UCC, an abbreviation for User Created Contents, is not only a symbol of desire but also a product of creativity that a producer contains his or her subjective disposition. More and more UCC tend to have significantly increased in Web 2.0 environment. However, the research on the contents as a creative product has rarely been processed. It may be fairly said that this results in the indifference of researchers in the special field like the political contents since UCC is usually produced by amateurs. Producers' various desire is unlikely revealed, which leads to the flow of users into open media such as the Internet. It could also be available to represent the property, of plural visual language signs in a field. Moreover, UCC has the attribute of re-mediation in effective communication, so the differences between the semiotic properties in the Internet contents could be a significant material for researches. This could contribute to establish a theoretical system for the visual communication. Therefore, this study aims to analyse the signification of the political video UCC, . To develop this analysis, I apply Greimas' Generative Trajectory of Signification Theory to the text, or the UCC. He classifies it as three structures: deep structure, superficial structure, and discourse structure. As a result, the text shows meaningful contents delivering core political messages. In addition, this approach could exam that 'Obama Syndrome' in American recent presidential campaigns is caused by web 2.0 based on Internet campaigns including video UCC.

This research looks into the narrative aspect of news in order to disclose problems with intercultural communication in our society. News on racial issues and "Hanryu" would illustrate cultural bias against others. This study attempts to analyze narrative structures of news on these issues using narrative theories including Greimas and Levi-Strauss. It covers news on major newspapers such as Chosun, Jung Ang, Dong A, Hanguerae and Economy Daily as well as major broadcasting news including KBS, SBS and MBC. There were 495 news on 'Hanryu' and racial issues with regard to Hines Ward from January 1, 2006 to April 15, 2006. By analysing narrative structures of these news, I found power underneath news messages which undermine the reality. Expansionism and cultural insensibility prevent our society from understanding other cultures as they are. Post-colonial theories provide a guideline for detecting intercultural barriers and national identity crisis in our society.

Identifying characters who appear in a story and analyzing their relationships is essential to understanding the story. This paper aims to identify the two actants (or character roles) as Helper and Opponent in Greimas's Actantial model by identifying Subject (i.e., protagonist) and analyzing the emotional interactions between the Subject and the two actants (Helper/Opponent). Our proposed method consists of three steps. First, we identify objects (i.e., characters) appearing in the text story. Next, we extract relational information through the interaction of the characters, and then classify emotions in the text expressed as relational information. Finally, we represent the flow of emotional relations among characters as a directed graph. The node with the highest degree is considered as the Subject because it includes the most relational information. The node that sends the most positive/negative emotions to the Subject is considered as the Helper/Oppenent, respectively. Our research contributes to the computer-based narrative understanding by providing a computational method that automatically extracts the three key character roles (Subject, Helper, and Opponent) from the text story.

This paper analyzes the types of characters in the drama by applying Gremas's Actantial model and Enneagram's character typology and examines how they are shaped. As the Korean Wave is important, it is necessary to study the type of characters and how to describe them. Character is the most important factor in the influence of drama. As a result of applying to the Actantial model, and the following results were obtained. The main subjects are Yu-jin Choi and Ko Ae-sin, the Helpers are many people helping the subject, the opponent is the pro-Japanese figures, the Sender is Gojong, and the recivers are the people of Joseon. Analysis results by personality type of Enneagram, it was found that the subjects are 3 and 5 type, the Helpers are various types, the opponent is 3 type, the Sender is 5 type, and the receivers all types. In the method of describing the subject, internal description (direct description) is used, and the other is only formed by indirect description. Some of the Helpers and the Sender are used an image-telling method to show the inside. However, the opponent is image-telling only to show indirectly. As a result, it was possible to confirm the differences and effects on the method of image-telling by character type.

, one of the Disney's animations, hit the 10 million audience mark for the first time in the history of animations released in Korea. not only raised the fever with its theme song, 'Let it go', as well as Elsa, Anna, and Olaf's character products but caused sensations in many ways. If so, we need to think about what kind of meaning did create in Korea to be so sensational. This study examines the value that Frozen intended to deliver and the meaning it generated by using Greimas actant model and semiotic square. From the actant model analysis on Anna and Elsa from , it was identified that Anna desired to recover her relationship with Elsa and to take summer back in Arendelle. Her desires can be interpreted as her love toward Elsa and people in Arendelle. Meanwhile, Elsa always desired freedom although she confined herself because of her ability to freeze. In other words, Elsa desired to free herself from her freezing ability by finding out how to control her ability. Such desires of Anna and Elsa were achieved by their actions of true love, and the solution of all the conflicts in was an action of true love. From the semiotic square analysis on the meaning of , it was found out that created past-oriented value with which characters tried to change their abnormal lives of the present into their normal lives of the past. The characters tried to change their present lives where freezing winter comes in the middle of summer, communication between the sisters is cut off, and people try to take advantage of the abnormal state deliberately, into the past when the sisters had a good relationship and the natural season of summer in Arendelle. The past-oriented value that tried to tell us is similar to our reality. In our reality with a lot of unbelievable news and unstable circumstances, we desire to go back to the past when we were filled with affection and hope even though our lives were tough and difficult. This sentiment must have contributed to the huge success of in Korea.

Human hunted and picked to survive and a vessel was made naturally to store something being hunted and picket, which was a great invention. In modern times, society changed and development of science gave us convenience in making a vessel and various kinds of store instruments which was made of pure natural material, of new stuff, such as plastic and iron. but human became to be inclined to regress into nature because of problems of environment. We can say that the representative trend is well-being, after all this is a symptom to return to life being persued by predecessors before the science civilization was developed. Ancestors have lived with nature, adapted themselves to it. For examples they have built the house which became to be a part of nature and just like it, and studied a method of storing food to eat for four seasons, then displayed a storagehouse and storage containers everywhere of the house. Now Korean has the custody of kimchi in refrigerator at every house, but our forefathers controled a timing to eat food with studying a method of storage to put to use nature. With hot wind of well-being, Korean food is becoming to be globalized, according to this, concern about the wisdom of progenitors is growing more and more. It's an example that the world shows concern seriously about the pottery, which have stored kimchi for a long time fleshly, in globalization of kimchi. This study have three purposes, the first. checking documents about the development history of pottery which is a kind of ceramic, and then the second, through an scientific experiment, with studying characteristic of pottery being built by the wisdom of ancestors, informing the merit of pottery and necessity to the world, and futhermore, the third, working up the development of close environmental vessels putting to use the characteristic of pottery.

The terminology "human body" simply means a physical body but also more often, as an object in art works, carries symbolic concepts incorporating the whole history of human lives. Human body has been employed as an artistic object capturing physical body, delivering artist's idea expressing life indicators from different standpoints of times and places. This point of view about human body in art works has in fact rather short history since 1960's when modern thinking paradigm focusing upon rationality and reasoning has begun declining and on the contrary when the body used to be the servant of the mind and soul for a long time has begun attracting artist's attention as a real entity from the viewpoint of dichotomy. During the 1960's, frequent performances in Pop art and of Fluxus showed that the human body has been an important media for artistic communication after importance of body performances had been raised in Action painting in 1940's. The human body became a more determined media in body art works that had got into stride after Yves Kline's conceptual works applying body and its traces. These kinds of art works have continued and consolidated into the Feminism came into blossom in 1980's and into fragmentated and disembodied body art trend in 1990's. Through development of trends in body works, human body now might well be regarded as a clue provide from individual identity with implication over the world. This thesis is to analyse in semiotic way main works of Kiki Smith who is a representative artist devoting to Feminism and proposing extended significance of human body. In the analysis process of works done by two great artists with histrorical background of art trend in order to find and open an significance horizon of human body, semiotics and bodism are therefore perceived as pertinent and applied as basic tools. The first stage of analysis is to get the significances emerged in between expression part and contextual parts, which are separated structually from the most basic level. The study deals with body works furthermore in the way of structual cohesion of the expression and the context from the view of A J. Greimas' Structural Semantics and tried to build up a basic frame for the extended significances of human body. This thesis is, on the other hand, to attempt to contribute for extension of disembodied and fragmentated body discussed in the structural semantic frame earlier by Julia Kriesteva who delivers abjection concepts and phenomenology of Maurice Merleau-Ponty who enables to overview relationship between the body and the world from the viewpoint of Bodism, further into interpretation level. The other works are Kiki smith's that showed epics about death in mid-1980's, detailed humbleness of vulnerable human body exposed to dichotomy and fragmentation in 1990's and religion and mythology incorporating wouln healing in 2000's and henceforth. Through the analysis of Kiki Smith's representative work 'Pee body', it is verified and confirmed that fragmentated body showed beyond boundary gap of the human body and ultimately tends to imply human healing owing to divine maternity. Bodily symbols in Kiki Smith's are extended to the universal world to imply human life and death on the one hand and religion and mythology of human wound and divine healing one the other hand. This thesis through these process and results of analysis is in a broad context, to emphasize that human body as objectified text has a key indicator role to understand world as well as semiotic extension in art works in late 20th century so that we might confirm bodily symbol as a cultural context constitutes a section of contemporary visual arts.
