The study, the first of its kind, surveyed a target audience, purchasing group, and housewives in their quest to determine purchasing decisions and effective branding strategy planning for the infantile obesity market. Another key component of the study was to focus on the key direct and/or indirect distribution channels for the subject market. Recently, obesity has emerged as a major social concern; some studies show that the onslaught of an adverse eating culture in Korea emanates from the prevalence of fast-food dining establishments. Obesity among children leads to adult obesity, especially if the young people's parents are overweight; notably, if either one or both of the parents are obese, the percentage of young people eventually being obese is approximately 80 to 85 percent. Although comparison shopping agent-based web sites and consumers' online community sites support the selection process, they have limitations when considering diverse and dynamic purchase conditions as a whole, which is the cause of additional consumer effort for optimal supplier selection. This study provides a decision support model with a sensitivity analysis for selecting an optimal supplier considering purchase conditions as a whole. It screens suppliers with filtering factors and provides optimal suppliers through a sensitivity analysis from a Quadratic Programming model. We implemented a prototype system and showed that it could be an effective decision support system for selecting the optimal supplier in the online shopping environment.

  • With the emergence of indirect procurement, it has become a global trend for companies to outsource their maintenance, repair, and operating (MRO) supplies to procurement service providers (PSPs). Due to the variety of MRO items, evaluation of numerous suppliers in various industries is a particularly complex task for PSPs. Due to this complexity, many PSPs still evaluate and select suppliers based on the sourcing managers' subjective knowledge. Through the case of adopting a supplier evaluation system, this research is to find the managerial issues organizations should consider when they transform sourcing managers' knowledge into the system. We interpret the issues based on the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework. This case conclusively shows the importance of positive feedback loop between the users and the information system for the performance improvement of the system.
