In terms of grades for recommendations, 11.4% was grade A, 17.0% was grade B, and 68.2% was grade C. Twelve new recommendations were developed and 7 previous recommendations were deleted. Conclusion: Updated nursing practice guideline for oral care is expected to serve as an evidence-based practice guideline for oral care in South Korea. It is recommended that this guideline be spread to clinical nursing settings nationwide to improve the effectiveness of oral care practice.
This study aimed to develop simulation practice program with PBL (S-PBL) for nursing students and evaluate the effect of the program on their problem solving ability, clinical performance competency, learning satisfaction and confidence. The participants were nursing students who applied for simulation practice courses at an university in J province. The study was a mixed-method design using a nonequivalent one group pretest-posttest design (n=91) and focus group interview (n=12). Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0 program and qualitative data thematic analysis. Quantitative data showed S-PBL was effective in improving clinical performance competency, learning satisfaction and confidence of the participants, but not in improving problem solving ability. As a result of the qualitative study, four themes and eight sub-themes were derived, and the themes were "Learn integrated nursing care based on priority", "Experience team cooperation through communication," "Learn vividly critical care" and "Improved nursing competency". The S-PBL could be effective in practical education for nursing students. In further study, it is necessary to develop various simulation practice programs based on PBL through a mixed-method design and apply them to nursing curriculum.
Purpose: Evidence-based practice (EBP) has emerged as a marker for healthcare quality and a global issue in nursing care. This study was conducted to identify Korean registered nurses' knowledge, attitudes, and practice about EBP in Korea. Methods: With a cross-sectional design, the EBP questionnaire (EBPQ) was administered to a convenience sample of nurses (N=453) recruited from 44 general hospitals. To increase the response rate, the directors of nursing were individually contacted by the researchers. The final response rate was 95.7%. Results: The majority of participants were females (99.3%), staff nurses (57.8%), and with bachelors degree (40.6%). Most of them (314, 73.4%) had ever heard about EBP. The overall mean score for the EBPQ was $4.72{\pm}0.69$ out of maximum score of 7. The mean score for the knowledge of EBP, attitudes towards EBP, and practice/use of EBP were $4.61{\pm}0.75$, $4.85{\pm}0.94$, and $4.90{\pm}0.88$, respectively. Educational level, age, and exposure to EBP were statistically significant predictors of Korean nurses' EBP perception. Conclusion: The findings showed that nurses with higher education are more likely to use and value the best available evidence for practice. This study suggests needs not only for further exploration but also for developing educational plans provided by each institute to assist nurses with the process of EBP and the associated skills.

Purpose: This study was conducted to adapt the standardized evidence-based nursing protocol using the IPC (intermittent pneumatic compression) intervention to prevent venous thromboembolism in surgical patients. Further, an investigation was done to measure knowledge on prevention of venous thromboembolism, surrogate incidence of venous thromboembolism and to assess IPC compliance in the study patients compared with those in surgical patients who underwent IPC intervention due to previous clinical experience. Methods: An analysis was done of the nine modules suggested by National Evidence-based Healthcare Collaborating Agency (NECA) in the adaptation manual of the clinical practice guideline for protocol adaptation. A nonequivalent control group post test design as a quasi-experiment was used to verify the effect of the IPC protocol. Results: There was a significant difference in knowledge of prevention of venous thromboembolism, IPC application time after intervention and the number of IPC applications between the experimental group (n=50) using the IPC nursing protocol and the control group (n=49). However, the symptoms of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary thromboembolism were not observed in either the experimental group or the control group after the intervention. Conclusion: Results confirm that the standardized IPC nursing protocol provides effective intervention to prevent venous thromboembolism in surgical patients.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop an evidence-based nursing protocol for peripheral intravenous catheter management in hospitalized children. Methods: The preliminary protocol of this study was developed based on domestic and foreign guidelines, research, a survey and an analysis of medical records in a university hospital. It is a methodological research to develop evidence-based nursing protocol of peripheral intravenous catheter management verified by content validity by a group of specialists and users. Results: The specialists' verification of validity in the preparatory protocol had a CVI level of 0.94 and the propriety and conveniency of users had an average of $3.0{\pm}0.52$. The final evidence-based nursing protocol was composed of 5 areas (education, dressing and fixation, maintenance and replacement, observation and record, and coping to complication) with 46 specific recommendations. Conclusion: Based on domestic and foreign research and guidelines verified by specialists and users, the findings in this study provide a simple, applicable and evidence-based nursing protocol for peripheral intravenous catheter management in hospitalized children. By the clinical application of this protocol, nurse tasks in managing peripheral intravenous catheter can be performed with more scientific evidence and be standardized.
Purpose: This descriptive survey study aimed to examine the effects of grit, social support, job crafting, and evidence-based practice competency on job satisfaction among nurses. Methods: The participants of this study were 211 clinical nurses with experience of more than six months. Data were collected using through an online survey from February 1 to February 17, 2023. The questionnaires was consisted of general characteristics, grit, social support, job crafting, evidence-based practice competency, and job satisfaction. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics(frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation), t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis with the SPSS/WIN 28.0 program. Results: The average scores of the main variables were 3.08±0.44 out of four for grits, 3.67±0.52 out of five for social support, 4.20±0.64 out of five for job crafting, 4.84±0.71 out of seven for evidence-based practice competency, and 3.72±0.55 out of five for job satisfaction. In the regression model, the factors affecting the nurses' job satisfaction were grit (β=0.66, p<.001) and social support (β=0.11, p=.046), which explained 78.7% of the variance in job satisfaction. Job crafting and evidence-based practice competency were correlated with job satisfaction; however, there was no statistically significant effects of these variables on job satisfaction. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, grit and social support showed the most significant effects on the job satisfaction of nurses. Therefore, active support is needed to develop a strategy to improve nurses' grit and to create a supportive work environment, which would be helpful to increase their job satisfaction.
Purpose: This study was conducted to develop and test a structural model of evidence-based practice (EBP) implementation among clinical nurses. The model was based on Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt's Advancing Research and Clinical Practice through Close Collaboration model and Rogers' Diffusion of Innovations theory. Methods: Participants were 410 nurses recruited from ten different tertiary hospitals in Korea. A structured self-report questionnaire was used to assess EBP knowledge/skills, EBP beliefs, EBP attitudes, organizational culture & readiness for EBP, dimensions of a learning organization and organizational innovativeness. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS/WINdows 20.0 and AMOS 20.0 program. Results: The modified research model provided a reasonable fit to the data. Clinical nurses' EBP knowledge/skills, EBP beliefs, and the organizational culture & readiness for EBP had statistically significant positive effects on the implementation of EBP. The impact of EBP attitudes was not significant. The dimensions of the learning organization and organizational innovativeness showed statistically significant negative effects on EBP implementation. These variables explained 32.8% of the variance of EBP implementation among clinical nurses. Conclusion: The findings suggest that not only individual nurses' knowledge/skills of and beliefs about EBP but organizational EBP culture should be strengthened to promote clinical nurses' EBP implementation.

Data were analyzed using t-test and repeated measured ANOVA. Results: The experimental group showed higher body temperature from the induction of anesthesia until four hours after surgery compared to the control group. In addition, the levels of thermal comfort as well as satisfaction with thermal management were significantly higher in the experiment group. Conclusion: Use of evidence-based guidelines was effective in maintaining body temperature, lowering sensitivity to shivering, and promoting perceived thermal comfort. Therefore, adoption of evidence-based interventions in nursing practice is recommended.
Purpose: This study aimed to develop an evidence-based extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) nursing protocol for critically ill patients receiving ECMO treatment by using an adaptation process, and to verify the effects of the protocol. Methods: The protocol was developed according to the adaptation guidelines. A non-randomized controlled trial was conducted to test the protocol's effects. Data were collected between April 2019 and March 2021. The differences in physiological indicators and complication rates between the two groups were investigated using a chart review to evaluate patient outcomes. The nurses' outcome variables were evaluated using a questionnaire. Results: First, after reviewing 11 guidelines by appraisal of the guidelines for research and evaluation collaboration II, 5 guidelines with a standardization grade of over 50 points were selected. An ECMO nursing protocol was developed based on these guidelines. Second, there were no statistically significant differences in physiological indicators between the two groups of patients. However, the experimental group showed a statistically significant decrease in the infection rate (p = .026) and pressure injury rates (p = .041). The levels of satisfaction with ECMO nursing care, and empowerment and performance of the nurses who used the ECMO nursing protocol were higher than those of nurses who did not (p < .001). Conclusion: This protocol may help prevent infections and pressure injuries in patients, and improve nurses' satisfaction and empowerment. The nursing protocol developed for critically ill patients receiving ECMO treatment can be utilized in evidence-based nursing practice.
