Effects of Oyster Mushroom on Quality of Sulgidduk and Gyeongdan (느타리버섯이 설기떡과 경단의 노화억제에 미치는 영향)

  • To investigate the effects of oyster mushroom on the quality of Sulgidduk and Gyeongdan, freeze-dried mushroom power and mushroom extract were prepared. Dough for Gyeongdan was held for 0~6 hours at room temperature before cooking in order to allow for enzyme reaction. Upon addition of 2~5% mushroom power or 1~2% mushroom extract, the hardness of Sulgidduk decreased while the storage periods could be extended 1~2 days. Avrami rate constant (k) was 0.0111 for 2% power-added rice cake and 0.044 for the control. In Gyeongdan, hardness also decreased by addition of mushroom. Avrami rate constant (k) was 0.0178 for 10% mushroom power-added Gyeongdan and 0.0652 for the control. In a sensory test, Sulgidduk with 1% mushroom powder showed the highest score. Overall, addition of 1% mushroom powder to rice was appropriate for Sulgidduk. For Gyeongdan, addition of 1~2% mushroom powder was appropriate.

MICROVENOUS ALLOGRAFTS IN RABBIT FEMORAL ARTERIES : EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF FREEZE-DRIED ALLOVEINS (동종 정맥 이식을 이용한 가토 대퇴동맥 결손부 수복(동결건조 동종정맥이식의 실험적 연구))

  • 미세수술을 이용한 재건외과 분야에서 빈번히 혈관이식이 요구된다. 이러한 경우 자가정맥이 가장 널리 사용되고 있으며 그의 신뢰성도 인정되어 있다. 그러나 정맥 채취에 따르는 부가적인 수술이 요구되며 혈관 공여부에 또다른 결손을 초래한다. 동결건조동종정맥은 이러한 점을 보완하고 자가정맥을 대체할 수 있는 잠재성이 있다. 이에 동결건조동종정맥의 효율성을 알아보고자 2.5cm 길이의 가토대퇴정맥을 $-65^{\circ}C$, 200 mtorr의 음압으로 동결건조시킨 다음 대퇴동맥 결손부에 동종이식하고(n=24), 신선한 가토대퇴정맥 동종이식군(n=24)과 자가정맥이식군(n=24)을 1주 간격으로 4주간 비교 관찰하였다. 2주 개존율은 동결건조동종정맥 이식군, 100%;동종정맥이식군, 50%; 자가정맥이식군, 100%이었으며 4주 개존율은 동결건조동종정맥이식군, 83.3%;동종정맥이식군, 50%;자가정맥이식군, 100%로서 동결건조처치만으로 동종정맥이식의 생존율을 증가시켰다. 미세임파구세포독성검사에서는 동결건조정맥의 항원성이 상당히 낮아져있음을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 동결건조정맥의 내막세포화가 주사전자현미경 및 광학현미경 소견상 자가정맥보다 지연됨이 관찰되었다. 이러한 결과를 종합해 볼 때 동결건조동종정맥은 아무런 처치를 하지않은 신선 동종정맥보다 현저한 장점이 있었지만, 자가정맥이식을 대신할 수 있는 보다 더 좋은 대체방법이라는 견지에서는 임상 적용이 어려울 것으로 사료되었다.

Anti-tumor Effect of Combined Betacarotene with X-irradiation in the Mouse Fibrosarcoma : Cytotoxicity and Tumor Growth Delay (쥐 섬유육종에서 베타카로틴과 방사선조사 병용의 항종양 효과: 세포독성 및 종양성장 지연에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose :To investigate whether combined beta-carotene with X-Irradiation has more enhanced radition response than X-irradiation or not, we peformed a experiment about in vitro cytotoxlcity of beta-carotene and/or X-irradiation in the fibrosarcoma cells, tumor growth delay of combined beta-caroten with/or X-irradiation in the mouse fibrosarcoma. Materials and Methods : 2$\%$ emulsion of beta-carotene was serially diluted and used. X-Irradiation was given by 6 MeV linear accelerator. The cytotoxicity of beta-carotene in vitro was evaluated from clonogenic assay. To compare the cytotoxiclty between combined beta-carotene with X-irradiation and X-irradiation group, 2 mg/ml of beta-carotene was contacted to fibrosarcoma (FSall) cells for 1 hour before X-irradiation. For the tumor growth delay, single 20 Gy was given to FSall tumor hearing C3H/N mice whic was classified as beta-crotene with X-irradiation group (n=5) and X-irradiation alone group (n=5). 0.2 ml of 20 mg/kg of beta-carotene were i.p. injected to mice 30 minute before X-irradiation in the beta-crotene with X-irradiation group. The tumor growth delay defined as the time which reach to 1,000 mm$^{3}$ of tumor volume. Results : (1) Cytotoxicity in vitro: 1) survival fraction at beta-carotene concentration of 0.002,0.02,0.2 and 2 mg/ml were 0.69$\pm$0.07, 0.59$\pm$0.08, 0.08$\pm$0.008 and 0.02$\pm$0.006, respectively. 2) each survival fraction at 2, 4, 6 and 8 Gy in the 2 mg/ml of beta-carotene + X-irradiation group were 0.13$\pm$0.05, 0.03$\pm$0.005, 0.01 $\pm$0.002 and 0.009$\pm$0.0008, respectively. But each survival fraction at same irradiation dose in the X-irradiation group were 0.66$\pm$0.05, 0.40$\pm$0.04, 0.11$\pm$0.01 and 0.03$\pm$0.006, respectively(p<0.05). (2) The time which reach to 1,000 mm$^{3}$ of tumor volume of beta-carotene + X-irradiation group and X-irradiation alone group were 18, 19 days, respectively(p>0.05) Conclusion : The contact of beta-caroten to Fsall cells showed mild cytotoxicity which 띤as increased according to concentration. The cytotoxicity of combined beta-carotene with X-irradiation more increased than that of X-irradiation, additionally, And there was significant difference of cytotoxicity between two groups. But there were no significant difference of the growth delay of fibrosarcoma between two groups.

  • The repeater for wireless broadband internet (Wibro) system using OFDM demands the short processing delay to eliminate inter-symbol interference resulted from the time delay greater than the guard time. Towards this, the total system delay of repeater is expected to be minimized as possible as it can without distorting signal quality. In general, the FIR-type of filter is commonly deployed as a channelization filter, but due to its large amount of coefficients for producing prerequisite filter response the excessive large time delay occurs. To withstand this problem, the paper proposes the method for designing IIR filter whose response almost identical to that of the original filter. Moreover, in order to linearize the phase response of the designed IIR filter, this paper also introduce the way of designing the all-pass filter to be cascaded works for linearizing phase response of the channelization as well as the de-channelization filter. To achieve the further improvement in linearization of the phase response and reduction of the overall complexity, this paper tries to transform the integrated IIR filter group into the structure in polyphase style. The computer simulation verifies that the integrated IIR filter group designed in this paper reveals the relatively short processing delay without harming the acceptible signal quality.

In Vitro Magnetometric Evaluation far Toxicity to Alverolar Macrophage of Arsenic Compounds (In Vitro 자계(磁界) 측정에 의한 비소화합물의 폐포 Macrophage 독성 평가)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to evaluate the cytotoxicity of gallium arsenide(GaAs), indium phosphide(InP) and indium arsenide(InAs) all of which are used a$ the semiconductor eletments in semiconductor industry. Methods: Cytotoxicity id the alveolar macrophage was evaluated by the measurement of in vitro magnetometry, LDH release assay and histological examination. Results: The relaxation curves by the in vitro magnetometry showed that GaAs has the cytotoxicity for the alveolar macrophage which is more significant in the higher dosages, while this cytotoxicity is not appeared in the groups added with InP or InAs or PBS. In the decay constant for two minutes after magnetization, GaAs-added groups showed a significant decrease with increasing doses, but both InP- and InAs-added groups did not show any significance. The LDH release assay showed a dose-dependent increasing tendency in the GaAs-, InP- and InAs-added groups. In terms of cellular morphological changes, GaAs-added groups revealed such severe cellular damages as prominent destructions in cell membranes and their morphological changes of nucleus, while InP- and InAs-added groups remained intact in intracellular structures, except for cytoplasmic degenerations. Conclusions: It is suggested that GaAs is more influential to cytotoxicity of alveolar macrophages than InP and InAs.

Study on the Texture and Staling of Breads with Addition of Various Hydrocolloids (Hydrocolloids를 첨가한 식빵의 텍스쳐와 노화에 관한 연구)

  • The principal objective of this study was to assess the effects of hydrocolloids(xanthan gum, guar gum, sodium alginate, k-carrageenan, carboxy-methyl cellulose) on the suppression of retrogradation in the bread. The pasting properties of the doughs and the sensory properties were determined in the bread samples, to which xanthan gum, guar gum, sodium alginate, k-carrageenan, and CMC, were added at different ratios(0.2%, 0.6%, 1%). CMC and k-carrageenan with 0.6% level were selected for the further retrogradation studies. Changes in the firmness of the bread samples at room temperature for 15 days were assessed using a texture analyzer, and the type of retrogradation was calculated via the Avrami equation. The thermal properties of the samples were also determined via differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The addition of hydrocolloids was shown to increase the viscosities of the doughs. Setback and breakdown viscosity were reduced significantly via the addition of CMC(0.6%, 1%), xanthan gum(1%), and k-carrageenan(1%). Sensory hardness was significantly increased when 1% hydrocolloids were added. Our textural analysis showed that the addition of CMC reduced the firmness of the bread, whereas k-carrageenan didn't. However, the retrogradation rate was reduced via the addition of k-carrageenan, as was also demonstrated in the results of our DSC analysis.

Design of a 10 GHz Phased-Array Antenna Using CFG True Time-Delays (CFG 실 시간지연 선로를 사용한 10 GHz 위상 배열 안테나의 설계)

  • In this paper, we proposed a continuously variable true time-delay for transmit linear phased-array antenna sing chirped fiber gratings(CFGs) and a tunable laser source. Average group delay-slope of the CFG was treasured to be 177 ps/nm at L-, S-, and X-band. Simulation results show that the maximum gain of the transmit linear phased-array antenna with the beam steering angle of 180$^{\circ}$ is 11.6 dB at 10 GHz.

EFFECT OF LIGHT IRRADIATION MODES ON THE MARGINAL LEAKAGE OF COMPOSITE RESIN RESTORATION (광조사 방식이 복합레진 수복물의 변연누출에 미치는 영향)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of four different light curing modes on the marginal leakage of Class V composite resin restoration. Eighty extracted human premolars were used. Wedge-shaped class Y cavities were prepared on the buccal surface of the tooth with high-speed diamond bur without bevel. The cavities were positioned half of the cavity above and half beyond the cemento-enamel junction. The depth, height, and width of the cavity were 2 mm, 3 mm and 2 mm respectively. The specimens were divided into 4 groups of 20 teeth each. All the specimen cavities were treated with Prime & Bond$^{R}$ NT dental adhesive system (Dentsply DeTrey GmbH, Germany) according to the manufacturer's instructions and cured for 10 seconds except group VI which were cured for 3 seconds. All the cavities were restored with resin composite Spectrum$^{TM}$ TPH A2 (Dentsply DeTrey GmbH, Germany) in a bulk. Resin composites were light-cured under 4 different modes. A regular intensity group (600 mW/${cm}^2$, group I) was irradiated for 30 s, a low intensity group (300 mW/${cm}^2$, group II) for 60 s and a ultra-high intensity group (1930 mW/${cm}^2$, group IV) for 3 s. A pulse-delay group (group III) was irradiated with 400 mW/${cm}^2$ for 2 s followed by 800 mW/${cm}^2$ for 10 s after 5 minutes delay. The Spectrum$^{TM}$ 800 (Dentsply DeTrey GmbH, Germany) light-curing units were used for groups I, II and III and Apollo 95E (DMD, U.S.A.) was used for group IV. The composite resin specimens were finished and polished immediately after light curing except group III which were finished and polished during delaying time. Specimens were stored in a physiologic saline solution at 37$^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. After thermocycling (500$\times$, 5-55$^{\circ}C$), all teeth were covered with nail varnish up to 0.5 mm from the margins of the restorations, immersed in 37$^{\circ}C$, 2% methylene blue solution for 24 hours, and rinsed with tap water for 24 hours. After embedding in clear resin, the specimens were sectioned with a water-cooled diamond saw (Isomet$^{TM}$, Buehler Co., Lake Bluff, IL, U.S.A.) along the longitudinal axis of the tooth so as to pass the center of the restorations. The cut surfaces were examined under a stereomicroscope (SZ-PT Olympus, Japan) at ${\times}$25 magnification, and the images were captured with a CCD camera (GP-KR222, Panasonic, Japan) and stored in a computer with Studio Grabber program. Dye penetration depth at the restoration/dentin and the restoration/enamel interfaces was measured as a rate of the entire depth of the restoration using a software (Scion image, Scion Corp., U.S.A.) The data were analysed statistically using One-way ANOVA and Tukey's method. The results were as follows : 1. Pulse-Delay group did not show any significant difference in dye penetration rate from other groups at enamel and dentin margins (p>0.05) 2. At dentin margin, ultra-high intensity group showed significantly higher dye penetration rate than both regular intensity group and low intensity group (p<0.05). 3. At enamel margin, there were no statistically significant difference among four groups (p>0.05). 4. Dentin margin showed significantly higher dye penetration rate than enamel margin in all groups (p<0.05).

A Study of the Effects and Risks of Baby-walkers on Motor Development in Human Infants (보행기가 유아 운동발달에 주는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose : Baby-walkers are used by many parents because of the convenience they provide in keeping children occupied, quiet, happy, and in stimulating ambulation. But, these devices have more risks than benefits. Therefore, we performed a study to evaluate the effects of baby-walkers on motor development of human infants according to the hours used in a day, total duration(months), and types of injuries associated with the walkers, and to establish effective methods. Methods : 1,045 questionnaires were filled out by parents who had a baby whose aged between 8 months and 15 months that visited local pediatric clinics and medical centers in Chonju and Iksan from May 1, 2002 to July 31, 2002. They were analyzed in a control group that didn't use babywalkers, a low-user group that used baby-walkers less than 2 hours a day and a high-user group that used them more than 2 hours a day. Results : The mean age of the 1,045 babies whose parents responded to the question investigation was $12.6{\pm}2.4$ months. The number of babies who used the baby-walkers were 811(77.6%). Crawling and walking alone were delayed in the high-user group. The parents who knew the side effects of the baby-walkers totalled 392(48.3%). Conclusion : The findings of this study revealed that many parents didn't know the effects of baby-walkers on motor development in their infants and the risks associated with baby-walkers. Therefore, we should educate parents on the risks of baby-walkers and recommend reducing the use of baby-walkers.

Effect of Polyphenol Compounds from Persimmon Leaves (Diospyros kaki folium) on Allergic Contact Dermatitis (감잎(Diospyros kaki folium) Polyphenol 화합물군이 알레르기성 접촉피부염에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was to investigate antiallergic contact hypersensitivity of the polyphenol fractons isolated from persimmon leaves (Diospyros kaki folum). The result of the allergic contact dermatitis is a common skin disease resulting from specific immunologic sensitization due to topically applied allergens. Here the contact hypersensitivity was assayed and obdominal skin morphological changes including mast cells were examined. At contact hypersensitivity assay, less right ear swelling occured in the polyphenol fraction I, II and III groups compared to the control group. The number of mast cells was significantly decreased in the sample groups than the control group.
