Development and Validation of Cryopanel Cooling System Using Liquid Helium for a Satellite Test (액체헬륨을 이용한 위성시험용 극저온패널 냉각시스템 개발 및 검증)

  • A cooling system utilizing liquid helium to chill the cryopanel (800 mm $\times$ 700 mm dimensions) down to 4.2 K was designed, implemented, and tested to verify the role of the cryopanel as a heat sink for the payload of a spacecraft inside the large thermal vacuum chamber (effective dimensions : 8 m ($\Phi$) $\times$ 10 m (L)) of KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute). Two LHe (Liquid Helium) Dewars, one for the main supply and the other for refilling, were used to supply liquid helium or cold helium gas into this cryopanel, and flow control for the target temperature of the cryopanel within requirements was done through fine adjustment of the pressure inside the LHe Dewars. The return helium gas from the cryopanel was reused as a thermal barrier to minimize the heat influx on the core liquid helium supply pipe. The test verified a cooling time of around three hours from the ambient temperature to 40 K (combined standard uncertainty of 194 mK), the capacity for maintaining the cryopanel at intermediate temperatures, and a 1 K uniformity over the entire cryopanel surface at around 40 K with 20 W cooling power.

Mechanical Properties Evaluation of GTAW for INCONEL 718 alloy apply to Cryogenic Condition (극저온 환경에 적용되는 INCONEL 718합금의 GTAW 기계적 특성 평가)

  • INCONEL 718합금은 상온, 고온 및 저온환경에서 기계적 특성이 아주 우수하다. 상온에서의 모재 강도는 약 900MPa이며, 열처리 후 시효경화처리에 의해 강도가 약 1300MPa까지 증가한다. 이러한 INCONEL 718합금의 기계적 특성은 시험결과에서도 유사한 값을 나타내었고, GTAW 용접부의 상온 기계적 특성도 모재보다 우수한 강도를 나타내었다. 또한 저온에서의 기계적 특성은 모든 시험조건에서 상온보다 높은 강도를 나타내었으며, 열처리 모재시편과 용접시편은 1400MPa에 달하는 고강도를 나타내었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 INCONEL 718합금의 저온 기계적 특성이 우수한 것을 증명하였고, 용접성 또한 모재의 특성과 같이 상온 및 저온 특성이 우수한 것을 알 수 있었다. INCONEL 718 합금과 STS 316L의 이종접합의 경우에도 $-100^{\circ}C$환경의 인장강도가 상온보다 300MPa 이상 증가하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서, INCONEL 718합금은 $100^{\circ}C$이하부터 일정온도까지는 기계적 특성이 계속 증가 할 것으로 사료되며, 극저온 고압 상태로 공급되는 산화제 배관 제작에 적합한 소재로 판단된다.

  • The structural analyses and experimental results for the bellows of a gas-generator liquid oxygen shut-off valve were presented. The bellows experiences axial compression and external high pressure loadings at cryogenic temperatures. The analyses were performed using EJMA (Expansion Joint Manufacturing Association) standard and the commercial FE (finite element) analysis program, Abaqus v6.9, at room and cryogenic temperatures. The spring modulus, the induced stress and the expected fatigue life of the bellows were compared respectively. The effects by the contact and the material plasticity on the FE analysis results were also analyzed. Also, FE analyses related to a burst test were presented.

  • Adhesive joints are widely used for structural joining applications in various fields and environmental conditions. Polyurethane adhesive is using for LNG carrier with cryogenic temperature condition. In industrial application of polyurethane adhesive, void of adhesive layer is often discussed regarding its effects on bonding properties. In present study, artificial void were prepared on Polyurethane adhesive layer with various size and location. The single lap shear test was carried out by using prepared specimens under $-170^{\circ}C$. As a result, it was confirm that the void of adhesive layer didn't affect the adhesion properties independent of their size and location.

  • Ignition and combustion performance of a gas-turbine engine were changed by various high-altitude condition. A goal of this study is to make the small test facility to simulate high-altitude condition. To perform the low pressure condition, a diffuser was used in various diffuser front of primary nozzle pressure. To perform the low temperature, heat exchanger was used in various mixture ratio of cryogenic air and ambient temperature air. The experimental result shows that high-altitude conditions can be controled by diffuser front of primary nozzle pressure and mixture ratio of cryogenic air and ambient temperature air.

  • In this paper, we have implemented the unified fuel heater and performance evaluation system for diesel cars. In order to strengthen an engine starting of diesel car, we need to assembly the fuel filter and heater. Especially, this assembly fuel heater is very important in winter, it is necessary for heating to operate the diesel engine. The heater for unifying the sensor and heater body can advance the performance of car and reduce the production cost. Finally, the performance test chamber is needed to evaluate the performance of heater.

  • 인공위성은 우주공간의 고진공 상태와 태양 복사열에 의한 고온 및 극저온이 반복되는 가혹한 환경으로 인해 주요 부품의 기능장애가 초래되므로 발사전 지상에서 열진공 시험장비를 이용한 열진공시험을 수행한다. 위성체의 열진공 시험에 사용되는 열교환기인 베이스플레이트(Baseplate)는 우주 열환경을 모사하기 위하여 직접 방열판 표면에 고온 및 저온의 유체를 공급하여 시험 요구에 따른 필요한 열을 공급하게 된다. 일반적으로 우수한 성능의 위성체 부품의 검증을 위해서 지상의 열환경 시험은 접촉식 히터 및 열교환기를 사용하게 되는데, 이때 적절한 히터 및 블로워 파워를 선정하고 챔버 슈라우드와 열교환에 있어 간섭이 없도록 장비를 운용해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 상용프로그램을 이용하여 열진공 시험용 베이스플레이트에 대하여 전산해석을 수행하였으며, 이를 통해 베이스플레이트 내의 작동 유체의 입구 압력에 의한 열진공 시험용 열교환기의 성능 특성을 관찰하였다.

Effect of graphene oxide on mechanical characteristics of polyurethane foam (산화그래핀이 폴리우레탄 폼 기계적 강도에 미치는 영향)

  • In the present study, graphene oxide based polyurethane foams were manufactured as a part of the development process of mechanically strengthened polyurethane foam insulation material. This material is used in a liquefied natural gas carrier cargo containment system. The temperature of the containment system is $-163^{\circ}C$. First, graphene oxide was synthesized using the Hummers' method, and it was supplemented into polyol-isocyanate reagent by considering a different amount of graphene oxide weight percent. Then, a bulk form of graphene-oxide-polyurethane foam was manufactured. In order to investigate the cell stability of the graphene-oxide-polyurethane foam, its microstructural morphology was observed, and the effect of graphene oxide on microstructure of the polyurethane foam was investigated. In addition, the compressive strength of graphene-oxide-polyurethane foam was measured at ambient and cryogenic temperatures. The cryogenic tests were conducted in a cryogenic chamber equipped with universal testing machine to investigate mechanical and failure characteristics of the graphene-oxide-polyurethane foam. The results revealed that the additions of graphene oxide enhanced the mechanical characteristics of polyurethane foam. However, cell stability and mechanical strength of graphene-oxide-polyurethane foam decreased as the weight percent of graphene oxide was increased.

우주환경모사용 열진공챔버 고진공게이지 교정결과 검토

  • 우주궤도환경은 고진공 환경이며, 태양복사열에 의한 고온환경 및 극저온환경이 반복되는 가혹한 환경이다. 위성체의 성공적인 임무 수행을 위해 지상에서 철저한 우주환경시험을 거쳐 기능 및 작동상태를 점검해야 하며, 이를 위해서는 $10^{-6}$ Torr 이하의 고진공 및 $-180^{\circ}C$ 이하의 극저온 모사가 가능한 열진공챔버와 같은 우주환경모사장비가 반드시 필요하다. 한국항공우주연구원에서는 다양한 크기의 열진공챔버를 보유, 가동 주이며, 챔버 내부의 진공도를 측정하기 위한 진공게이지의 교정을 매년 실시하고 있다. 또한 교정기관을 통한 교정 이외, 보유하고 있는 표준챔버를 이용한 자체 교정을 실시하여, 진공도의 신뢰성 점검 및 보증을 하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 표준챔버를 이용한 고진공게이지 교정 방법을 소개하며, 다년간의 교정결과를 검토하여 교정주기에 대한 견해를 기술하고자 한다.

  • Cryogenic helium gas is used as the pressurant for the oxidizer pressurization of DR(Damper Receiver) sphere in the PSD(Pogo Suppression Device) system and liquid oxygen is used as the oxidizer for the propellant in Korea Space Launch Vehicle-II. The helium gas is stored in pressurant cylinders inside the cryogenic liquid oxygen tank and liquid oxygen is stored in the oxidizer tank. In this study, the performance test of PSD liquid oxygen drain valve for KSLV-II was considered.
