In this thesis, the fatigue tests were performed on a series of SFRC(steel fiber reinforced concrete) to investigate the fatigue behavior of SFRC varying with the steel fiber contents and the steel fiber aspect ratios. The three point loading system is used in the fatigue tests. In tl1ese tests, relations between the repeated loading cycles and the mid-span deflections, number of repeated loadmg cycles when specimen was fractured were observed. On this basis, the mid-span deflections, the elastic strain energy and inelastic strain energy of SFRC were studied. A S - N curve \vas drawn to present the fatigue strength of SFRC beam.
From che test results, by increasing the steel fiber content the energy lost on the permanent deformation decreases and the energy spent on crack growth increases. But in case of SFRC with the same steel fiber content the higher the steel fiber aspect ratio is, the less the elastic strain energy is. According to S - N curve drawn by the regression analysis on the fatugue test results, the fatigue strength with 2,000,000 repeated loading cycles in SFRC with the steel fiber content is 1.0% shows about 70% on the first crack static flexural strength.
The current design for crack width control in concrete bridges is incomplete in analytical models. As one of the important serviceability limit states, the crack width be considered with the quantitative prediction of the initiation and propagation of corrosion and corrosion-induced cracking. A serviceability limit state of cracking can be affected by the combined effects of bond, slip, cracking, and corrosion of the reinforcing elements. Considering life span of concrete bridges, an improved prediction of crack width affected by time-dependent general corrosion has been proposed for the crack control design. The developed corrosion models and crack width prediction equation can be used for the design and the maintenance of prestressed and non-prestressed reinforcements by varying time, w/c, cover depth, and geometries of the sections. It can also be used as the rational criteria for the maintenance of existing concrete bridges and the prediction of remaining life of concrete structures.

This paper concerns the structural behavior of high-strength concrete beams with compressive strength of 80 MPa subjected to flexure. Main test variables were nominal yielding strength of longitudinal rebar including normal strength rebar(SD 400) and high strength rebar(SD 600), reinforcement ratio from 0.98 to 1.58% and beam section size with $200{\times}250$, $200{\times}300mm$. The nine beams were cast and tested under flexure. The study investigated ultimate flexural strength, load-deflection relationship, crack patterns, failure patterns and ductility of the test beams. Test results indicate that when rebar ratio increased flexural strength increased and ductility decreased. In addition, the number of cracks increased and the crack width decreased as the reinforcement ratio increased. The yield strength of rebar did not affect significantly load-crack width relationship. Nonlinear analysis of test beams was performed and then test results and analytical results of ultimate load were compared. Analytical results of high-strength concrete beams overall underestimated flexural strength of test beams.

The purpose of present study is to assess the maximum width of the surface cracks using the histogram analysis of image processing techniques in concrete structures. For this purpose, the concrete crack image is acquired by the camera. The image is Grayscale coded and Binary coded. After Binary coded image is Dilate and Erode coded, the image is then recognized as separated objects by applying Labeling techniques. Over time, dust and stains may occur naturally on the surface of concrete. The crack image of concrete may include shadows and reflections by lighting depending on a surrounding conditions. In general, concrete cracks occur in a continuous pattern and noise of image appears in the form of shot noises. Bilateral Blurring and Adaptive Threshold apply to the Grayscale image to eliminate these effects. The remaining noises are removed by the object area ratio to the Labeled area. The maximum numbers of pixels and its positions in the crack objects without noises are calculated in x-direction and y-direction by Histogram analysis. The widths of the crack are estimated by trigonometric ratio at the positions of the pixels maximum numbers for the Labeled objects. Finally, the maximum crack width estimated by the proposed method is compared to the crack width measured with the crack gauge. The proposed method by the present study may increase the reliability for the estimation of maximum crack width using image processing techniques in concrete surface images.

This study was based on the steel composite concrete box structure (Transfer girder) which was installed to support the skyscrapers directly above the subway line. In this study, it was analytically proved that the cause of cracks on the steel composite concrete box structure were the shrinkage cracks by comparing the results of crack investigation and numerical analysis. As the results, it was found that the internal temperature difference between concrete and steel members occurred according to the shape of the steel frame embedded in concrete, the location of vertical stiffener, and the closed section area. The narrower spacing of vertical stiffener was occurred the internal temperature concentration of the structure and the temperature difference increased. And the location of higher thermal strain and temperature were similar to the location of actual cracks by the visual inspection. Therefore, the internal temperature concentration parts were formed according to the presence and spacing of the vertical stiffeners and the inspection passage in the central part of the structure. The shrinkage cracks were occurred by the restrained of temperature expansion and contraction of the concrete. As the results of this study, it was important to separate and manage the non-structural cracks caused by shrinkage and the structural cracks in the maintenance of serviced steel-composite concrete structures.

A simple numerical procedure is presented to determine the stress intensity factors for crack in a stiffened panel subjected to a uniaxial uniform stress normal to the crack. Two types of stiffened panels are analyzed by the finite element method for various values of crack lengths, stiffness ratios, and stiffener spacings. From the finite element solution, the stress intensity factors were determined by using hybrid extrapolation method. Results are presented in graphical forms for upper mentioned parameters.

Considered is non-symmetric contact traction induced by the tilting of a contact body and/or by a far field bulk tensile load to the other body. The problem is under the regime of plane strain. General profile of the contact end is incorporated and partial slip condition is supposed. As an example contact configuration, an indentation of a punch with rounded corners onto a half plane is studied. The variation of the internal stress field due to the tilting and the bulk tension is investigated. An edge crack problem is analyzed to examine the influence of the non-symmetric traction. It is shown that the tilting of a punch does not influence the behaviour of the crack. Rather, the effect of the bulk tension on the cracking behaviour is found considerable.

This study investigates the influence of hooked-end steel fiber volume fraction and aspect ratio on the mechanical properties, such as compressive and flexural performance, of concrete with specified compressive strength of 30MPa. Three types of hooked-end steel fibers with aspect ratios of 64, 67 and 80 were selected. The flexural tests of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) prismatic specimens were conducted according to EN 14651. The compressive performance of SFRC with different volume fractions (0.25, 0.50 and 0.75%) were evaluated through standard compressive strength test method (KS F 2405). Experimental results indicated that the flexural strength, flexural toughness, fracture energy of concrete were improved as steel fiber volume fraction increases but there is no unique relationship between steel fiber volume fraction and compressive performance. The flexural and compressive properties of concrete incorporating hooked-end steel fiber with aspect ratio of 64 and 80 are a little better than those of SFRC with aspect ratio of 67. For each SFRC mixture used in the study, the residual flexural tensile strength ratio defined in Model Code 2010 was more than the limit value to be able to substitute rebar or welded mesh in structural members with the fiber reinforcement.

In this study, closed-cell aluminum foam with an initial crack was investigated to produce an axial load-time graph. Using the 10-kN Landmarks of MTS Corporation, a 15-mm/min velocity of mode I shape was applied to the aluminum foam specimen using the displacement control method. ABAQUS 6.10 simulation was used to model and analyze the identical model in three dimensions under conditions identical to those of the experiment. The energy release rate was calculated on the basis of an axial load-displacement graph obtained from the experiment and a transient image of the crack length, and then an FE model was analyzed on the basis of this fracture energy condition. The relation between load and displacement was discussed; it was found that the aluminum foam deformed somewhat less than the adhesive layer owing to the difference in elastic modulus.
This study is to investigate the damage assessment of adjacent structures due to excavation in urban environment. Model tests were carried out for 2 story masonry building and frame structures in various shapes and locations. The damage level of adjacent structures were very differently estimated in accordance with the shape ratio (L/h) of structures, construction stages, and various locations. Therefore the most weak part (bay) of structure must be heavily instrumented and monitored in more details at early stage of constructions. The progressive crack development mechanism at various construction stages was revealed through model tests and crack size indicated more conservative side of damage level on the damage level graph.
