Seven species of the order Perciformes collected from coastal waters of Cheju Island, Korea were redescribed as new to Korean fish fauna. They are as follows: Girella melanichthys (Richardson) and Kyposus bigibbus Lacepede of the family Kyphosidae; Chaetodon wiebeli Kaup of Chaetodontidae; Istigobius campbelli (Jordan and Snyder) of Gobiidae; Gymnapogon japonicus Regan of Apogonidae; Parupeneus chrysoplueron (Temminck and Schlegel) of Mullidae; Nemipterus japonicus (Bloch) of Nemipteridae.

남북한이 분단된지 반세기가 다 되었으므로 여러 영역에서 남북한간에 이질화가 일어나는 것은 어쩌면 당연하고 자연스러운 일이라고 생각할 수 있다. 그러나 이러한 이질화가 영역에 따라서는 차후 한민족의 동질성회복이라는 큰 일을 수행하는 과정에서 치명적인 걸림돌이 될 수 있음에 주목해야 할 것이다. 남ㆍ북한산 식물에 대한 국명의 이질화도 이러한 관점에서 매우 주목되어 마땅하다. 그 까닭은 이름의 혼란이란 그 분야의 교육과 학문발전에 중대한 장애요인이 되기 때문이다. 남한의 경우 한국산 식물에 대한 국명의 통일작업은 아직도 부분적으로 이루어진 정도여서 해결해야 할 난제들이 많지만, 북한의 경우 이미 1970~80년대에 국가적인 주요과업의 하나로 북한산 동, 식물에 대한 국명 통일작업이 완료되어 북한산 식물은 여러 가지 새로운 이름들로 불리워지고 있는 것을 볼 수 있다. 필자는 1992년 과학재단의 방문연구를 통하여 헝가리자연사박물관을 방문하고, 그 곳에 소장된 북한산 식물명집을 입수한 바 있어서, 현재 남한에서 그 명명작업이 완료된 분류군을 대상으로 남북한에 함께 출현하는 식물에 국한시켜 식물명의 비교 검토를 실시하였다. 본 보고는 그 중 하등식물의 조류에 속하는 분류군인 녹조식물과 갈조식물에 대하여 남북한의 국명을 학명과 대비한 것이다. 이와 같은 국명의 비교 검토는 차후 남북한의 식물명 통일작업을 위한 기초자료가 될 것으로 기대한다.

As part of taxonomic studies on Korean Chironmidae, the adult midges collected in mostly Asan-gun area of Chungchong-namdo were slide-mounted for permanent preparation and 21 species were identified , of which two species (Polypedilum masudai and Pentapedilum uncinatum) are the first findings in Korea and three species are found to be new. They are named Pentapedilum pseudotritum, n.sp. Cladotanytarsus sinjongensis, n. sp. and Rheotanytarsus dogoensis, n.sp. As a result , the Korean fauna of chironomidae consists of 36 species, 22 genera.

A checklist of snake eels (Ophichthidae) from Korea is presented including information, such as synonyms, distribution, occurrence records and key to species of 7 genera and 14 species. Also, we suggest change of the Korean names for the snake eels (Ophichthidae) "Ba-da-baem-gwa" to "Ba-da-baem-jang-eo-gwa", and it's members, because Korean names of snake eels (Ophichthidae) is similar to those of sea snake (Hydridae).

A taxonomic study of the family Zoarcidae was conducted using fish collections deposited in the Department of Biology, Chonbuk National University, Jeonju, Korea and the East Sea Fisheries Research Institute, Korea. Among these collections, the following four species of the genus Lycodes are recognized as the first records for Korea; L. sadoensis, L. japonicus, L. pectoralis, and L. sigmatoides. These species are here redescribed and figured, with their distributions and a provisional key to five genera and eleven species of the family Zoarcidae from Korea.

There are 18,638 insect species recorded in Korea, representing 35.4% of Korean Biodiversity (52,628). In this study, we classified Korean common name into 11 categories (color, size, shape, plant, location, ecology, foreign language, personal name, native, physiology, positive/negative) and assigned every species into each categories and researched the meaning of Korean common names. We conducted further analysis on 506 cases of hate speech (disability, racial·regional·appearance discriminations). Also we analyzed 508 cases of Japanese expressions (person's name, place name, Japanese language), and proposed alternative words in case of inappropriate usages.

Based on the reviewing the present specimens and published data, taxonomic revision about the Korean names and distributional ranges of the rajid fishes (Rajidae) in Korea was conducted. As a result, the family Rajidae from Korea was classified into 4 genera encompassing 11 species, Bathyraja bergi, B. isotrachys, Dipturus kwangtungensis, D. macrocauda, D. tengu, Okamejei acutispina, O. boesemani, O. kenojei, O. meerderooortii, Raja koreana and R. pulchra. Proposed new Korean names are "Salhongeo-sok" for the genus Dipturus and the "Hongeo-sok" for the genus Okamejei, because those are elevated from subgeneric to generic rank recently. In particular, the new korean names are needed to be given that, the genus Raja is "Chamhongeo-sok" and R. pulchra is "Chamhongeo". The occurrence of Bathyraja bergi is recognized as in the Korean waters according to this revision. The check list and the map of geographic distributions of 11 species of Rajidae from Korea are presented.

Four specimens of Megalaspis cordyla(Linnaeus) belonging to the family Carangidae and three specimens of Champsodon snyderi Franz belonging to the family Champsodontidae were collected for the first time from Nam-hae and Pusan, Korea. Megalaspis cordyla is similar to other genera, but differs in some morphological charac-ters : the presence of finlets, the beginning portion and shape of scutes, and the length of pec-toral fin. A new Korean name "Ko-d$\breve{u}$ng-ka-ra-ji" is proposed for the M. cordyla. Champsodon snyderi is differs from C. capensis in the number of pectoral fins and the pres-ence of scale on cheek ; from C. longipinnis in having a pale spinous dorsal fin ; from C. guen-theri and C. machaeratus in having 11 lower gill rakers, 19 soft dorsal fin rays. A new Korean name "Ak-$\hat{o}$-chi" is proposed for the C. snyderi.
