A new species of the genus Dolichovespula Rohwer, 1916, Dolichovespula kuami, is described with its diagnostic characteristics and figures from Korea.

In this article I try to investigate fifteen place names presented in the area of Baekdu mountain and Duman river of "Daedongnyeojido". The aims of the investigation are to clear Jeongho Kim's understanding on the national boundary implicated in the map, to search the etymology of the place names, and to analyze the place names miswritten. Through the investigation it will be suggested that the map presents the idea of 'Tomun river = Duman river = Bungye river', and recognizes 'Abrok river-Jeonggyebi-Duman river' as the landmarks of the boundary between Joseon(Korea) and Qing(China). Through the etymological analysis of the place names it will be suggested that some place names(Bundonggang, Geongatoi, Sihuasan, Geolodong and Daedong) originated from Nuzhen(Manchurian), the other place names(Gulsan and Guambong) originated from Korean. The location of the place names will be suggested also.

Kim, Kyung Jang(1597~1653) as a disciple of Jang Hyun Gwang was very famous for his virtuous conduct. But his collection of works has been published recently. There has never been any studies about his thoughts, learning and life. Therefore this study has a target to arrange the process of his life and events, and to introduce outlines of his learning. The items of this study will be as follows: The first category will be his lineage, his life, and writings. The second category will be his learning. This category has two lower categories. The first will be focused on his intention to morally accomplished self by the method of self cultivation and practise of Confucian proprieties. The second will be focused on his learning of the Change and of the Confucian proprieties. And giving attention to his 6 diagrams that have symbolized principles of the Change, this paper tries to compare these to the other scholars ones and so will explane the features of his diagrams. The most important thing in this paper is to define his learning as so called in the rhetoric of Confucianism Wi-gi-ji-hak(爲己之學), which means self organization of one's moral personality by the method of self cultivation and to distinguish the steps of his learning developed. This method has never been applied, but this is expected to become a effective method for explanation of the truth of the Confucian scholar's world of learning.

Pyrosequencing of 16S rDNA tags was used to obtain the bacterial diversity and community structure in the uncultured seawaters as well as in the cultured seawaters, which were collected from the 7 ports (Cheonbu, Hyunpo, Taeha, Namyang, Sadong, Dodong, and Jeodong) and 1 seashore (Guam) around the Ulleng island, Korea. Alphaproteobacteria were the most abundant group in the clean seawaters such as seawaters of Taeha and Sadong ports. Gammaproteobacteria proportion increased depending upon the wastewater amounts mixed with the seawaters such as seawaters of Namyang, Dodong, and Jeodong ports. The genuses of Alteromonas (from samples of Cheonbu, Taeha, Guam, Namyang, Sadong), Shewanella (from sample of Jeodong), and Vibrio (from samples of Hyunpo and Dodong) were dominant group in each of the cultured seawaters incubated in marine broth (Difoco). The results suggest that the incoming wastewaters to the port seawaters contribute to the dynamic change of the marine bacterial community around the Ulleng island.

We examined the expression of the heat shock proteins (HSPs) and glucose-regulated proteins (GRPs) during phorbol 1 2-myristate 1 3-acetate (PMA)-induced megakaryocytic differentiation of human er"'throleukemia K562 cells. PMA-treated K562 cells showed a cell growth arrest and alteration in morphology and patterns of gpllIa and c-myc expression, characteristic of megakaryocytic differentiation. During the megakaryocytic differentiation, HSP9OA, HSP9OB, and HSP28 mRNA and protein levels markedly decreased, while GRP78/B and GRP94 mRNA levels were enhanced. On the other hand, HSP7OA and HSP7OB mRNA levels were reduced, but HSP7O protein levels were not changed by PMA treatment. These results suggest specific roles for the HSPs and GRPs in K562 cell proliferation and megakaryocic differentiation.tion.

The 42 patients with carcinoma of the cervix, performed intracavitary radiotherapy, were analysed the doses at points A and B comparing to the mghr prescription. The doses at points A and B were calculated by PC-12 computer planning system. Correlation coefficienty between doses at points A and B and the mghr prescription are 0.82 (p<0.001) and 0.90 (p<0.001) respectively. The slope of the point A line is 0.70 and the slope of the point B is 0.21. Therefore, the dose at point A is approximately 3/4 the mghr prescription and the dose at point B is approximately 1/4 the mghr precription.

The Grave encapsulated by lime soil mixture were excavated with clothing and hemp shoes from the Choseon Dynasty in Gooam, Sacheon. Hemp shoes have wood in the center and their surroundings were made of complex materials including herbaceous ones but the front part was lost or became very fragile. We analyzed the hemp shoes and pre-test of consolidant for conservation treatment of hemp shoes. As a result of analyzing, three kinds of plants were identified. For hemp shoes, Oryza spp, hemp, and one kind of dicotyledones were used and it was analyzed that fabrics attached to the back of Dogaengi was cotton. Conservation methods for pre-test of consolidant, Polyethylene Glycol, Paraloid-B72, Dammar gum, Methyl Cellulose and Silicone resin was selected. The solution was sprayed twice in a 24-hour duration. Properties of consolidant was measured; color difference, glossiness difference, folding streangth and tensile streangth. By comparing the results, PEG was confirmed to the most suitable as consolidant. For the conservation treatment, cleaning and strengthening was conducted. For strengthening treatment, PEG 4000 was selected given that the shoes were made of complex materials. The PEG impregnation method was applied with the PEG 4000 concentration gradually changing from 5% to 80% for reinforcement. Then humidity- controlled drying in order to avoid any rapid environment change.

In order to verify the accuracy of wave measurement of the wave instrumentation system using X-band navigation radar, The validity of the results was obtained by analyzing the significant wave height around Ulleungdo. Especially, The correlations between the radar, wave height buoy and marine buoy for wave measurements were analyzed in season.

This study was to summarize in Nursing perspective nursing missionary activities of Elizabeth J. Shepping, R, N(1880~1934), a Southern Presbyterian nursing missionary and explore Korean women's lives and Korean nursing history during the Japanese Colonial Period. Shepping committed herself to nursing activities, providing care to the lepers and patients mainly in Gwangju Jejung Hospital, Gunsan Guam Jesus Hospital, and Severnce Hospital, as well as engaging in nursing activities for disease prevention in local communities. She put much effort in educating women and nurses to help recover women's human rights, simultaneously spreading gospel for salvation. She founded the Chosun Nursing Association to help Korean community oppressed under Japanese colonial. Shepping's life based on her motto,"Not success, but service,"was holistic nursing missionary work.
