  • In Korea, the game software and service industry is the core cultural industry from it's significant academic and policy. However, recent growth is slowing down because of increasing competition in the industry. In other words, most of the companies growth have reached limit caused by focusing only on short-term revenue-generating management, Therefore, the game software and service companies are needed to emphasize strategic planning of R&D and product development based on the long-term perspective. The purpose of this analysis is to measure the efficiency of management by data envelopment analysis(DEA), using data from 20 companies in the game software and service industry. Input variances are number of labor, total asset, and total investment and output variances are total sale and enterprise value. The results are followings: First, There was a different efficiency between the companies in the game software and service industry. The eight companies was inefficiency. Second, six inefficiency companies were excessive number of the employees and investment assets. third, four companies were CRS, five companies were IRS and eleven companies were DRS. From the result, five companies have to increase the scale of input variance and eleven companies also have to improve efficiency of input variance.

  • Competition policy for growth and activation of market should consider structural nature of relevant industry closely. In this viewpoint, whether domestic MNOs(mobile network operators) are competing while securing the effect of scale economies and maximum production efficiency is an important element when looking for competition policy means of domestic mobile communication market. With this, present study analyzed level of MES (Minimum Efficient Scale) and whether achieving them or not through investigating the relation between the cost per minute and call traffic of domestic MNOs. This analysis is differentiated from existing econometric studies entailing several assumptions by enhancing a reality reflection through directly deducing of cost curve using verified data(cost per minute and call traffic). As a result of analysis, the levels of minimum efficient scale were different from each other between domestic MNOs, and an incumbent MNO(SKT) accomplished minimum efficient scale while entrant MNOs(KT and LGU+) could not yet reach minimum efficient scale level. This result demonstrates a gap exists in production efficiency level among domestic MNOs and implies that the policy to alleviate the gap among operators is required when establishing competitive policy in the future.

  • School appropriate scale refers to the size of the school to minimize students' educational deficits and ensure an appropriate level of students, the number of classes, class size, etc., and maximize educational effects. Difficult set of absolute standards appropriate scale school, contemporary social situations and educational effects, and seek a comprehensive and reasonable direction, considering this is required. School appropriate scale it is preferable to consider the effect of conditions in areas such as education, curriculum, but it is common to set the range in terms of school operational effectiveness, and efficiency of education funding, school environment. So the concept of the appropriate scale including the school's status changes associated with school size, is seeking a new direction is needed so that the school environment, etc. are considered.

  • It is hard environment to get a profit without active invest due to the low interest. In this kind of environment, however, it is also difficult to find good company directly. So private investors is hard to succeed in comprehensive financial environment. Analyzing efficiency is necessary to enhance the competitive power of fund companies. This paper analyze the efficiency of fund company using DEA models. We evaluate the CCR and BCC efficiency and RTS(return to scale) of 33 Korean fund companies. We also suggest the fund company which can be benchmarked based on analyzed information.

  • There has been abundant empirical research undertaken on the technical efficiency of Korean ports. Most studies have focused on the use of parametric and non-parametric techniques to analyse overall technical efficiency. This paper utilizes data for the period 2000-07 to offer a heterogeneous perspective on the overall efficiency of Korean ports. The framework assumes that ports use one input to produce one output; the output and input include port export(import) and regional export(import). This paper also employs panel analysis and heteroscedastic Tobit model to show the effect of the explanatory variables on the port efficiencies. The panel analysis shows that the regional export/total export has negative effect on the export efficiency while the regional import/total import has not any relations with the import efficiency. The heteroskedastic Tobit model shows that both regional export ratio and regional import ratio have negative effects on the efficiency while the gross regional domestic product has not any significant relations with the import efficiency.

  • This study analyzed the relative operational efficiency and impact factors of regional public hospitals to present benchmarking points for enhancing the efficiency of inefficient regional public hospitals. The survey targets collected and utilized the internal resources and management performance data from 34 regional public hospitals in Korea over the past five years, from 2014 to 2018. The final 33 regional public hospitals were surveyed, excluding Jinan Regional Public Hospital, which opened in 2015, the middle of the survey period. The general characteristics and input/output variables were analyzed by frequency analysis and technical statistics analysis, and Data Envelopment Analysis was performed to measure the operational efficiency index and relative comparison. According to the study, there were 11 efficient hospitals (33.3%) and 22 inefficient hospitals (66.7%). Of the 22 inefficient hospitals, 13 (IRS: Increasing Returns to Scale) required scale expansion, and nine (DRS: Decreasing Returns to Scale) required scale reduction or rebalancing. The significance of this study was that an analysis of the relative efficiency and influencing factors presented specific alternatives or directions that could help enhance the efficiency of the growth of regional public hospitals, sustainable management, and expansion of publicness.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze transport efficiency of each of the 17 urban railway lines being operated by national public agencies using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and to seek strategies for improving efficiency of the urban railway system. The study identified the economies of scale derived from these values of efficiency and examined the effects on cost for free ride loss and profit of transport by the fare system as the external factor. At the time, Transport profits are estimated by two production factors such as the number of vehicles and service frequency derived from multiple regression. Finally, the measures to improve the efficiency were presented in terms of profitability in the national urban railway line by applying the values of efficiency derived from DEA to multidimensional scaling (MDS).

  • Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) model is a linear programing based technique for measuring the relative performance of organizational units where the presence of multiple inputs and outputs makes comparison difficult. DEA model allows each unit to adopt a set of weight that shows it in the most favorable light in comparison to the other units. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of the libraries of national university in terms of relative efficiency, measured by the method of DEA. Twenty six libraries of national universities in Korea were used to analyze. The number of employees, size of library, budget, and number of books were used for input data, and the number of visitors, number of loan books, and number of books for lending and borrowing were used for output data. We found out that number of libraries with 100% relative efficiency among 26 libraries from 2005 to 2007 were only 9, 9 and 10, respectively. Moreover most of the libraries need to increase outputs and decrease inputs in order to improve efficiency.

  • In this study, we first measured the Malmquist productivity index by DEA among the Korean ocean carriers. Second, it was intended to present measures to improve productivity by identifying the influence and discriminating power between productivity and the major financial ratios (profitability, financial stability, liquidity, efficiency and value-added productivity). Compared to 2017, there are 11 more shipping carriers with decline in productivity (MPI) than those with an increase in 2018. The increase in productivity is attributed to an increase in the Technology Change Index (TCI) affected by the external environment. There is strong significant correlation between the productivity (MPI) and the management efficiency (CRS). Additionally, the TECI (TECHI) index of the technological efficiency changes from internal factors of the shipping carrier is significantly higher than that of the efficient shipping carrier. This is because of the differences in scale efficiency. The ratio of charter cost/sales is also lower than that of the carriers with high productivity (0.17) and with low productivity (0.21). With 7% of the shipping carrier with MPI>1, only 1% of MPI <1 is found to have a significant impact on its productivity.
