatment of dental disease. 2.Most of workers respondent that their oral health is so so.(52.2%). 3.Respondents reported 76.1% of dental calculus, 55.8% of sensitive to cold and hot things. 4.Oral health attitude is tooth brushing experience (39.8%), scaling experience (75.7%), when brushed area all teeth, gingiva and tongue(47.3%). 5.81.8% of respondents received no teeth pain when brushing time is over 3 minutes and 83.7% of smokers had calculus.

Effects of Oral Health Education for Occupational Health Nurses (산업간호사를 대상으로 한 구강보건교육의 효과 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate effects of oral health education for occupational health nurses. The subjects were 300 occupational health nurses which participated in continuing education of Korean Association of Occupational Health Nurses. Oral health education contents consisted of basic knowledge about oral health, prevention of periodontal disease, oral health care for workers, and oral health program for workers. In order to evaluate the effects of oral health education, we performed questionnaire surveys before and after the education regarding their perceived oral health status and concern for oral health, knowledge about prevention of periodontal disease, attitude about oral health promotion, and needs for implementation of oral health promotion program. The data were analyzed by paired t-test to compare the change of knowledge and attitude according to the education. Linear regression analysis was carried out to assess the factors related to the improvement of their knowledge and attitude. The findings indicated that oral health knowledge and attitude of occupational health nurses were significantly improved by oral health education. A factor of the improvement of knowledge and attitude was concern for oral health. And they would like to be provided primarily oral health education for occupational health nurses. Finally, this study suggested that oral health education for occupational health nurses had significantly effects on improving oral health knowledge and attitude.

  • The purpose of the research is to investigate the factors affecting the life quality of oral health according to the knowledge and behavior related with oral health. Total 272 people who work in Gyeong-Nam province participated in this survey. The research shows that major 4 factors are subjective whole body health, ages, dietary pattern and dry mouse. The subjective whole body health and dietary pattern have an positive effect on the life quality of oral health, whereas ages and dry mouse an negative effect on this. As a result, the health and the life quality of oral health should be improved by investigating the factors affecting oral health and thus developing the program enhancing the oral health to prevent oral disease.

A Study on the Effect and Related Factors of Self-Perceived Oral Health Awareness and Dental Care on Work Loss of Workers in the Capital Region (수도권 지역 산업체 근로자들의 주관적 구강건강인식과 치과치료가 근로 손실에 미치는 영향 및 관련 요인)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the self-rated oral health status of industrial workers and influential factors for their work loss caused by dental care in an effort to prepare some information on policy setting about the promotion of the oral health of industrial workers and on the prevention of their oral diseases. The married industrial workers experienced work loss due to dental care more commonly than did the unmarried workers ($x^2=5.10$, p<0.05). In addition, the workers who found themselves to be in worse health experienced significantly more work loss ($x^2=29.69$, p<0.001). The workers who received treatment for oral diseases experienced significantly more work loss than those who did not receive treatment ($x^2=14.60$, p<0.001). In addition, the workers who had oral symptoms requiring treatment experienced more work loss than the others who not ($x^2=11.08$, p<0.01). The experience of not receiving treatment for a perceived oral disease was more dominant among the workers who found themselves to have an oral disease but did not receive treatment than among those who received treatment (p<0.001). Regarding factors affecting the work loss of the industrial workers caused by dental care, the workers whose monthly mean income was larger and who found themselves to be in worse health had significantly more experience of absenting themselves from the office or of leaving work early (p<0.001).

Factors Which Affect the Oral Health-Related Quality of Life of Workers (근로자의 구강건강관련 삶의 질에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • The purpose of the study is to understand the relation with the factors which affect the oral health-related quality of life and to investigate the oral health knowledge, attitude, behavior and self-perceived oral symptoms and the oral health-related quality of life (oral health impact profile, OHIP-14) among workers. The study performs self-administered questionnaires survey from March 26 to April 30, 2013, among workers in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Incheon with the convenience sampling and finally analyzes 398 questionnaires. The study performs the path analysis to analyze the impact of the knowledge, attitude, behavior and self-perceived oral symptoms on the oral health-related quality of life and the correlation among these variables. The analysis result shows that the self-perceived oral symptoms affects the OHIP-14 the most and the oral health behaviors shows indirect effects. The factor which affects the self-perceived oral symptoms is the oral health behaviors and the oral health knowledge and attitude show indirect effect. Oral health knowledge and attitude are important factors in the oral health behaviors and the knowledge is important in the oral health attitude. First, it is required to develop and apply the oral health promotion program of workers including oral health education program to upgrade the oral health behavior, as well as oral examination and treatment program to reduce the self-perceived oral symptoms to improve the oral health-related quality of life of workers.

A Study on Workers' Oral Function Problem According to Korean Standard Classification of Occupations (한국 표준직업분류에 따른 근로자의 구강기능문제)

  • This study was conducted to identify the oral function problems of workers according to Korean Standard Classification of Occupations (KSCO) and to provide evidentiary material to promote them to revise the Occupational Safety and Health Act so that workers can benefit from the collective oral healthcare project. For the research materials, it was used the 7th raw data (1st and 2nd) of National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. It was examined the problems of chewing and speaking for the workers over 19 years old by KSCO. The connection between the types of workers and the problems of chewing and speaking has been confirmed (p<0.05). In order to improve the workers' oral healthcare, the collective oral healthcare project should be implemented. Therefore, the Occupational Safety and Health Act should be revised to hire professional health care manager with expertise, who will be host of the collective oral healthcare project.

Comprehensive Effect from Affective Factors of Oral Health on Oral Health Behaviors and Quality of Oral Health Life in Industrial Workers (산업장 근로자의 구강보건 정의적 요인이 구강건강 행위와 구강건강 삶의 질에 융합적으로 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect that the affective factors of oral health in industrial workers would have on oral health behaviors and quality of oral health life. A survey was performed of 100 subjects selected from 5 industrial companies located in Chungcheongbuk-do through simple random sampling method from January 19 to 23, 2018, using the questionnaires. The data collected from the survey were analyzed with frequency analysis, independent t-test, and multiple regression analysis by using the SPSS 18.0 statistical program. The results showed that the affective factors of oral health had an influence on oral health behaviors and that the influence on quality of oral health life was greater when the oral health practice intention was stronger. Based on aforesaid results, effective oral health programs, conducive to bringing changes to the affective factors of oral health, would need to be developed in order to enhance oral health behaviors and quality of oral health life in industrial workers.
