Bond Properties of Nonpolar Macro Synthetic Fiber in Cement Mortar with Maleic Anhydride Grafted Polypropylene Powder (무수말레인산이 그라프트된 폴리프로필렌 분말 첨가에 따른 시멘트 모르타르와 무극성 마크로 합성섬유의 부착 특성)

  • This study evaluated the effects of maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene powder (mPP) contents on the bond properties of cement mortar and nonpolar macro synthetic fibers (macro synthetic fiber). Dog-bone bond tests were performed to evaluate the bond performance of macro synthetic fiber in cement mortar with varying amounts of mPP (0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30% of cement weight). The bond properties (pullout behavior, pullout load and interface toughness) of macro synthetic fiber in cement mortar increased as the mPP contents was increased. The bond properties increased with the mPP contents. The microstructure of macro synthetic fiber surface was examined after the pullout test to analyze the frictional resistant force according to mPP contents during the pullout process of macro synthetic fiber in cement mortar. The scratched of macro synthetic fiber increased with the mPP contents.

  • An attempt was made to synthesize an ammonia adsorbent by the photo-induced grafting of styrene (St) onto polypropylene (PP) nonwoven using benzoin ethyl ether (BEE) as a photosensitizer with urea and trimethylol propane triacrylate in methanol medium. As styrene concentration was increased, the graft yield was increased. It was also found that the graft yield increased with reaction time. The polypropylene grafted with styrene (PP-g-St) was sulfonated by chlorosulfonic acid in dichloroethane and complexed with several metal ion, such as $cO^{+2}$, $nI^{+2}$, $cU^{+2}$, $Zn^{+2}$. The amount of ammonia gas adsorbed by these sample was dependent on the degree of sulfonation, adsorption time, and ammonia gas pressure. The adsorption capacity of ammonia gas by the sulfonated PP-g-St(SPP-g-St) nonwoven with 4. 25 mmol $H^+$/g was 6.61 mmol/g. Metal ion complexed SPP-g-St nonwovens had higher adsorption capacity than SPP-g-St nonwoven and the $Co^{+2}$ complexed SPP-g-St showed 9.90 mmol $NH_3$/g, which was much higher than that of active carbon or silica gel.

Synthesis of ion Exchange Fiber Containing Amidoxime and Phosphoric Acid Groups and Its Uranium Adsorption Properties (아미드옥심기와 인산기가 함유된 이온 교환 섬유의 합성 및 우라늄 흡착 특성)

  • PP-g-(AN/Sty) was synthesized by grafting with acrylonitrile (AN) and styrene (Sty) onto PP staple fiber using an electron beam accelerator and followed by amidoximination and phosphorylation. Mole fraction of AN in the graft chain increased with the increase of the AN content in the monomer mixture. The highest AN grafting yield of 45% was obtained at a monomer ratio of 40 vol% AN/60 vol% Sty. Mole fraction of AN in the graft chain decreased with the increase of methanol amount used its solvent. As reaction temperature increased, the grafting yield of copolymer increased and reached equilibrium at 50$^{\circ}C$. Amount of amidoxime group in fibrous ion exchanger was increased as increasing amount of hydroxylamine, and the maximum content of amidoxime group was observed at 5.8 mmol/g with the 9 wt% hydroxylamine concentration. Content of phosphorous group in fibrous ion exchanger increased up to 0.5 N phosphoric acid concentration, and then leveled off. The adsorption ability of the copolymer for uranyl ion by the chelating adsorbents was in the following order : bifunctional PP-g-(AN/sty) > amidoximated PP-g-(AN/Sty) > phosphorylated PP-g-(AN/Sty).

Graft Polymerization of Methyl Methacrylate onto Cotton Fiber -Comparison of two step graft polymerization and emulsion graft polymerization- (면섬유에 Methyl Methacrylate의 그라프트중합 - 이단계 그라프트중합과 유화 그라프트중합의 비교 -)

  • Graft polymerization of MMA onto cotton fiber was carried out in two ways, two step graft polymerization and one step emulsion graft polymerization, using tetravalent cerium ion as an initiator. At two step graft polymerization, the first step was the pretreatment of cotton fiber with an aqueous initiator solution and the second was the grafting pretreated cotton fiber in the monomer solution. In case of one step emulsion graft polymerization, MMA was emulsified with SLS in initiator solution. Under the various graft polymerization conditions, graft yield, graft efficiency and from the Arrhenius plot the apparent activation energy were compared. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Graft yield and graft efficiency of emulsion graft polymerization were higher than those of two step graft polymerization. 2. In case of two step graft polymerization, graft yield was affected by the pretreatment time of cotton fiber with an aqueous initiator solution. And graft yield of emulsion graft polymerization was increased with the concentration of emulsifier below cmc of SLS and was decreased thereafter. 3. Elevation of temperature resulted increase in graft yield for both grafting methods. The apparent activation energy of emulsion graft pelymerzation was lower than that of two step graft polymerization. 4. Increased reaction time increased in graft yield, but decreased in graft efficiency. 5. Moisture regain of grafted cotton was decreased with graft yield.

A Study on the Compatibilization of Blends Based on Poly(phenylene ether) and Polyamide (Poly(phenylene ether)/Polyamide 블렌드의 상용화에 관한 연구)

  • Compatibilization of blends based on poly(phenylene ether) (PPE) and polyamide (PA) has been practiced with the incorporation of a copolymer formed by grafting polystyrene onto polybutadiene latex (g-BS) which is further functionalized with maleic anhydride (MAH) (g-BS*) to impart reactivity with amine groups of PA. The major focus has been placed on the effect of the various structural factors in g-BS8 on the phase morphology and mechanical performance of the blends. For the balance of impact strength and heat resistance, it was important to locate g-BS n particles inside of the PPE phase, which was accomplished by the proper control of the molecular weight and amount of PS in g-BS*. For g-BS*'s having constant molecular weight and amount of PS, the reduction of MAH content or increase of rubber particle size in g-BS* resulted in the increase of domain size and consequently loss in mechanical properties. Based on the comparison made with the conventional PPE/PA blend comprising MAH grafted PPE as a compatibilizer, it was confirmed that the comparable level of mechanical performance can be achieved by an appropriate g-BS* type material with improved whiteness index.

Sterilization Effect of the Ion-exchanger Filter Using by Radiation Graft Polymerization (방사선 그라프트 중합법을 이용한 이온교환 필터의 살균효과)

  • We studied the pasteurization effect of the microorganism involved in the water, using ion-exchanging filter made of the Radiation Induced Grafted Polymerization. This ion-exchanging filter is made by the graft polymerization of GMA, after irradiation of electron beam to the non-woven filter. Then, we made the ion-exchanging filter (EtA, DEA, SS) applying ion-exchanging base to the GMA filter. As a result, the density of the ion-exchanging base is shown as 2.38 mol/kg in case of EtA, 1.79 mol/kg in case of DEA and 0.75 mol/kg in case of SS. Through this filter made by this method, we measured the pasteurization power of E. coli. We found very high elimination rate such as log 4.65 in case of SS-dial filter, which is higher as 3.00 times in comparison with EtA, and 1.10 times in comparison with DEA. This data show the result is very excellent comparing with 3,000 CFU/ml. of city water treatment basis.

  • The surgical treatments for aortic arch aneurysm are thought to be very invasive procedures, and high morbidity and mortality rates have been reported after aortic arch aneurysm operations. Many surgeons currently prefer the insertion of a stent-graft rather than an operation for treating an aortic arch aneurysm and if needed, with bypass of the subclavian or carotid arteries, which is called the 'hybrid method'. We managed one patient with an aortic arch aneurysm by using the hybrid method, and so we report on this case with a review of the relevant literature.

  • A hollow fiber membrane containing BSA as ligand was Prepared by radiation-induced grafting GMA onto a porous polyethylene hollow fiber and subsequent reacting with DEA and TEA. The density of the DEA and TEA of the membrane were 3.4 mmol/g, 1.7r mmol/g, respectively. The DEA membrane exhibited a higher amount of than the TEA membrane. BSA was immobilized by the graft chains during the permeation of BSA solution throught the DEA and TEA membrane. The BSA was adsorbed in multilayer binding of 8 onto the DEA membrane whereas adsorption onto the TEA membrane remained constant. A two-stage stepwise BTC was observed due to independent chiral recognition for L, D-Trp solution by DEA-BSA membrane.

  • The grafting of 2,3-epoxypropylmethacrylate (GMA) onto polypropylene fabric was carried out by the $\gamma$-ray preirradiation grafting technique. Subsequently, the GMA-grafted polypropylene fabric was reacted with iminodiacetic acid (IDA) in different mixed solvents to prepare the fibrous metal adsorbent. The grafting extent was found to be dependent on the reaction time, temperature, preirradiation dose and dose rate. The effects of various mixed solvents on the IDA amination onto GMA-grafted polypropylene fabric were investigated. Compared with other mixed solvents, the extent of amination was highest in the dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO)/water, but the reaction did not occur in the water. The adsorption characteristics of various metal ions by the prepared adsorbent were examined when it was immersed in the 100 ppm metal ion solution. The amount of adsorption followed the order:$Pb^{2+}>Co^{2+}>Fe^{2+}$.
