The Effect of White Noise on Memory and Attention of Local Community Elderly during Computer-Based Cognitive Rehabilitation Program (컴퓨터 기반 인지재활 프로그램 적용 시 백색소음이 지역사회 노인의 기억력과 주의력에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of white noise on memory and attention of local community elderly during computer-based cognitive rehabilitation program(COMCOG). 30 elderly subjects were recruited and conveniently allocated into experimental and control group. Experimental group subjects carried out COMCOG with white noise. Control group subjects received COMCOG for 30 minutes, 3 times per week for 6 weeks. Neurocognitive funtion test(CNT) were used to evaluate memory and attention during pre and post. The most CNT outcome at post was significantly improved than the pre outcome in the both group(p<.05). And the experimental group showed significantly difference from control group(p<.05). The result of this study show that the COMCOG with white noise may be appropriate for improving memory and attention in elderly. This will enable the application of COMCOG with white noise in cognitive rehabilitation therapy of local elderly and it will help guide the selection of the therapist as one therapeutic basis

  • This study aims at examining the extent to which older people participating in the Seniors' Job Programme do involve in policy-making and implementation processes of the programme. The study is based on qualitative interviews with seven experts among those involved in the policy process in District A of Seoul. They include civil servants of central and local governments and social workers of implementing bodies such as seniors' welfare centres and job centres. The results show that firstly, practically no direct involvement of participants is being made at the policy-making level, due mainly to the traditional top-down approach of policy process in Korea and also to prejudices of public servants concerned on the current senior citizens' capability as contributor to public policy-making. User-involvement is being made, however, at the implementation level: participants are making, although minor, suggestions for improvements of working conditions and they are being listened to by frontline social workers. Support by the implementing institutions turns out to be necessary for this. Lastly, in contrast with the present, many interview participants are expecting a more active participation from the future generation, i.e. the baby-boom generation when they would have retired. The study concludes by calling for enhancement of institutional and capacity-building support for active user involvement in the future.

Comparative Analysis of Youth Unemployment in Korea and Japan: Implications for Korea (한국과 일본의 청년실업 비교분석 및 시사점)

  • This paper analyzes the determining factors in the unemployment rate among young people in their 20s by studying data from 30 OECD countries between 2000 and 2017. It identifies reasons why Korea has a higher youth unemployment rate than Japan, and assesses what implications Japan's youth unemployment measures could have on Korea. The study highlights the variables that have meaningful impacts on youth unemployment. They include the unemployment rate among the working-age population, the percentage of each age bracket in the overall population, the GDP growth rate, the percentage of wage laborers in each age group, the percentage of elderly people, and the percentage of part-time workers. This paper also finds that a decline in the youth population, especially among people in their 20s, does not help to address the issue of youth unemployment. Secondly, this paper explains the additional factors behind Korea's higher youth unemployment rates. One is Korea's disadvantageous employment environment, compared to that in Japan, in terms of wage earnings. Other factors include the existence of fewer decent corporate jobs than in Japan, and wide disparities in wages between large and small corporate jobs. Therefore, while making efforts to resolve long-term and structural problems, it is necessary to actively promote policy measures to solve short-term mismatch problems of youth employment by referring to Japanese policy examples.

Effects of Country-of-Origin Dimensions on Product Evaluations: A Role of Motivational Focus (원산지 개념의 구성 차원이 소비자의 제품평가에 미치는 영향: 동기성향의 효과)

  • Considerably many numbers of studies on country-of-origin(hereafter COO) effects have been presented in international business and marketing areas. Recent studies have been included the effects of COO of manufacture, parts, and design, as well as the effects of brand origin, reflected by the accelerating convergent manufacture circumstances and increasingly competitive environments. Moderating constructs such as knowledge of product category and involvement as individual variables, have been also introduced and researched in various angles. In addition, how the effects of COO occur as processes is also argued in previous studies. This research has attempted to explain business corporation's strategic decisions on choosing a domain of its product manufacturing for several critical reasons, for cost reduction or better image. We displayed two constructs of brand and manufacture in a positive and negative country image group to reconfirm the existence of the effects of COO. Additionally, the effects of respondents' regulatory fit between their motivational focus and the contents of product messages, have been declared. Furthermore the respondents' motivational focus moderates the main effect of COO on product evaluations in a positive 'made-in' combination, while, surprisingly, it does not statistically moderate in a negative, except attitude. Based on the results, implications and suggestions on how to plan and execute more effective marketing strategies regarding COO dimensions, especially COO of manufacture, are separately presented for each situations when it has already been determined and when it is to be.

International Case Study and Strategy Proposal for IUCN Red List of Ecosystem(RLE) Assessment in South Korea (국내 IUCN Red List of Ecosystem(생태계 적색목록) 평가를 위한 국제 사례 연구와 전략 제시)

  • The IUCN Red List of Ecosystems serves as a global standard for assessing and identifying ecosystems at high risk of biodiversity loss, providing scientific evidence necessary for effective ecosystem management and conservation policy formulation. The IUCN Red List of Ecosystems has been designated as a key indicator (A.1) for Goal A of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The assessment of the Red List of Ecosystems discerns signs of ecosystem collapse through specific criteria: reduction in distribution (Criterion A), restricted distribution (Criterion B), environmental degradation (Criterion C), changes in biological interaction (Criterion D), and quantitative estimation of the risk of ecosystem collapse (Criterion E). Since 2014, the IUCN Red List of Ecosystems has been evaluated in over 110 countries, with more than 80% of the assessments conducted in terrestrial and inland water ecosystems, among which tropical and subtropical forests are distributed ecosystems under threat. The assessment criteria are concentrated on spatial signs (Criteria A and B), accounting for 68.8%. There are three main considerations for applying the Red List of Ecosystems assessment domestically: First, it is necessary to compile applicable terrestrial ecosystem types within the country. Second, it must be determined whether the spatial sign assessment among the Red List of Ecosystems categories can be applied to the various small-scale ecosystems found domestically. Lastly, the collection of usable time series data (50 years) for assessment must be considered. Based on these considerations, applying the IUCN Red List of Ecosystems assessment domestically would enable an accurate understanding of the current state of the country's unique ecosystem types, contributing to global efforts in ecosystem conservation and restoration.

  • After participating in the Second Boer War in 1899, the Australian Army participated in world wars such as World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. To overcome the decline in the social recognition of soldiers and the continuous shortage of troops caused by the protracted war, the status and role of female personnel were expanded. The use of female manpower, which started as medical support during the Second Boer War, expanded to combat support missions such as communications, maintenance, driving, secret document management, and radar surveillance during World War II. After the Vietnam War, the Chiefs of Staff of the Australian Army, Navy and Air Force established a committee to expand women's participation in the military, improved service conditions for female personnel and supplemented regulations so that they were treated as soldiers, not women, and reached a turning point in expanding the role of female personnel in the Australian military. As a result, all combat positions, including special forces, were opened to women in 2014, and a plan was established to increase the proportion of women in each service by 2030. Like the Australian military, South Korea is also experiencing a demographic cliff and shortage of troops due to the continuing low birthrate problem.   • The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) began using female manpower from World War II. After making various efforts to secure excellent manpower, the proportion of female manpower has risen to 24%, higher than that of Britain, the United States, Canada and Australia, which have a longer history of female military personnel than New Zealand. This is the result of NZDF efforts to open combat roles to women and allow female personnel to advance to high-ranking military positions such as generals and consular officers. In addition, policy alternatives to address women's realistic concerns such as pregnancy and childbirth, childcare, and vertical organizational culture were presented. In particular, Operation "Respect" was implemented to overcome the problem of not leaving or joining the army due to inappropriate sexual behavior and bullying. The operation respect established the role of the leader, emphasized the support of the victim, and accumulated data of the accident to prevent similar accidents. In addition, through the "Wāhine Toa" program, excellent female manpower could be introduced into the military through customized support considering the military life cycle (attract-recruit-retain-advance) of female personnel. South Korea is also considering expanding the ratio and role of female manpower as one of the ways to overcome the shortage of troops and leap into an advanced science and technology group. Implications were derived from the use of female manpower in the NZDF and the direction in which the Korean military should proceed was considered.

Stress and Infection Prevention Behavior of Nursing College Freshman During the COVID-19 Pandemic (COVID-19 팬데믹 시기에 입학한 간호대학생의 스트레스와 감염예방행위)

  • This study was conducted to confirm the level of stress and infection prevention behavior of nursing college freshman during the COVID-19 pandemic. 119 nursing college freshmen who took remote classes because face-to-face classes were not possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient using SPSS WIN/PC 26.0 statistics program. As a result of this study, the sensitivity to stress was significantly higher when the attitude towards college life was passive (F=5.92, p=.004), and when people perceived themselves as healthy, their stress was significantly lower (t=-2.22, p=.029). In addition, those who responded that they were very uncomfortable due to activity restrictions due to COVID-19 had a significantly higher level of infection prevention behavior than those who responded that they did not feel any discomfort (F=3.51, p=.018). In a pandemic environment such as COVID-19, efforts to promote a positive attitude and awareness of health conditions are needed to reduce the stress of college freshmen and increase infection prevention behavior.

Reviewing the Operation of the Navy Safety Management System and Its Direction (해군 안전관리체계 운영에 대한 검토 및 발전 방향 고찰)

  • Purpose: In order to enhance safety, the Korea Navy is making efforts to introduce a safety and health management system and to develop a risk assessment system, while safety accidents keeps occurring. A development plan was proposed through an inspection of the Safety Management System(SMS). Method: To diagnose the Korea Navy's safety management system, changes in the safety environment, documentation system, and safety and health management system operation were reviewed, points to be improved were found, and improvement directions were derived. Result: There is a need for an SMS standard that can present the Korea Navy's safety policy and safety management direction, and a safety program that provides guidelines for implementing it in a standardized manner. To this end, we were able to confirm the feasibility of linking the requirements of the US Navy's SMS and the international standard ISO 45001 standard together with the Korea Navy's safety management system. Conclusion: The Korea Navy's safety management system needs to clearly present safety policies and standards, and have public confidence and effectiveness in safety work through a standard program that can implement them, and for this, the development of a Navy SMS is necessary.

Factors Affecting Organizational Commitment of Foreign Workers (외국인 근로자의 조직몰입에 영향을 미치는 요인 연구)

  • More than 2 million foreigners were staying in Korea. In this study, the effect of individual and environmental characteristics of foreign workers on organizational commitment was empirically analyzed. A research model for empirical analysis was established. A research model was established independent variables by dividing them into four parts: personal desire, adaptability, organizational life, and social support and setting organizational commitment as dependent variables. Based on this research model, data collection for analysis was conducted in a survey method for foreign workers in Korea. An empirical analysis was conducted using SPSS 24 based on 200 valid sample of the respondents. The results of the empirical analysis were as follows. First, it was found that foreign workers' desire for achievement, language adaptability, relationships with supervisors and colleagues, future vision of jobs, and social support had a significant positive (+) effect on organizational commitment. On the other hand, the significant influence relationship of cultural adaptability was not tested. Second, factors that significantly affect organizational commitment was in the order of social support, relationships with supervisors and colleagues, future vision of jobs, language adaptability, and desire for achievement. Based on these research results, academic implications were presented, and practical implications were presented to increase the organizational commitment of foreign workers.
