Theoretical Analysis of Interface Debonding on the Strengthened RC Bridge Decks (성능향상된 RC 바닥판의 계면파괴 해석)

  • Especially, when orthotropic material such as uni-dierectionally woven Carbon Fiber Sheet, resisting only the unidirectional tension, is used to strengthening bridge deck, the direction and width of the strengthening material should be considered very carefully. Thus, analysis of the failure characteristics and the premature failure mechanism of the strengthened decks based on the test results are required. In this study, the premature failure due to the interface debonding of strengthening material of the strengthened deck slab are inquired into failure mechanism through both experiments results and analyses with prototype strengthened deck specimens using carbon fiber sheet. From the test results, interface debonding of strengthening material is occured at the crack face

Microscopic Analysis of the Rock Cleavage for Jurassic Granite in Korea (주라기 화강암에 발달하는 결의 현미경학적 분석)

  • Jurassic granites of three sites, Pocheon, Geochang and Habcheon, were analysed with respect to the characteristics of the rock cleavage. Microscopic analysis for the oriented thin sections of the specimens was conducted by using the scanline survey technique to measure microcrack direction, spacing and length. The results showed that the preferred orientations of microcrack developed in quartz and feldspar arc coincident with the orientation of quarry planes. The length of microcrack is related to grain size. The length of microcrack in coarse-grained granite is longer than that in relatively fine-grained granite. In all granites, microcracks related to the preferred orientations are well developed in order of rift, grain and hardway planes in number, length and density.

An Analysis for The Ductile Crack Growth (연성 균열성장의 해석)

  • This paper presents a methodology for predicting stable crack growth and instability of a cracked body under monotonically increasing load. It is based on a model that incremental crack extensions and load increments after fracture initiation occur by turns in sequence and the criterion that the crack grows by an incremebt .delta.a when the opening displacement at the current crack tip increases by a critical value V$_{c}$. It is shown that the value I$_{c}$ = V$_{c}$/ .delta. a is a material constant characterizing ductile crack growth resistance. Along with the fracture initiation toughness value, the constant is used for the calculation of the loads against crack extensions by adding up each increment. The specimen failure is defined to occur when the necessary load increment for crack extension is zero or when the limit load in the current ligament is reached. The predicted failure loads are in good agreement with the avaliable experimental failure loads for the compact and center-cracked tension specimens of 7075-T651, 2024-T351 aluminum alloys and 304 stainless steel.steel.

  • Shrinkage may cause cracking in concrete. In practice such cracking must be considered in most concrete applications because, under normal conditions, drying of the concrete is unavoidable, and when drying takes place shrinkage occurs. Cracked concrete is an inferior concrete because it is weaker, more permeable, and more susceptible to chemical attack. The development of the strength of LAC with aging depends on a few factors such as type of the cement, W/C ratio, curing conditions and periods. The higher the strength of LAC, the lower the possibility of shrinkage cracking. Hence, the strength of LAC in the hypocaust system depends to a large extent on the effect of cracking decrease of the antifoaming rate to drying shrinkage in cement.

  • Fatigue surface crack growth was studied in 7075-T651 aluminum alloy plates subjected largely to bending loads. The surface crack length and its depth were measurement by the unloading elastic compliance method. The surface crack growth rate dc/dN, on the surface and da/dN, in the depth direction were obtained by the secant method. The stress intensity factor range .DELTA.K was computed by means of Newman and Raju equation. The aspect ratio a/c was presented in form of a/c=0.815-0.853(a/T). The effect of the stress ratio on the stable surface crack growth rates under increasing .DELTA.T is larger in lower .DELTA.K, while the relation between dc/dN, da/dN and the effective stress intensity factor range .DELTA.K$_{eff}$ is weakly dependent on the stress ratio.o.

  • Asphalt overlay method is a general method to extend the of life old concrete pavements. However, reflection cracks are the typical problem of the AC overlay on distressed concrete pavement. Joint sealing, stress absorbtion layer have been used to prevent reflection cracks however partial success of to delay the timing of reflection cracking was recognized. Reflection crack problem can be eliminated by using rubblization method, which crush concrete pavement slab into piece of aggregate size that can be used base material. Previous research on rubblization method indicated that the size of rubblized PCC ranged 40-70mm at upper layer, and more than 100mm at lower layer. In this study, the adequate depth of rubblized PCC that ran prevent reflection cracking of AC overlay is estimated base on the simulation test of reflection cracking with 0, 10, 20cm rubblized PCC base.

  • This paper describes a proposal for average crack width and immediate deflection calculation in structural concrete members. The model is mathematically derived from actual bond stressslip relationships and tension stiffening effect between reinforcement and the surrounding concrete, and the actual strains of steel and concrete are integrated respectively along the embedded length between the adjacent cracks so as to obtain the difference in the axial elongation. With these, a model for average crack width and immediate deflection in reinforced concrete flexural members are proposed utilizing difference in the axial elongation and average steel strain and moment-curvature relationship with taking account of bond characteristics. The model is applied to the test specimens available in literatures, and the crack width and deflections predicted by the proposal equation in this study are closed to the experimentally measured data compared the current code provisions.

Fatigue Fracture Analysis of Curved Pipes Under Cyclic Loading (반복 하중에 의한 곡관의 피로 균열 해석)

  • In this study, we numerically analyze fatigue cracks of curved pipes under cyclic loadings. Numerical models of the curved pipes are developed. The models are verified with the experimental results in terms of fatigue lives and development process of the fatigue cracks. Erosion technique is applied to the solid elements in order to describe shapes of the fatigue cracks and estimate the fatigue lives. Also, development of the fatigue cracks is described by allocating sufficient number of solid elements in the radial direction. Fatigue lives and shapes of the crack resulting from numerical analyses show good agreement with those of the experiment considering ${\pm}100mm$ displacement. In addition, estimation of the fatigue life caused by displacement with different magnitude is conducted. We expect that the model can be applied to understand the relation between fatigue lives and characteristics of pipes or loadings.

  • we analyzed acoustic emission signals obtained from three kinds of brittle materials under compression load by Vickers hardness tester. The results obtained can be summarized as follows; The signal in each material could be divided into three signal based on the properties of load. All specimens were not detected acoustic emission signals in stage II which was load constant region., and were detected in stage I and stage III. Glass was detected high amplitude signals in stage III. $Al_2O_3\;and\;Al_2O_3/Sic$ were detected high amplitude signals in stage I.

  • Feasibility of 3Y-TZP for dental implant abutment was evaluated under the Hertzian cyclic fatigue by examining the extent of the indentation damage and strength degradation. Fatigue test was conducted at contact loads of 500 to 3000 N and up to $10^6$ cycles in exact in vitro environments. At 500 N, no strength degradation and crack generation was observed up to $5\times10^5$ contact cycles. As load rose, the dramatic reduction in strength was observed when the damage transition from ring to radial crack occurred. The. extent of strength degradation was more pronounced in vitro environment probably due to chemical corrosion of artificial saliva through cracks introduced during large numbers of contacts.
